I’ve been blogging for 7+ years and I’ve been offering advertising for bloggers for around 5 of those years. A lot of bloggers have started offering advertising packages for bloggers lately, which is great. And I can imagine the more that do, the more will want to. Offering advertising packages does require some level of thought and planning though, so for anyone who thinks they might be interested in offering them in the future, here’s some advice for you.

Research advertising packages + legal stuff
I don’t do anything without doing a shit ton of research into it first and this was no exception. You can benefit so much from not jumping into something and actually taking the time to learn the in’s and out’s of it first beforehand. Remember, if you’re going to be offering advertising packages for bloggers, you’re going to be earning money. So you’ll have to look into getting yourself registered as self employed eventually.
This isn’t a *if you fancy* point, it’s law. So don’t sleep on this. In terms of other research around advertising packages, I’d see what other bloggers are doing and what they’re offering. Perhaps even buy an advertising slot or two with someone else to see how it goes for you, make note of the results and go from there.
Know what you want to offer in your advertising for bloggers
Since starting to offer these packages on my blog, the actual package itself has changes multiple times. I started off with different priced “tiered” packages – which became far too confusing. I then scrapped that and came up with something else that again, didn’t work for me. What I have now I really like but it took me a while to get there. Really think about the package that you’re offering.
So don’t be scared to chop and change your advertising packages if you’re finding they’re not working for you. And I’d also HIGHLY recommend trying to offer something a little different from everyone else – make your packages stand out from the crowd! I recently started offering a premium packages, which includes a feature newsletter for each holder. Which I’ve not seen anyone do before!
Think about what is realistic in terms of pricing your advertising slots
Something you need to think about is your pricing in comparison to your stats AND other bloggers with similar sized blogs to you. Sometimes these don’t correlate; I’ve heard of bloggers charging a LOT for an advertising package with minimal stats or “bigger” bloggers charging very little. You need to do the math.
If they’re for other bloggers, they need to be affordable. But you also need to take into considering the amount of time it takes to plan and schedule everything for your advertisers on a monthly basis.
Have “just in case” procedures in place
Things go wrong in blogging. We all know that. So having some procedures in place in case of that is usually a good idea. For example, I had a bunch of advertisers on my blog around September a few years ago. But halfway in, I had an absolutely terrible month and I didn’t blog for weeks, therefore my blog wasn’t getting as much traffic so it wasn’t fair on the current advertisers at the time. So I offered them a free month to make up for it.
Ask yourself if it’s worth it
Having advertisers on your blog is cool and it has lots of perks but ask yourself before you start if it’s really worth it and whether it will really benefit you and/or your blog. It’s a lot of extra work. It takes quite a bit of time to get all the tweets, the posts, the Facebook shout outs and whatever else set up for the month ahead. Do you have time for that? Weigh it up before throwing yourself in.
Those are my tips for bloggers who are considering offering advertising slots on their blog! Have you found these useful? What tips would you add if you offer them already? Have you ever bought an advertising slot before and if so, did you find it beneficial? Let me know in the comments!

Helpful!
I have seen the packages on your blog. It’s something I have thought of offering but I don’t have other social media to promote on
You definitely need social media to make the most of advertising packages.
I have been thinking of starting advertising slots within the next few months, so these tips are super helpful! I need to figure out if I’ll have the time and how I will plan out the content promotion, but I’d love to do it one day 🙂 c
Glad these tips helped!
Love your tips Jenny – spot on!
Thank you 🙂
Thanks for talking us through the cons as well as the positives!
You’re welcome 🙂
Super helpful! I’m trying to wrap my head around all this stuff and this makes it easier for sure
I’m glad 🙂
There’s definitely a lot that goes into it for sure I never quite realised myself!
I have advertised with you in the past so i know first hand how good it can be for a blogger as well as how much work you put into it 😍
Thnx Jenny! Xo

Thanks Sarah!
Thanks for the tips! As a newbie this is something I’ll be looking at in the future when I’m more up to speed on blogging and I’ve established my brand.
Great to hear!

Awh thanks Daisy!
This is something I have never really looked into before, but these tips are great. I don’t think I really understood what goes on behind the scenes of offer advertising, especially registering as self-employed if you start making a lot of money from it.
Really useful post!

Thank you! Yes the self employment point is so important!
These are great tips – this is where I failed as a blogger! I really could have used this guidance when I had my own active blog! Thanks for sharing – maybe someday I will revive it 🙂 (Now I blog for another entity)
You’re welcome!
This is a really helpful post! I am offering advertising slots and there is a lot that goes into it but I am excited to take on the challenge. It is crazy that people don’t think they need to be registered either. Thank you for these points, I know it’ll be eye opening for a lot of people

This post is really informative, Jen! Thank you for sharing this 🙂
You’re welcome!
I have seen so many advertising packages spring up and, while I do not think I will be advertising, I love the points you cover in this post. The best advertising packages are indeed ones that stand out and offer something new so it is worth it to think as much about that as it is to cover the legal aspect of it. 🙂
Definitely agree!
Such amazing tips Jenny! Thank you for shading! I’m looking at trying to get an advertising place in the next few months ☺️
For yourself or offering them to others? If it’s for you, I have availability in November!
Ooh!! I’ll get in touch in twitter for more information! Thank you!
This is such an informative post, I’ve never really thought about all the complexities of it all! Thanks for sharing x
Yeah there’s a bit to think about!
This is such an informative post Jenny! Offering so much good advice as always! x

Wow, divine timing!
I’ve been thinking about advertisement as a long term investment for my blog, I’m nowhere near ready yet but this has given me something to think about, thanks
You’re welcome!
Thank you for sharing Jenny. I’ve been thinking about creating similar paid ADs to promote my blog is future. At the moment I have a little segment where I’m essentially advertising some of my favourite bloggers for free but, in future I think I’d like to open this up to the wider audience.

