As you probably know, I’m a huge animal lover. I’m also a huge documentary lover and my absolute favourite documentaries to watch are those that are about animals and more often than not, it doesn’t matter what mood I’m in, I can always find myself getting lost in the animal kingdom. I’ve put together a little list of some of my favourite animal documentaries – those perfect for all you animal lovers!

Documentaries for Animal Lovers

The Supervet: I actually refused to watch this for a very long time, despite my mum trying to force me because I thought it would just make me too sad and I’d spend hours crying and whilst there are undoubtedly some extremely sad moments, more often than not, there’s a good result and a happy ending. I’ve been hooked on The Supervet since I started watching at the beginning of the year and have backtracked and watched all the episodes on All 4. It’s an incredibly inspiring series and makes you appreciate how far we have come in science and technology to bring animals procedures that aren’t even done on humans yet. Plus, Noel ain’t too bad on the eye either.

Dogs: Their Secret Lives: Ever wondered what your dog gets up to when you’re not at home? Or how they react to your absence? This series covers a whole bunch of different topics about dogs, including strange medical mysteries, doggie escape artists and why our dogs demonstrate certain behaviours. For anyone who has a dog and is interested in the psychological and physiological side of their being, I’d highly recommend this series!

Paul O’Grady’s Animal Orphans: This series is both heart-breaking and uplifting all at once. In the current series, Paul O’Grady (who is one of my favourite people like, ever!) is in Borneo at centres that help orphaned animals rehabilitate and hopefully get sent back into the wild. From a Sun Bear to a baby Orang-utan to baby turtles, Paul follows the work that these people do and it is incredible. I am in complete admiration of all the work put in for these animals, due to other human’s carelessness and own need and greed. A lot of these animals are orphaned due to forest fires which are becoming more and more common to make room for agriculture.

Paul O’Grady: For the Love of Dogs: I told you Paul O’Grady was one of my favourite people! I adore pretty much all his documentaries and For the Love of Dogs will always be one of my favourites. Paul goes to Battersea Cats and Dogs home to follow the life of some of the dogs up for adoption and the work that goes into the rehoming centre. Again, it can be incredibly heart-breaking to hear some of these dog’s tragic stories but it’s also an important series.

Here are my own recommendations. Do you have any of your own? What are your favourite type of documentaries or factual series to watch? Let me know.
