The thought process of a Sims addict

Ah…. The Sims. One of life’s literal greatest inventions. I truly mean that – The Sims has provided me with hours and hours and hours and hours and days and probably months of entertainment. It’s given me an escape from real life where everything is pretty mundane to my Sims life where I can do whatever I want, whenever I want and achieve things beyond my wildest expectations (but really I’ll probably just spend 13 hours a day playing chess on the computer to try and get that logic skill up). I’ve been a die-hard Sims fan since the days of Mortimer and Bella Goth and literally not being able to leave your own neighborhood until the ever-so-advanced Sims 4 (which I didn’t actually like, so I play number 3) where your Sim looks more human than you do. I’ve played with all the cheats in the book, had families of Aliens, Zombies and Plant People and experimented with every career in the local newspaper. Honestly, I bloody LOVE The Sims. And if you do too, you’ll probably relate to the following thought process.

1. Let’s make me… That’ll be fun!
2. Okay, what do I look like?
3. Bit wider round here.. Bit longer here… Nose a bit bigger here…
4. Jesus fucking Christ, never mind, it’s what’s on the inside that counts. I can charm another Sim with my Glob Er Dee Floob instead.
5. I’m finally going to play a proper game without cheating. Now where can I live?
6. In this shed?
7. *motherlode, motherlode, motherlode, motherlode*
8. Fuck it, I’ll pretend I won the lottery
9. *builds biggest fucking house you’ve ever seen*
10. *uses 2 rooms maximum*
11. Okay I need a job now, what have I always wanted to do?
12. Astronaut. Definitely astronaut.
13. Day 3 of new job: Promotion! Yay! I’m on the way up. Literally.
14. I feel so productive, I’ve become a chess master, adopted 4 dogs, had 6 promotions and built a hotel all in a matter of…
15. 9 hours?!
16. I need to go to sleep. But not until I’ve learnt how to make a Goopy Carbonara.
17. Ahhhh, Goopy Carbonara perfecto!
18. I miss The Goths
19. Holy fuck, I’m getting burgled! This music never fails to scare me.
20. What the heck, all he took was the toilet?
21. Finally, my promotion to Astronaut! I’ve been waiting all by 11 days for this.
22. Probably time to start a family now *searches for best looking Sim possible*
23. Half an hour later: Good, the wedding went well.
24. I should have slept 3 hours ago.
25. I’ll pick this up in the morning.

Are you a self-confessed Sims addict? I’d love to hear about your experience with The Sims! What’s your favourite, 1, 2, 3 or 4? And favourite expansion pack? What’s the most bizarre thing that’s happened to your Sim?

  1. Hahaha I love this post girl!! I am SO obsessed with the Sims too since day one – I agree with your point about The Sims 3 being better than The Sims 4 though, the thing that annoyed me most about Sims 4 is how you can’t openly walk around in the world and follow your sims as they do in Sims 3. Also I miss The Goths too 😛 Bella and Mortimer wasn’t it?! X

  2. Oh God, when I was 10, I created my Sim family and all was going well until I accidently started a fire and all my Sims fried while sleeping in their beds. My mum came running upstairs as I was screaming ‘STACEY!!!’ (the teenage daughter, who was getting burned alive) and then my mum started screaming because she could just see the horrific situation that was playing out on screen. To this day, we laugh so much about it!

    1. Hahahaha! That’s absolutely brilliant. I have a similar story; I was playing World Adventures and sent my family to France for a holiday and all was going well until one night there was a fire in the hotel and one of the kids got caught in it and died and it was literally so depressing 😂

  3. I absoluetly love this post Jenny! I’m a massive Sims fan as I just love getting lost in the game. I also have the same thoughts that you do, so incredibly accurate! 🌺🎠

  4. This was such a fun post. You should be so proud of yourself for always coming up with creative new content, I’m excited for what a next, haha! 🙂

I used to be absolutly Sim obsessed as a teenager, I definitely need to go back on it soon and I’m sure I’ll still be as obsessed!

