It’s no secret that I love food. All food. Just food. Gimmie, gimmie, gimmie. Sweet or savoury – I just love trying new food and recipes and over the past year or so, my passion for food has grown dramatically as I’ve been experimenting more and more in the kitchen and with different types of food. If an opportunity for my blog ever arises that involves food, I don’t hide my desperation in wanting to be involved. And today… is one of those days. I am trialling and testing Macabella today, a chocolate spread brand that have just launched in the UK. After being Australia’s 2016 product of the year in the spreads category, Macabella are finally in Sainsbury’s. And I’ve been sent some to eat. Yay.

Now, before I get started, just look at the beautiful box these spreads arrived to me in. They look like they should be presented in a swift little French market in a quaint little village, don’t they? I was sent 2 jars of the ‘Velvet‘ spread and 2 jar of the ‘Crunch‘ spread. At the time of writing, I’ve not actually tried them yet so I can’t tell you the difference but I’ll get back to you once I have! I’m also hoping to try them in a recipe and maybe on some croissants too!

So… What did I think?

Before I put it actually on anything I wanted to try them out and see what they tasted like. Me and my mum cracked open a jar of each, the velvet and the crunch, grabbed a spoon and stuck straight in. I instantly tasted the macadamia nuts in them – which I loved. Even if you’re not a massive nutty person, it’s quite a subtle taste and not over powering at all.

It was a soft ish spread, which I liked and oh so very moreish (for anyone that doesn’t know what moreish means it’s basically a food that’s addictive and you can’t / don’t want to stop eating – kinda like Pringles). The crunch has little crunchy bits in (duh!) and the velvet one really is as smooth as silk. On first impression, I probably could have eaten the whole jar to myself in a matter of minutes so take from that what you will.

Macabella in Action

As tempting as it was to just eat the entire jar with my finger, I did want to try the spread on something to see what it was like on actual food. I’m hoping to try it out in my no-bake Oreo truffles at some point in the future but unfortunately at the moment I don’t have all the stuff I need for that. But I’ll be sure to do a separate post on that when I do. So instead, I popped out and bought some croissants – the perfect breakfast food to have with chocolate spread! I used the crunch spread on my croissant and to be perfectly honest, there’s not much more to say other than it was gorgeous.

It’s so, so difficult to talk about something that’s really good other than just, ‘omgz it was amazeballs go buy it plz plz plz’ but I can’t think of anything else to say to you other than, if you love chocolate and love chocolate spread then I would 150% recommend Macabella. You can pick them up for £3 a jar in Sainsbury’s, which I think it a great price for how much you get. With it being quite a rich spread, it will last you quite a while. Now, how do you fancy winning some for yourself?
