The unemployment rates are steadily rising, but it can mean that more and more people are going to be applying for each job out there. So if you want to step up your career or go back into the workplace after working from home, then you need to make sure that you are pulling some stellar moves to land the interview, and then the job that you want. If you feel like you’re struggling with this, or are not even sure where to start, then girl, I’ve got you. Here are some tips to help.

Personalise Your Application

As tedious and time consuming as it can be, you need to personalise your job applications or your CV, for each role that you’re applying for. Employers can spot them a mile off, and it is never going to look good when they are sorting through ones that have been made specifically for the role and the ones that are just a copy and paste generic job. Look at the requirements and job description and show how you’ve got experience of that from the things that you have done.

Further Your Education

Learning is something that we should never want to stop doing, whether that is formally or not. But for some job roles, there may be some experience or qualifications that will really help to get you on the job ladder. Are there any courses that you could be doing to help further your skills or knowledge? You could look for CIPD courses, for example, as doing one could get you a pathway to acquiring internationally recognised qualifications in human resources, for instance. But there are so many different kinds of courses out there that are the perfect fit for technology companies, so there is bound to be one that is going to work for you and what you want to do.

Get Social

Networking and chatting to people that are doing what you want to do can be a good way to get your foot in the door, so to speak. You can ask them the ins and outs of the job, so that you can tailor your applications to those situations, for example. You should also look at your social media profiles too. Are they set up as they should be? Though they are social media profiles, are they as professional looking as they could be? LinkedIn is a good site to be on too, as you can network on there, without having to leave your home.

Ace The Interview

Your application may be great, and then you get to the interview stage. But if you’re not too sure how to ace a job interview, then the effort that went into the application process can be a waste. So practice, practice, and practice some more. Look up some standard questions, and think about your answers ahead of time. Research the company and learn a few facts about them or their ethos that you can include on the day. Then, look your best, be on time, be positive, and smile!

  2. It’s so important to do whatever you can to look more employable – especially with the tough competition out there. YES! IT is so important to personalize your resume. You need to stand out or else recruiters won’t notice you. Getting an education is so important. I mean if it’s between two people, having a degree will give the upper advantage.