  5. I relate to this so much! I’ve being playing sims on and off since i was a kid. I don’t think i will be able to ever kick the habit! I especially love the whole Bella Goth mystery. And the Sims 4 just kinda falls flat for me, I stick to 2 and 3. 😊

  6. Haha The Sims is like a drug I swear! It’s been a while since I played but I admit, I use the cheat codes so I can buy everything as well! x x x

  7. I am a Sims Junkie!!! I started with The Sims 2 and owned all expansions. Then went to The Sims 3 where I created this huge family history with my sister and we made the family history happen with our Sims in the game. I current play The Sims 4 and own all the expansions. The craziest thing with my first Sims ever was that I did not realize that a “flirt” to gain friends was considered cheating, so when my girl died, she literally came back as a ghost and tortured her husband until he finally died of fright! It was the BEST! 🙂 My current Sim in the Sims 4 looks like me and I created a dog to look identical to my dog, Ragonk, and she and Ragonk are living my dream life as a travelling writer. 🙂

  8. Lmao this is all so true! I love the sims!! I remember when the sims vacation expansion pack came out and I wanted my sims couple to woohoo in the jacuzzi on vacation but they couldn’t with their kids there, so I drowned the kids in the pool lol. I was terrible. Now I don’t purposely kill the sims but I do download a lot of the mods that make them do crazy things lol. I know a lot of people like sims 3 the best, but I have to say I really enjoy sims 4!

  9. I always think I too am about to play a game of the SIms without cheating and get about ten minutes into it and say — Nope! Cheat codes it is! Plus, I think that makes the game just a tad bit more fun any which way!

    Funny post! x

  10. Ah! I love the Sims so much! My parents almost bought me a sweater that said “Sorry I can’t my sims family needs me” because I tell them about my sims life more than my own. I used to hate Sims 4 because of the controls but I love it now! I do miss a lot of Sims 3 and had a lot of the expansion packs that I have yet to play around with. My favorite expansion pack in Sims 4 is probably a tie between Parenthood and Cats & Dogs but I have pretty much everything (and yet to play around with it) and love almost all of the expansions in Sims 3. I can’t remember the oddest thing that has happened! I do remember my sim getting pregnant with twins and married the guy but he had FIVE other girls he was with soo she instantly got a divorce and had twin VAMPIRE kids to take care of. I gotta play that again!

Great post! I chuckled quite a bit while reading it. (:

      1. I’m going to put it on my “things that I want to purchase” list for when people ask what I want! I sort of forgot about it until commenting on your post!

  11. Ha ha, this post reminded me of all the happy hours I used to spend playing the Sims! Your thought process is so funny cos it’s exactly what happens! 🤣 I haven’t played this in ages but this has made me want to dig it out again, it’s so fun and addictive! Great post Jenny! 😘 xx

  12. I’ve never been into any sort of video game, but it’s nice to learn a little bit about it. I’ve heard of sims before through social media, I’ve just never gotten too into it

  13. I LOVE this post! So addicted to The Sims, it’s ridiculous. I’m currently playing The Sims 4 as it runs best on my laptop, but I think my favourite was TS3, possible TS2 – I loved the apartments in TS2!

  14. I’m absolutely cackling cause this sounds like my actual life. I absolutely adore the Sims, although I’ve still not got round to trying Sims 4 – die hard Sims 3 fan here! I find myself going through stages of playing it for days on end and then not touching it for a week or so. My laptop just broke so I can’t actually play it now, it’s SO ANNOYING!

  15. Haha, I am a total SIMS addict. Now that I’m a parent of 2 I don’t have a lot of time to play, but every once in a while I still come back to it for a few hours. Unfortunately a few hours isn’t QUITE long enough to go through all of this, haha, but it’s still fun to play. I’m so proud of myself though, I’m so good at making money that I hardly ever cheat anymore! I just deal with the crappy house for a bit.

  16. I used to LOVE the Sims, but have never installed it on my new laptop (which is rubbish despite being just a few years old 😔). I can’t wait till a day when I can play it again! Relate to loads of these points 😂
My fave expansion was Generations, and I also loved Ambitions and Seasons.

  17. I am so glad I am not the only one out there who played this and was absolutely obsessed! I would play for hours and hours and I would get into what I call the computer zone and I wouldn’t be able to sleep. I haven’t played in a the last 6-7 months and I miss it. Anything new about it that’s exciting?

  18. Haha omg I love this post and I’m feeling very nostalgic! I used to love sims 2 on ps2 and spent so many days of my life immersed in it. I’ve not played sims in ages but I think after reading this I’m going to crack it out again!

  19. OMG I’ve played it from The Sims ONE! The most bizarre thing happen to my sims was that HE was abducted by an alien and return home the day after, and he was PREGNANT, WHAT?! Then he gave birth to green baby alien 😂 My favorite would be the sims 2 with all of that addicting expansions, my fav expansions are probably university, or season, or pet, or.. OMG I can’t pick a favorite! Why would you do that to me you monster!
