I get a lot of comments about how organised I am with my blog, wondering how I’ve scheduled content 2 months in advance and how I juggle so much at the same time. I get these comments because I regularly mention these things on Twitter; I’m proud of what I do and I like to share those moments with my Twitter followers and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. I love my blog (not every day – mind you!), I love writing and producing content, replying to comments, reading other people’s blogs, brainstorming blog post ideas and powering through my to do list each day. I have no problem doing these things over and over again because I’m motivated to do them. And to be frank, I’m more motivated now than I’ve probably ever been before.

I know motivation comes in ebbs and flows. I’m under no illusion than in a months time, I’ll still be as motivated as I am now. I might be less or more – there’s literally no way to tell but things like motivation are never linear and we have to accept that before we continue with this post. Right now, I am super motivated. It feels great. I never want it to end – although it probably will – and I wanted to share some of the ways I stay so motivated which will hopefully help anyone in a bit of a funk. As always, these are all things relevant to me and may not apply to / work for everyone.

I think about the future

and the past. I think about how far I’ve come with my little blog and how I had no idea what doors writing words on the internet could open for you. I always want to improve and grow and working hard is the only way to do that. That is a huge source of motivation for me.

I’m organised

I make things easier for myself by being super duper Bree Van De Kamp type organised with everything I do. My organisational skills and abilities are my favourite thing about myself and I pride myself on it every single day. Being organised so you know what is what can help with motivation because it gives you less to worry about.

I treat myself

Despite really struggling to switch off sometimes, I almost always ensure that I’m rewarding myself for my hard work. Almost like someone who’s worked hard in an office all week will go home on Friday, order a massive takeaway and drink a bottle of wine. I don’t drink but I do treat myself to a “thing” every day.

I know how good it feels

Crossing that last thing off your to-do list, hitting “schedule” on that blog post or pressing “send” on that brand collaboration email – I know how good this all feels so that motivates me to do it again and again and again. Seeing the benefits of hard work is always a motivator to do it again.

I enjoy it

A really really really important thing than I cannot express enough. With blogging or an online business or anything of that nature, you have to enjoy it. You have to. There’s no other way around it. Yes, there are certain things I hate doing (like scheduling tweets) but all in all, I f***ing love blogging. I want to continue doing it and doing it more. So I will.

I’m self employed

Another big motivator which obviously won’t apply to everyone but being self-employed, I kinda have no choice but to be motivated. If I don’t work hard and hustle, I’m not going to get any money that month. I want to improve my earnings of course and the only way to do that is the show brands, PR’s and authors that I’m worthy of that collab. If you’re not self-employed, you can always use the same mindset to improve your motivation.

How are you feeling with blogging at the moment? Are you super motivated or are you lacking a bit? Which of these tips will you take with you into your own blogging life? Let me know!

  1. I had to give this a read as I always notice your tweets about your achievements on twitter! For me I find it extremely motivating to myself, I love seeing other people doing well and achieving! It gives me a bit of a kick to get myself together. I am in process of writing content so I can get myself back on a blogging schedule. I feel if I am already ahead of my own schedule I won’t feel so much pressure to write or have to write things in a rush and that’s never good. After all we blog because we enjoy it, it shouldn’t become a chore!

  2. Loved this! I am a new blogger looking to gain some friends and followers in the same category as mine and I must say, I loved your posts! I followed you so I can continue being inspired! Follow back please 🙂

  3. I beleive that inspiraing is the only way to reinvent ourselves if we reward ourselves for the good deeds that we have did for ourselves.
Thanks for sharing us your inspirations tips 🙂

  4. I also use the future as my main motivator. It’s good having something to look forward to! I also like to treat myself on occasion, however I am trying to put a stop to this as there are only so many pairs of shoes that fit in my wardrobe 😀

  5. These are truly helpful tips….thanks

You can check out my post that relates to this via emmanuellove356165818.wordpress.com/2018/06/25/how-to-move-forward-with-no-motivation/

  6. I’m lacking a bit at the moment. Just decided to take July off from the blog: I’ll still be writing up reviews etc, but to actually get a bit ahead with the scheduling so I’m not constantly feeling like it’s a catch up game which takes the enjoyment out of it. Hopefully in a months’ time, I’ll have loads of content scheduled and be feeling the buzz again. Great post!

      1. Ooh good, I’m really hoping so. Just need time to get ahead of stuff rather than constantly feeling on catch-up mode!

  7. I found this SO interesting and helpful.Blogging is a lot of fun to me obviously, but the stress that comes along with growing your blog is annoying. But I feel like just the fact that I’m not where I want to be should be enough motivation.Love your blog as always!Keep doing you:)

  8. I love this post, I always see your tweets where you say you’ve scheduled so many posts and I’m like.. ‘how does she do it?!’ so thank you for this post! I’m currently trying to get back into my blogging again as I have had a break so I’m currently slowly getting my inspiration back!

