Things Everyone Who Plays ‘The Sims’ Will Understand

I love The Sims. I’ve played it since the good ol’ days of The Sims 1 and even now at the ripe old age of 23, I still play it. I’ve been through more families than I can remember (or care to admit). Made aliens, plant people, vampires, werewolves and fairies. Made my Sims have all the jobs under the sun and been on real emotional rollercoasters with them (okay… too far). And I know a lot of you would have to. So here are 15 things everyone who has played The Sims will definitely understand!

The Sims

  1. Looking at the clock and realising you’ve been sitting in the same position for approximately 84 hours
  2. Wondering why you never went into interior design after college. Have you seen my Sims bathroom?!
  3. Is it wrong to fancy a Sim? Oh God, I totally fancy my Sim
  4. Realising that your Sims life is a gajillion times more exciting than your own. Why can’t I be abducted by aliens, be friends with the Grim Reaper and get 12 promotions in 2 weeks?
  5. Wondering if learning to play chess will get you a pay rise and/or a job as an astronaut
  6. Making the perfect family of 5 then realising you can’t control them all
  7. Swimming pool or room without a door? What’s more ethical? (ya’ll know what I mean you sick buggers)
  8. If I put a plate in front of my bedroom door then maybe I won’t have to go to school/work either
  10. Spending 12 hours building the most perfect house then not playing again for another 7 months
  11. Crying hysterically when your Sims pet dies
  12. Spending longer making your pet than your Sim
  13. Literally praying for a real-life motherload
  14. Or a real-life Testing CheatsEnabled true. Oh how I wish I could just delete that person from my life
  15. Feeling proper nostalgic for The Sims 1. It was so bad but so so so good.

Which of these do you agree with? Anything you would add to this list? Benzi chibna looble bazebni gweb! (Nothing is impossible if you believe in Simish)

  3. One time my sim’s husband was out grilling hot dogs when a gigantic asteroid came down and smashed into him. My sim somehow fit that thing in her pocket and still carries it around. Also when I moved to a new house all the babies (My sim had twins 2x I think) were sitting out on the lawn like the movers couldn’t be bothered to carry them inside Lol. This game is seriously so addicting! It’s so hard to stop

    1. Hahahahaha! Oh I do love The Sims!

  5. Oh my gosh, I love The Sims! I really do get nostalgic for The Sims 1, too. I wish I could play it again. It was shockingly bad compared to The Sims 4, but I spent so many hours on it. I thought it was the best thing ever!! Haha. I haven’t played TS4 in so long, I feel a binge play coming on! x

    1. It was so shockingly bad wasn’t it? But it was SO GOOD! The expansion packs were amazing weren’t they? xx

100% to all of these! I haven’t played it in so long, and don’t have a PC anymore (moved over to Mac) so can’t play The Sims 3, which is my ultimate favourite. Can’t say I’m a fan of the Sims 4 at all, so I’m back on The Sims 2!

    1. I wasn’t a sims 4 fan either it just didn’t click for some reason! Sims 2 is amazing though! x

  7. Stacey says:

Yes, yes, yes!!! To all of these. To respond to a few:
    1. I would be terrified to add up the amount of time I spend in SIM world. It’s like The Twilight Zone.
    4. I live vicariously through my sims. Plus, I’m a damn sight more house-proud than I am in real life!
    7. Swimming pool is faster. Room without a door is brutal and drawn out. And yes, I’ve tried both.
    11. When my real cat died I couldn’t play Sims for months as I had a sim copy and couldn’t bear the thought he might die there too!
    13. I really do need a real-life cheat code. Or maybe aspiration points?
I absolutely love meeting adults who still play Sims (or any computer games). It’s my guilty pleasure!! I’m on Sims 3 at the moment as I haven’t bought Sims 4 yet but my fave ever game is probably The Sims Makin’ Magic! Good times.

  8. I miss my Sims. Really have to get them back. lol I totally loved the Sims, there was one thing not on the list. Not giving your Sims any cooking points and then making them cook. I`m wicked I know.

  9. LOVE THIS POST!!! Me and one my friends in college went on a total Sims binge where we didn’t leave the apartment for DAYS upon DAYS. She would play on her laptop right next to me on my desktop. And we would spend more time downloading skins and wallpapers than we would playing sometimes ๐Ÿ™‚ I really need to get the newest Sims. I think I have Sims 3 somewhere, but I want to see what the new one is like.

I’m also a fan of building walls around people. Hey some of them are just better off that way ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. Rhio says:

Ive always loved the sims, I still play it! I kind of miss Sims 3 though now I’m playing Sims 4.
I feel the career one the most. Gosh, I wish I could just spanner my TV for a few hours and beat myself at chess to become an astronaut.
My new favourite thing in Sims 4 is to make celebrities and have my Sim marry them. Taking my celebrity crushes WAY too far. It’s so great. Haha.

  11. The Sims is such a time-stealer. it’s so crazy how you can accidentally waste 4 hours on this stuff. Even more. Such an addicting game.

  12. I still miss the story mode that we got with Sims 1 and Bustin’ Out, but I also adore Sims 4. I don’t think I ever actually beat Sims 1, which was the first video game I ever bought. Maybe I should get on that when I get my Gamecube back from my parents’ house.
Also, in Sims 4 you can actually die from embarrassment. There are days when I wish that was possible.

    1. I don’t think anything will beat Sims 1 will it? Did you ever have Superstar? It was SO DIFFICULT to ever become famous! I am so tempted to buy a few Sims 1 games from eBay and play them again, for old times sake. Can you really die of embarrassment?! I only got as far as building a house on Sims 4 and really didn’t like it!

      1. I had a Sim in 4 wet herself (while standing next to the toilet…) and die instantly. It was hilarious. Building a house was really difficult on Sims 4 but it gets better!! I never had Superstar, but I still love Sims 1.

  13. Pool, room or attempting to cook grilled cheese. Sometimes I let the dude burn. I’m not proud.
And oh for a real life motherload.

    1. You monster! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  14. I loved the original sim city so when the sims first came out, I pounced on it and fell in love. Since then I have bought all of them up to Sims 4 and I spent many happy hours building luxury houses, having woohoo in hot tubs and naming sims after my man crushes but the I had kids and my looking for ores, dancing with strange men at discos and learning new recipes went out the window. On a happier note, my eldest has started playing The Sims on her Kindle, I may have to borrow it!

    1. Don’t let having kids stop you from playing The Sims! Haha ๐Ÿ˜‚ I never really played Sim City!

  15. Man, why didn’t I ever play it?! Always wanted to but for some reason, I didn’t. ๐Ÿ™

    1. Whaaaaaat! Madness! Buy it immediately!

  16. Pool. Always the pool.

    1. Good choice ๐Ÿ˜‰

  17. meditorlibre says:

Pretty much all of these! My ambition is to one day recreate downton abbey in the sims ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Wow! You must send me a picture of you ever do! I’ve made my own house but that’s about it!

  19. Haha I love this! Number 10 is me all over. I always do that ๐Ÿ˜‚

    1. Haha building houses is so addictive right? It’s so exhausting too that you just don’t have the energy to play afterwards!

      1. I’m building a Sims house tonight because you proper got me in the mood for it haha.

  20. I haven’t actually played the sims yet, and I really want to. Which sims game should I start with?

    1. Oh well it depends what computer you have – as it’s such a big game and takes up a hella lot of room. If your computer or laptop is decent then I’d recommend The Sims 3. I wasn’t a fan of The Sims 4, unfortunately. BUT The Sims 2 you can get more cheats.

      1. Okay I will try sims 2 if I have the chance!
