My Top 5 Favourite PlayStation 1 Games

As technology goes, I’m a bit of a technophobe. I don’t upgrade my phone unless I really really need to, I miss MySpace and I never ever upgraded from my PlayStation 1. I’d thought about it many times and only dreamed about the graphics of a PlayStation 2 but I couldn’t do it. My PlayStation 1 games were far too precious and hold too many childhood memories to even contemplate getting rid of so even to this day, I still play my PlayStation 1 games and I still love them as much as I always did. The nostalgia I feel when I hear the start up screen is unfathomable. So for all you old skool kids out there, here are my top 5 PlayStation 1 games!

ps1

5. Crash Bandicoot

Specifically the first one, where you have to work your way around the levels of the islands and defeat a couple of bosses along the way. I loved Crash, as did so many other people. It was infuriating as crap at times like seriously, how did a tortoise just kill me? But so satisfying. Especially the ‘boloboga!’ noise his mask makes.

4. 40 Winks

I have come across very few people who have even heard of this game but it was one of my favourites growing up. I also found it quite difficult and actually only completed it once at like the age of 15. You play as either Ruff or Tumble and work your way through your nightmares and different worlds to save the winks.

3. Harry Potter and the Philosopher Stone

I think one of the things I love most about this game is how bad the graphics are and how completely unlike the film it actually is. But damn, you just can’t beat it. I love exploring the castle and collecting all those stupid ass beans for Fred and George. Oh and not to mention the infuriating mine cart challenge at Gringotts, arghhhh!

2. Disney’s Tarzan

This was one of the very first ever PlayStation games I had. In actual fact, I think it may have come with my PlayStation when it was bought so I was very young when I first played this and I remember playing it with my dad and we would do one level each. I still can’t complete this game 100% though!

1. Spyro 2: Gateway to Glimmer

You would be shocked to know how many times I’ve completed this game. Not just this one though, all 3 Spyro games for PS1 but Gateway to Glimmer will always been top of the pack. I love everything about Spyro, the gems, the levels, the annoying little challenges and always having to complete it 100%. This game requires absolutely 0 effort from me now as I know where every tiny little thing is but it doesn’t take away any enjoyment at all. Playing it sends me right back to being young and carefree and I can get so lost in this game.

There we have it, my top 5 PlayStation 1 games! Are you an old skool kid like me? Do you still play any of these old games? What were your favourites? I’d love to know!

  1. Just passing through the latest feed on WordPress when I see Crash Bandicoot!!! I was telling the husband a few weeks ago that I would LOVE to play this game as it was my favourite PS1 game! I wonder if it is available on the latest PS consoles, I haven’t seen it though. Great post, got me looking back at my childhood lol

    Nihaad – Read & Seek

  2. Spyro 2 is probably my favourite game of all time! I’m also a huge fan of Spyro 3 and the Crash Bandicoot games too! They just never stop being fun no matter how many times you play through them. You also absolutely made the right decision to stick with the Playstation, the PS2 versions were noway near as good! x

  3. I saw the first picture and went like ‘THIS IS MY CHILDHOOD IN A PICTURE’ haha 😛 Until I noticed 40 Winks, I haven’t heard of that one either 😦 But Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Crash Bandicoot and Spyro were such a big part of my childhood haha ❤

  4. OH HOW I MISS CRASH BANDICOOT!! Why won’t they bring it out on the recent play stations!!!!! I still have my original PS1 at my parents house and every Christmassy time when the whole families down there we pull it out and give it a play! I used to love Spyro, and I remember dad staying up and finishing the first HP game one night after the parents sent us to bed and then being furious at him for playing our game!! Oh I love this post! NOSTALGIA!

    • Hahah Awww! Imagine if they remade all these games on new consoles?? I don’t think it’d be the same though – the terrible graphics were all a part of it I think! My dad used to play all my games as well haha! The Harry Potter games were insanely frustrating I can’t blame him for staying up all night trying to finish it hahaha! xx

      • I love that one of the best games of all time was Crash Bandicoot and literally the entire goal was just to jump on boxes hahah! No way would that even sell these days.

  5. Hahahaha! This brought me back!!

I wasn’t into games until I was in the hospital for my surgeries for almost four months. This was 2002 WAYY before Wii and XBOX (even though they did have the earlier models) in each section the older kids would play different PS2 games. We were hooked to Donkey Kong like crazy! I use to wake up early like 6am to play before the boys if we didn’t have school that morning! Hehehe! In our big play room, there was a small game of Super Mario Bros and I was hooked to that too. It hardly got used before I got there and actually broke down after I went home.

When I got home, it was a few days after my birthday so my parents bought my own PS2 console and I had Crash (loved that game!), Tarzan, and some card game. A few months after that my dad even got himself a golfing game to play! I actually used for a number of years, but once we got our computer & internet I kinda lost interest in it. We still have it, but I bet all of our games are no good. Crash broke a year before I stopped playing officially. I miss it 😦

  6. My childhood! I did a post on my most loved PlayStation games from my childhood last month, and because I got so nostalgic, I downloaded an emulator onto my phone so I can play Spyro and Crash Bandicoot on the go! 🙂
