Review: I’d seen this book flying around the book blogosphere daily after the release of it’s beautiful cover a while ago and knew instantly that it was something I’d love to read. The cover is stunning and instantly made me want to find out what was within it’s pages and I was lucky enough to be sent a copy, courtesy of NetGalley.
Don’t Turn Around is a Crime/Paranormal novel which revolves around D.C Jennifer Knight as she begins to investigate mysterious murders which have started in her quiet town. Then she realises that the murders are appearing to be very similar to ones her late mother helped convict over twenty years-ago and she believes a copy-cat killer is now on the loose. But Jennifer can’t shake her paranormal instincts that we may not be looking for a simple killer after all and that something far more sinister might be at play.
You rarely read novels which combine crime and paranormal elements; and not just creepy houses and strange goings-on but genuine malevolent spirits and forces. Whether you believe in this sort of thing or not, you can’t deny that it makes for a cracking story. From chapter 1, this story came alive right before my eyes. I had a brilliant sense of what Jennifer looked and acted like and although she probably could have benefited from a bit more “depth” and seemed a bit “all over the place” at times – she was a strong character that I look forward to reading more of.
The story itself was fascinating; slightly slow paced at times and a bit jumpy from scene to scene but an extremely clever plot-line with a final twist that I would never have seen coming even if it had slapped me in the face. I love the different points of views; Jennifer and Frank and lastly Jennifer’s mother and loved how it all came together and started to make sense. But not until the very last minute, oh no, Caroline doesn’t spoon feed you clues and hints but rather hits you like an oncoming truck with the almighty plot-twist at the end.
A brilliant novel with so much potential surrounding it; I love the elements that Caroline brings together in this book because it’s so unlike any Crime novel I’ve read before – Crime with a twist, if you will! I sense Caroline will be an extremely prominent figure in Crime writing in the near future.

Oh no, that synopsis already suggests a brilliant plot twist. The premise reminds me a little of a goosebumps book I read ten years ago about two twins (?) that faked the death of one of them so they could committ murder under the identity of the presumably dead one. Anyways, this seems like a nice thrilling read!