  9. Love this post Jenny! I never realized how important it is to treat myself every once in awhile. I love blogging and it feels so good when I hit schedule or have a post that’s really popular but it really sets in when I’m able to take a step back and enjoy something outside of my blog. I’m also very organized and I’m glad I found something where my OCD actually works haha.

  10. Wow you are super organised but I can see where your motivation comes from – your passion for what you do. That’s inspiring to me. I love what I do but I also work full time so I don’t have the time I’d like to spend creating content. Best of luck with everything Jenny!

  11. So motivational and love the Desperate Housewives reference. Bree Hodge – what a woman (I’m currently re-watching it!)
I too schedule all my content months in advance, including my blogs and youtube videos.

  12. It is really amazing that you are so organized and plan thing ahead of time. I have always read your tweets and feel the excitement that you share. I am such a last moment person. I always say that I have plan things and work smart but find it a little difficult. I am always motivated to work hard and the feeling that I have to improve and grow my blog motivates me. I find 24 hours is very less in a day haha! I have my travel plans at the end of this month and I am trying to prepare as many posts as I can. Loved reading your tips and will try to follow. 🙂 Thanks for all the motivational tweets and this post. Have a nice day lovely.

  13. This is such a lovely post Jenny! Everything you’ve written is so true and between juggling a full time job and just life in general it’s reallt hard for my to stay motivated and keep on top of things but I really want to change that!

    Love, Cally x

  14. These are really great points! I have been blogging for a few months now and have been really enjoying it! Working full time and then blogging can be hard but loving it helps. I did for a while have a but were I got down about the numbers but I’m going to keep going and eventually it will all work out! Great post xx

  15. You are honestly one of my biggest inspirations in the blogging world Jenny. You work so hard and you always come up with awesome blog posts! I love that you treat yourself to a thing everyday. I’m not a drinker either so a bubbly bath at the end of the day is my thing which I guess is the equivalent to something alcoholic 😄 xx

  16. I’ve been blogging on and off for 5 years. I was in high school when I started it as a hobby. Now that I’m older and in college I’ve wanted to make it into more of my job. That has been hard when I know I have not put in nearly as much effort as I need to. Now that I am on summer vacation from classes I’ve been looking at going self hosted, making sure my blog looks more professional

  17. I actually think it’s incredible that you have so much content planned, I am literally in awe of you! I’m going to keep hold of this post for times when I’m lacking motivation.. 🙊

  18. I honestly envy this about you so much. I never schedule my posts. I very much like them to be ‘in the moment’ how I’m feeling/ what I’m using. I only really plan posts for the future if they’re for a certain event/ occasion. I can’t have drafts sat there too long either or they drive me crazy! Motivation is so hit and miss for me. I feel like it changes so quickly. Having a to-do list really helps! One good thing is that when I am motivated, I’m so productive it’s like I’m on fire so the lazy days don’t cause too much of a problem 😂 great post! x

  19. I’m really lacking in motivation this month, and it’s a really hard place to get out of because I have a lot of self-doubt and don’t really know if I should carry on anymore…

But reading this has made me feel a bit better! I hope that one day I can be as happy and as motivated with my blog as you are. It’s so inspiring how far you’ve come with it!

  20. Oh wow! Scheduled 2 months in advance! Massive congrats on being so organized, I sometimes can’t write fast enough before suddenly it’s upload day and I’m staring at a blank document haha. I always make myself a list of things to get done, and usually that works well for me to keep ticking items off the list and getting everything done.

At the moment I’m actually pretty motivated with my blog – I have about 1 month of posts ready to go! I sometimes forget to treat myself though so definitely have to ingrain that in my subconscious to treat myself every once in a while!

  21. Great tips! I find that my motivation levels change a lot, so one week I will want to write lots but another I might not want to at all. I think I need to work on being more organised and scheduling posts for when I lack motivation!

  22. This is everything I needed to hear right now. I’ve been struggling to get organised and motivated with my blog for a while now. I’m putting more time and effort into it again and I’m excited to see what the future holds for me and my little blog <3

  23. I love these! I especially agree with the organisation part. I feel like most of my motivation, aside from just loving blogging, comes from organising my days and blog posts in my journal – I recently bought a cute new notebook from Paperchase to put all my blog stuff in. Lovely post, Jenny!

  24. These are all really great ways to stay motivated. I love how you mentioned treating yourself. I’ve been trying to do that more often and learning how to take breaks. It’s so important! Yesterday, I had a long day and decided to go on a movie date with my bf. It was such a nice treat after a busy day xx Great post!!