Yesss you absolutely should and start CHARGING!
This is really good advice. Thank you for all of the information. I am not doing advertising on my website yet, but certainly may in the future.
Hope this helps if you ever do!
Great post, I haven’t seen anyone do a blog post on this before so it’s really interesting to know as I have been wondering how you go about doing advertising for bloggers and how people figure out the different packages. I haven’t brought an advertising slot yet from anyone, but it has been something I’ve been thinking about! Thank you for sharing these tips Jenny.
Chloe xx
You’re welcome! Yeah I think a lot of bloggers dive into it without thinking!
This really was so helpful!
I’ve been thinking about doing something like this for a while so I will look into it ☺️
Thanks so much for the tips!

You’re welcome!
This was a really helpful post. You’ve raised some good points and I completely agree, I’ve seen bloggers who have just started out, charging huge amounts.
Thank you 🙂
Great tips! I’ve been thinking about maybe looking for an advertising slot on another blog for my blog as I’ve not long started out so I will keep these points in mind!
I have availability this year if you ever want to book a slot!
Thank you for such useful tips. There is a lot of research that goes into advertising and I barely was aware of half of these! Thank you for always sharing such great content x
Thank you 🙂
Love this! I had been thinking about going this route and this has been a helpful guide- thank you so much for sharing your tips! x
You’re welcome!
Amazing tips! I love that you mentioned ‘just in case’ procedures because sometimes we’re just not in the right frame of mind to consistently work on our blogs. Offering a free month in that case sounds like a great way to make up for it and also keep those business relationships too x

Absolutely 🙂
Great post! You explain everything so well.

Thank you 🙂
So helpful as always Jenny! I’ve seen a lot more people offering advertising packages lately and it has made me look into it a bit more and think about what kind of thing I could offer, but I don’t think I’m there yet!
Thank you 🙂 You’ll get there, don’t rush!
It is a lot of work, people seriously under estimate whats involved, you need to treat it and look at it like its a job, after all you are getting paid to advertise. I might add my blog is a non advertising blog at the moment, just some observations from me
Wouldn’t hurt!
This is a great idea to offer advertising to bloggers, hadn’t thought of it, thanks for the tips 😊
You’re welcome
Such a good post, as usual. It’s not something I’d consider for myself but I have seen more and more of them crop up and that has made me wonder what will happen as it just gets more and more competitive. There’s some really great advice here, especially about registering as self-employed etc, I know I wouldn’t have even thought of that!
Honestly, if I get to a point where I can earn a decent amount through ads (like from mediavine or monumetric), I’d probably stop my advertising packages because before long, literally everyone is going to be doing the same thing x
This is a really interesting post! I’m considering advertising on my blog so its super helpful to have someone else more experienced share their thoughts x
I love advertising with you. It seems to be becoming very popular at the moment across twitter.
As always, this advice is really thorough, I’m sure a lot of people will benefit from it. It seems like an easy money maker I guess but it’s really important that people understand there is a huge amount more to it than they might initially think x
It really is. I do worry that everyone is just jumping on the bandwagon x
Yes I think there’s a lot of that at the mo 🤦🏼♀️
I really love this jenny, your tips I will keep your tips in mind when I start offering advertising packages thank you so much jenny.
You’re welcome!
Good time to write a post about advertising, Jenny! I was literally checking out your advertising packages the other day because I was curious. I think this was Sunday? Yep, WP just seems to know what to show me in the reader 😂
Great timing! Would love to have you if you’re interested 🙂
I’m a broke student haha I’m very interested in learning more about blogging and you’re very inspirational. 😊💕 I know I need to blog more often so I will start with that. It seems to be a key element.

I love advertising with other bloggers and so eventually made the decision to offer my own packages. I’ve changed the packages I offer and what I include and prices a lot in the last year, ish, and it definitely does take a lot of work. These are some really great tips, thanks for sharing! x
You’re welcome! It’s difficult to find the right work load to suit you.
I would suggest that first off you have to come up with a decent blogging schedule: have some idea of the days you will definitely post something, and then decide on the nature of the content. From there you can work out which brands and companies to approach for advertising and sponsorship. For example, I run a pagan lifestyle blog, but my focus at present is mothering (being a housewife) so I focus on the brands that I use regularly for me and my family, and those that will appeal to my audience.
I also cannot blog every day, so I cut it down to 3 days per week, allocating a set topic for each day (Mummy Monday, Witchy Wednesday, Free-for-all Friday) Then I can use my time more efficiently to schedule social media posts, respond to emails, and work on my novels. I am experimenting with affiliate marketing at the moment because it is easier to work with on a casual basis while my time is taken up with the children.
Great tips – making sure you have advertisers who match your blog is crucial!
I have a friend who is an author and he is realistic about what he expects to earn from his writing fiction. Your readers come to you blog because of the content so be sure that when you introduce ads they will be relevant to you audience and that the ads aren’t intrusive to them when they visit.
I already do have ads and they’re in no way intrusive. Just buttons in my sidebar people can click on if they want to. Nobody wants to go on a blog thats just plastered with adverts and nothing else!
