The thought process of a Sims addict

Ah…. The Sims. One of life’s literal greatest inventions. I truly mean that – The Sims has provided me with hours and hours and hours and hours and days and probably months of entertainment. It’s given me an escape from real life where everything is pretty mundane to my Sims life where I can do whatever I want, whenever I want and achieve things beyond my wildest expectations (but really I’ll probably just spend 13 hours a day playing chess on the computer to try and get that logic skill up). I’ve been a die-hard Sims fan since the days of Mortimer and Bella Goth and literally not being able to leave your own neighborhood until the ever-so-advanced Sims 4 (which I didn’t actually like, so I play number 3) where your Sim looks more human than you do. I’ve played with all the cheats in the book, had families of Aliens, Zombies and Plant People and experimented with every career in the local newspaper. Honestly, I bloody LOVE The Sims. And if you do too, you’ll probably relate to the following thought process.

1. Let’s make me… That’ll be fun!
2. Okay, what do I look like?
3. Bit wider round here.. Bit longer here… Nose a bit bigger here…
4. Jesus fucking Christ, never mind, it’s what’s on the inside that counts. I can charm another Sim with my Glob Er Dee Floob instead.
5. I’m finally going to play a proper game without cheating. Now where can I live?
6. In this shed?
7. *motherlode, motherlode, motherlode, motherlode*
8. Fuck it, I’ll pretend I won the lottery
9. *builds biggest fucking house you’ve ever seen*
10. *uses 2 rooms maximum*
11. Okay I need a job now, what have I always wanted to do?
12. Astronaut. Definitely astronaut.
13. Day 3 of new job: Promotion! Yay! I’m on the way up. Literally.
14. I feel so productive, I’ve become a chess master, adopted 4 dogs, had 6 promotions and built a hotel all in a matter of…
15. 9 hours?!
16. I need to go to sleep. But not until I’ve learnt how to make a Goopy Carbonara.
17. Ahhhh, Goopy Carbonara perfecto!
18. I miss The Goths
19. Holy fuck, I’m getting burgled! This music never fails to scare me.
20. What the heck, all he took was the toilet?
21. Finally, my promotion to Astronaut! I’ve been waiting all by 11 days for this.
22. Probably time to start a family now *searches for best looking Sim possible*
23. Half an hour later: Good, the wedding went well.
24. I should have slept 3 hours ago.
25. I’ll pick this up in the morning.

Are you a self-confessed Sims addict? I’d love to hear about your experience with The Sims! What’s your favourite, 1, 2, 3 or 4? And favourite expansion pack? What’s the most bizarre thing that’s happened to your Sim?

  1. I am addicted to the Sims 2. I just… I want the Sims 4. *goes to EB Games and hands over bank account* LOL

    1. I personally wasn’t a fan of 4!

Hahaha I love this post girl!! I am SO obsessed with the Sims too since day one – I agree with your point about The Sims 3 being better than The Sims 4 though, the thing that annoyed me most about Sims 4 is how you can’t openly walk around in the world and follow your sims as they do in Sims 3. Also I miss The Goths too 😛 Bella and Mortimer wasn’t it?! X

    1. I know! WHY couldn’t you do that? I feel like that was a huge step back. It was indeed! I’d love to get my hands on a copy of The Sims 1 just for the nostalgia!

  3. Oh God, when I was 10, I created my Sim family and all was going well until I accidently started a fire and all my Sims fried while sleeping in their beds. My mum came running upstairs as I was screaming ‘STACEY!!!’ (the teenage daughter, who was getting burned alive) and then my mum started screaming because she could just see the horrific situation that was playing out on screen. To this day, we laugh so much about it!

    1. Hahahaha! That’s absolutely brilliant. I have a similar story; I was playing World Adventures and sent my family to France for a holiday and all was going well until one night there was a fire in the hotel and one of the kids got caught in it and died and it was literally so depressing 😂

      1. oh god haha! I imagine the trip back home for them wasn’t so fun!

  4. I used to play Sims – it was so addictive! This makes me want to play again!

    1. You should!

  5. I absoluetly love this post Jenny! I’m a massive Sims fan as I just love getting lost in the game. I also have the same thoughts that you do, so incredibly accurate! 🌺🎠

    1. Same! I’m thinking of having a Sims session today actually!

  6. Hahahaha the first Sims was the best, it was such a revelation! I played the Sims constantly while I was at uni, it was such a good procrastination technique – and I won’t let myself buy it again for that exact reason! xo

    1. Haha thank you x

  12. I relate to this so much! I’ve being playing sims on and off since i was a kid. I don’t think i will be able to ever kick the habit! I especially love the whole Bella Goth mystery. And the Sims 4 just kinda falls flat for me, I stick to 2 and 3. 😊

    1. I agree, I hated 4!

  13. This has made me want to abandon all my responsibilities and lay in bed and play the sims all day…

    1. And you should totally do that!

      1. unfortunately, I have a house to pack up, but maybe I’ll play for a few hours…. (famous last words)

  14. Was so obsessed took me years to get off it

    1. Why did you get off it at all?!

      1. Because I had so many commitments thst I just couldn’t play anymore. I’ve lost the game as well somewhere in my room😂

  15. alohalola says:

Haha The Sims is like a drug I swear! It’s been a while since I played but I admit, I use the cheat codes so I can buy everything as well! x x x

    1. It really is, it’s addictive!

  16. I am a Sims Junkie!!! I started with The Sims 2 and owned all expansions. Then went to The Sims 3 where I created this huge family history with my sister and we made the family history happen with our Sims in the game. I current play The Sims 4 and own all the expansions. The craziest thing with my first Sims ever was that I did not realize that a “flirt” to gain friends was considered cheating, so when my girl died, she literally came back as a ghost and tortured her husband until he finally died of fright! It was the BEST! 🙂 My current Sim in the Sims 4 looks like me and I created a dog to look identical to my dog, Ragonk, and she and Ragonk are living my dream life as a travelling writer. 🙂

    1. Haha that’s brilliant! I love making a family and playing them through the generations 🙂

  17. I LOVE THE SIMS 3 omggg this brings be flashbacks to middle school…. every time I caught my boss flirting, id lock em up in a fence for a long while…good times..

    1. HA! As you do! 😉

  18. HAHAHA!!! This is really funny and relatable! It’s a post a never thought I’d see! GOOD ONE!!

    1. Haha thank you, I’m glad you liked it 🙂

  19. Hahaha yes! I haven’t played sims in forever but now I really want to! Might have to build my dream house 😂

    1. You should! It’s so fun!

  20. Lmao this is all so true! I love the sims!! I remember when the sims vacation expansion pack came out and I wanted my sims couple to woohoo in the jacuzzi on vacation but they couldn’t with their kids there, so I drowned the kids in the pool lol. I was terrible. Now I don’t purposely kill the sims but I do download a lot of the mods that make them do crazy things lol. I know a lot of people like sims 3 the best, but I have to say I really enjoy sims 4!

    1. Hahaha oh no that’s awful! I loved the Vacation expansion pack! Agh I really couldn’t get into 4, unfortunately!

  21. Such a relatable post haha!

    1. Thank you x

  22. HAHA so relatable Jenny I love this! I always intended not to cheat but always ended up being a billionaire instead and cheating 😂 I had so many Sims games I also loved Sims Castaway too xx

    1. Omg Castaway is one I never played!

  23. I always think I too am about to play a game of the SIms without cheating and get about ten minutes into it and say — Nope! Cheat codes it is! Plus, I think that makes the game just a tad bit more fun any which way!

    Funny post! x
