As I’ve said time and time again I bloody love buying gifts for people. It’s one of my absolute favourite things to do and I love it when someone’s birthday or Christmas is coming up because I know I can spend hours and hours browsing and researching and brainstorming ideas for their gifts. I always try and go for something personal or personalized. Something that is a bit unique and different which will mean something to them. Of course I’ll also add in little bit and pieces which I know they will like but the main bulk of presents I buy are often personalized or something along those lines.
My mum is someone I always like to treat when her birthday rolls around. Despite how she always tells me not to spend much, I probably spend more on her than anyone else. I don’t know what I’d do without my mum so it feels nice to spoil her a few times a year for birthday, Mother’s Day and Christmas. Especially as my own birthday isn’t long before hers and I feel like I’m repaying the gesture as she always gets me more than I expect and deserve on my birthday!
The first thing I got her is probably one of my favourite things I’ve ever bought, ever. I commissioned Kelly from My Fair Pixel for a print of our dog, Rory. My mum loves the dog way more than she loves me so it was only right to get her something related to that mutt! I couldn’t have been happier with the result of Kelly’s work. She’s an immensely talented artist and I feel so good for getting this because it’s also helped out another small business owner!
The next thing I got her was just something small, the Absolutely Fabulous movie! She loves Joanna Lumley and we’ve watched the first season of Absolutely Fabulous together so I thought the movie might be a fun thing to watch one evening! I ordered this from Amazon (not spon).
As I was trying to stick to a “support small businesses and/or get personalised gifts” this year, I asked the lovely Claire from Aloha Lola Cards to do me a caricature card of my mum. She was so professional and we discussed what types of things would be on the card (we chose all her favourite things as background images) and Claire sent me photos of the progress along the way. She delivered it in a little folder so it wouldn’t get bent or damaged and was so, so happy with the result!
To finish up my mum’s presents I bought her a book – I finally settled on The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena (and let’s ignore the fact I’ll definitely be stealing this after she’s read it!) and a little book journal which has pages to write thoughts on the books you’ve read! Obviously she’s not going to start a book blog but me and mum always talk about books so I thought that might be a nice little additional to her presents!
I hope you liked this little haul of things I bought my mum for her birthday! What’s your favourite type of gift to give someone on a special occasion? Are you an avid gift-giver like me? Let’s chat!

Thank you! I always try too – I don’t want to get people something they can quite easily pick up themselves if they need it you know? (: xx
This is so incredibly sweet and thoughtful! Sometimes it is so hard to find the perfect gifts for my mom, but I think you’ve done a really good job here!

They are lovely presents! My mum would love the book. She is such a bookworm! I sometimes have flowers sent to her just randomly. Since her birthday is just two weeks after christmas, we often do a big christmas present xx corinne
Ah that makes sense to do one big gift giving day than 2 smaller ones if her birthday is that close to Christmas (: xx
Hi, whT. Lovely selection of gifts for your mum. The picture of your dog is very cute.
