Why I Want to *Attempt* Blogtober

October = National Blogging Month

So, bloggers all around the globe take part in ‘Blogtober’ where the idea is to post every day for the month of October. And this year, I wanna have a go. I’ve been umming and ahhing for weeks about this and been a bit apprehensive to start my blogtober posts because in my mind, once I start, that’s it, I’m committed. And once I’m committed, I need to complete the challenge because if I don’t, I will feel like a big fat failure. But I’ve done it now, I’ve started – so let’s see how this goes shall we? Welcome to my first blogtober post and I’m talking about my reasons for wanting to attempt this terrifying challenge.

I want to try something new

I’ve never taken part in blogtober before. Or any official blogging challenge really. Even if I have and forgotten, chances are I gave up halfway through because I’m one of those people that think everything is a wicked idea at the time, start something then realise actually, I can’t be bothered. This may go the same way, we will see.

I want to challenge myself

To carry on from the point above, yes I am one of those people that starts every challenge going and gives up halfway through but the point is, I do like to challenge myself. This will be a big challenge, one I hope I can complete because if I do, it’ll feel like such a great achievement by the end of it.

It may encourage me to explore different topics

With so many days to fill, I obviously can’t keep talking about the same things. I’m hoping that blogtober may encourage me to open up and write posts about things I may not necessarily have thought about writing before – even if it’s merely due to the fact that I need a day to fill. I’d love to start more discussions on my blog, even about more personal topics.

It may encourage more communication with the blogging community

By doing this challenge, I’m hoping to find many other bloggers – ones I already know and ones I don’t – who are also taking part in blogtober. In fact, I’ve already briefly spoke to one who was in the same boat as me and unsure about whether to take part or not. I hope I can find lots of new bloggers to follow and lots of amazing new posts to read!

Are you taking part in blogtober this year? Have you taken part before? How did you find it? Are there any specific posts you’d like to see from me in the future? Lemme know in the comments!

  1. Good luck to you, I could never do this, I struggle posting as it is haha! As for ideas for posts . . . what about that F1 one we were going to do? x

  2. I didn’t even know Blogtober was a thing! I got drawn in by your Mental Health Awareness Week posts and now I’m excited about this! Thanks!

  3. Hi! I’m attempting BLOGTOBER as well! You seem like an established blogger if you don’t mind, I wanted to ask you some questions:

Before I do, I’d like to say this is a great post, as this is exactly why I’m attempting as I have some commitment issues and love challenging my weaknesses. I even share my posts on my social media sites for my family and friends to see so I feel obligated to post, I feel horrible if I don’t because they love my content.
    Any who,

I love the thumbnail you used! Did you make it yourself and if so how?? I’ve been sprucing up my page and quality of my content since the summer time and want to make it more personal.

Also, tying in what you said about communicating with the community, I fee like I’m in a bubble! How can I find other bloggers to reach out to other than the discover page if possible? Again, thank you so much for this beautiful post as I think I will dedicate today’s post to your post! Good luck to you!

    1. Hiya ๐Ÿ™‚ When you say thumbnail do you mean the photo in this post with “Why I Want to Attempt Blogtober” on it?
And in answer to question number 2, it takes time but get on Twitter, get interacting, follow other blogs, comment and chat. Check out my blogtober post on Making the Most of Twitter for more advice there!

      1. Yes lol sorry I picked it up after watching videos on how to be a youTuber (the picture thats used to attract everyone to the post).

        And I sure will!

  4. Oh good luck Jenny that’s quite a challenge. I’d love to join in but can’t really commit at the moment. Started a new job and getting my book ready for publication! Perhaps you could do some Halloween themed posts, or join a Halloween readathon, and blog about it? I did that last year and enjoyed it so much. ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Nice idea. Didn’t realise blogtober did exist until this year (after some Googling from following vlogtober for a couple of years.

Might try it myself as motivation to get my blogs up and going.

Best of luck to you and hope you stick at it each day!

  6. First of all, good luck! I’m looking forward to read your posts, no matter how many of them you’ll actually post.
As for me, I just finally made a decision with myself to post four times per week (obligatory posts) and then add some extra if I have to or can’t post them in that 4 posts schedule (like today my Monthly wrap up will be up).
But I decided to participate in a way bc I decided that every day in October, if possible, I’ll go blog hoping. I was bad this whole summer and September, so it’s time for me to make up for that in a way, but I also missed reading blogs.
I won’t only read and comment back on posts of bloggers who visited me, but will also visit blogs I follow and everyday I’ll try to find new ones.
We’ll see how my plan’s gonna work but I hope it will work just fine. ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. I haven’t done Blogtober but I did BEDM (Blog Every Day in May) and I enjoyed it! I struggled towards the end but I completed it and it felt great. My views and engagement were really high during the month too which was a bonus!

    1. That’s brilliant! Well done ๐Ÿ™‚ I can imagine it gets more difficult as the month goes on – I’ve got a note on my phone of post ideas so I can write one up every day without thinking about it! xo

  8. I’ve never heard of Blogtober until now. If I’m still blogging next October, then possibly I’ll give it a chance after I’ve had some time to wrap my head around the idea and maybe prepare a little better. Good luck on your challenge!

    1. Good idea! ๐Ÿ™‚ I don’t think I would have been able to do it had I decided today haha… hats off to those who have! Thank you ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope you enjoy my posts throughout the month! xo

  9. This sounds great, I’ve been in a blogging slump lately so this would really help me get out of it. Wish I’d heard about it sooner though as I’m not very prepared! Good luck with Blogtober!

  10. I didn’t actually know Blogtober was a thing *no hate plz* but I want to try it as well! I’ve done Blogmas for the past couple of years but I think Blogtober could be quite interesting because October is one of my favourite months ๐Ÿ˜Š

    1. I’ve heard of blogmas but I’m not a huge fan of Christmas – I know you’ve not got to write about Christmas REALLY if you don’t want to but I just guess it defeats the point if you don’t? Haha. Good luck if you do start! xo

  11. I don’t think I’ve missed a day since May 2014… and yes, I do have a life outside blogging…and a full-time job..and manage to write books ๐Ÿ™‚ Daily blogging is good practice and good discipline ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. I too, love a challenge, but… I have to edit a book this month and NOTHING will be allowed to get in the way of that. I suppose I could blog a few words every day about the joys of editing, but could be boring some of the time…

  13. Ooh, sounds exciting! I try to post fairly often anyway, but maybe this will encourage me more… I can’t wait to see how you do, hopefully it works out! ๐Ÿ™‚
