I’ve been really enjoying writing more personal posts recently and it’s something I want to continue to incorporate into my blog. I wrote about my smear test, what I got my mum for her birthday and about my birthday day out at Paradise Wildlife Park. I like injecting a bit of my personal life into my blog because I love reading those types of posts too! So today, I want to tell you about a trip away I had in September to the Severn Valley Railway! It was a new experience for me but one that I really enjoyed.
First of all, it was a spur of the moment decision to go. My boyfriend’s grandparents were supposed to be going but didn’t so there was some spare space so I decided why the heck not! We drove to Bridgnorth from Lincolnshire on Thursday morning for the beginning of the Autumn Steam Gala, which runs along the line from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster and uses various different steam engines – some of which are over 100 years old. I’ve never actually been on a steam train before myself but I quickly found out that they’re really quite nice – a lot like the Hogwarts Express and the scenery along the route is to die for.
Bridgnorth to Kidderminster takes roughly an hour and a quarter on the train so it really was a slow, relaxing holiday. Plenty of time to listen to music, read, chat, think and just look out of the window at the lovely scenery. You’d think it would be boring, spending the majority of 4 days on and off of trains but it really wasn’t, there is so much to look at and so many people to meet that it’s impossible to get bored. The stop off times vary and you can always get off at each individual station and have a look around. They’re super cute and quaint, most of which had little book sales (which I took advantage of) and were plastered with old school advertising posters as they would have been back in the day.
We stopped for dinner each night, my favourite being a pub meal at The Ship Inn and my burger and chips was to die for. The trains also ran throughout the entire night on Friday and Saturday so I stayed on well until it got dark (and until I got too tired) and it’s a whole different experience, being on the trains in the dark. It’s really eerie but I loved it. My boyfriend’s family have taken these holidays his whole life but this was my first one and not something I ever thought I would enjoy. But even if you’re not that interested in trains (like me), it’s definitely not all about that.

Looks like you had a great time on the Severn Valley Railway and glad that your boyfriend introduced you to this. There are lots more heritage railways to enjoy so hope you choose to visit another one soon. They all have their own unique characteristics!
This sounds like an amazing trip, I have never been on the seven valley railway but what a good idea!

It was so relaxing – not like a train ride in London haha

Same! I adore the UK 😍
I would never even considered a holiday of this style before, I didn’t even know they existed but it sounds fantastic. I’m so glad you had a lovely time. Xx
Haha neither did I until I met my current boyfriend!
It’s wonderful that this short break had so much to offer you, even though you’re not the biggest train lover! The scenery looks absolutely stunning and who can resist a little book sale at your stop off points hehe! I’m glad you enjoyed yourself – that burger and chips does sound heavenly!

Oh for sure! I can’t wait to go again. Sometimes it takes doing something you don’t think you’ll enjoy to perk you up a bit and things can really surprise you ☺️ xxx
What a lovely holiday! I love riding on trains, and book shops, so you’ve kind of sold it to me just on that alone! I didn’t even know this was a type of holiday. I would love to go with my mum.
Haha! I don’t know where you are in the UK but you should totally do it! They offer 1, 2 or 3 day tickets (you don’t have to do the whole thing). It really is lovely (: xx
This looks so amazing, and the food so yummy!
Okay, I wanna take all of those candies! ♥ and the train do looks like the Hogwarts Express! ^^

What an amazing idea for a staycation. I’ve never been on a steam train and this is something my husband would love to do, I’m sure. And the idea of just sitting back and relaxing while the gorgeous scenery rolls by – heaven! Lovely review and thank you for a great idea! X

You’re welcome! Honestly it’s so lovely, there’s so many nice pubs and a gorgeous river to have a wander by and tons of shops and lovely fish and chip shops along the route so there’s plenty to do if you’re not totally into trains like me. But it’s a great chance to catch up on a ton of reading! xxx
I’ve had an obsession with trains ever since I was a child! That train is beauteous 😍😍😍
Awh really! You sound like my boyfriend 🤣 you’d absolutely love this weekend!
This looks like an amazing trip! The view from the train looks amazing too and so lovely. I’m not really one for staycations because I prefer cities so maybe somewhere like oxford or Cambridge/London haha x

I’ve lived in a city my whole life, I hate it! You can get to really lovely towns etc from this Railway so it’s definitely not all countryside x