  25. Love these tips and your attitude about blogging in general! It’s so important to be able to go with the flow but also keep yourself motivated and consistent. I’m definitely working on my consistency, but I only started consistently blogging in January – so I’m trying to be patient with myself 🙂 Keep up the great work!

  26. Jenny, your last point absolutely hit home with me. Being self employed, running my business back in India, finding my footing in London with freelance writing and blogging and photography, everyday is a struggle. Everyday you have to pick yourself up, find that motivation in you and keep working. Because if not, then what else would you do, right?

    Great post!

  27. Hi, I like reading our postings! I thought I would do more blogging in the summer, but as it has turned out, I am not. I have done less. 🙂 But who knows, summer is long??

  28. Great post!

My blog numbers are starting to climb so that has me motivated right now. I know that will probably level off at some point so I am using this time to write drafts for those “less than motivated” times.

  29. Love this!! Especially thinking towards the future – so important to set ourselves goals and work our way towards them, makes the whole process more exciting when there’s a goal in sight! I’m fairly new to the whole blogging world but finding that having a passion for writing really is the biggest motivation! Amazing post x

  30. Hi Jenny, your post has actually really inspired me, I have to try and remember why I started my blog – which is because I love writing and not for publicity! It’s sometimes a bit demoralising when nobody reads a post I spent a lot of time on, but at least I enjoyed it and I have to remember that 🙂 it’s a good thing to stay organised too! I’m going to try be more organised myself and enjoy my blog for me! Keep up the good work xx

  31. That’s so inspiring! Great stuff …. My problem is just trying to fit everything in during the day! With a constant stream of visitors about to commence I’m slightly tearing out my hair! Katie x

  32. I have to say you are like my blogging/self employed hero. I swear you never sleep. Even though you have so much content it’s all top quality. You’re just one to watch constantly! Amazing tips, treating yourself is defo one I do haha

  33. Awesome post! Right now, I’m motivated to blog… just getting my blog off the ground and I’m excited and nervous. I love all your ideas on staying motivated. Thanks for the tips.

  34. I do consider organisation to be my biggest skill/talent. But I do struggle with motivation. Especially when it comes to blogging. Sometimes I put in so little effort which is bad. I’ll definitely use these tips to help up my motivation. Fingers crossed.

  35. I guess at the moment I’m so-so when it comes to motivation. I’m currently on top of my Bloglovin feed so reading all of the blogs ever, and I have scheduled content up to August, but otherwise I’m maybe struggling a bit with what I know still needs to be done.
I think maybe I need to give myself some time off.

  36. It’s so impressive how organised and motivated you are! I work 37.5 hours a week and have to try and fit in spending time with my boyfriend and my friends and family – and having time to myself to generally get everything else done! I get so tired so easily so I do find it hard to stay motivated sometimes.

I think I’m just going to write every single idea I have as a draft and save it on WordPress, then when I need to work on a post I can add notes to them to make the writing process easier!

  37. I’ve always wanted to be super organised, sometimes I am and then I’m pretty chilled! Loved the reference to Bree van de kamp!! Watching Desperate housewives as we speak haha x

  38. Hi Jenny,

Wow thanks for this motivational blog post. You are indeed incredibly organised and it is nice to have such an overview – and to realise at the same time – about where you are proud of and why it keeps you motivated to keep on blogging.
It inspired me to overthink my own blog and motivation behind it
Just a moment ago while writing this comment I realised I love blogging and mis the fact that I don’t feel super creative or inspirational these days due to ‘the-end-of-the-study-year-last-sprints’ pressure. I hope this feeling will come back soon because I write best – as in the way of I feel best to write and I am proud at that moment of what I write – when I feel inspired and have the urge to tell and write and so on. In short nowadays I feel a bit too tired in my busy busy mind, need a bit of piece and rest. Two more weeks and then the stress will be released and the summer holiday will start.
But thanks again for this motivational blog post!

    Greetings by Sophie

  39. Hey Jenny! 🙂

Super helpful tips! Kudos for your ability to schedule your content 2 months in advance — that’s incredible!

I’m not self-employed with my blog….yet. I’m a part-time blogger, learning as I go along and starting from nothing like most bloggers. But I’m on the road!

Congrats on your 6,000+ blog followers!! Omg, that’s amazing!

How long ago did you start blogging? Did you have prior knowledge/experience? At what point or # of followers did you know you could monetize your blog?

    Cheers,

    Chrissy

    1. I’ve been blogging about 5 years but seriously for about 3. I never had a set number of followers before I thought about monetizing. I didn’t really think about it at all, it happened naturally xxx

      1. Okay, that’s a good amount of time! So, you’ve gained a lot of experience and knowledge.

It’s always great when monetization opportunities arise naturally! 🙂
