If you’re hopelessly devoted to Sandy, Danny and the Grease gang, you might be aware that this year marks the 40th anniversary of the original movie, can you believe it?! The timeless film, with the lovable characters, dream-worthy outfits and catchy as heck songs came out 40 years ago and it’s time to celebrate that, don’t you think? Not many films gain the caliber that Grease did and will hold up as one of the most loved movies of all time. I would definitely pop it in maybe my top 10 favourites and you can bet your bottom dollar that I know every last word to We Go Together (like rama lama lama ka dinga da dinga dong). Here’s some fun as heck things you can do to celebrate the 40th anniversary this year!

Have a movie night with friends!

I find Grease to be a great film to watch with people. Don’t tell me you don’t burst into song?! Arranging a cozy movie night in with friends, snacks, pajamas and have a good old sing-song!

Or just chill and watch the movie alone

If you don’t have the time or aren’t able to plan a night in with friends then don’t miss out, have a self-care evening and watch the film alone with your favourite takeaway and a glass of whatever takes your fancy!

Find events

Have a look locally to see if there are any celebratory events going on in your area! Redgrave Theatre which is part of Clifton College is a great example as they’re hosting a fancy dress singalong to celebrate*!

Visit a diner / drive in movie theatre / fairground

The iconic locations in the movie, including the fairground at the end, the diner where Sandy and Danny have their date and the infamous drive in movie theatre scene are all super fun places to visit at the best of times!

Have a pamper night

Frenchy may have been a beauty school drop-out but you don’t have to be! The perfect time to have a pamper night, either with friends, yourself or your Mum is while watching Grease belting along to Look at Me I’m Sandra Dee!

Make Grease themed cupcakes

I think the colour that I would associate with Grease is pink… wouldn’t you? If you’re planning a Grease themed celebration then cupcakes need to be part of the occasion. I made these super pink ones earlier in the year which would work perfectly!

Are you a fan of Grease? Who’s your favourite character? Let me know!

  1. I love Grease so much! I remember watching it when it had it’s 20th Anniversary. My friend recorded it off the tv onto a tape and we would spend most weekends watching it. I still know all of the songs off-by-heart! My favourite character was always Rizzo.

  2. I can’t believe Grease is 40 years old. Such a classic film, definitely a comfort movie that always cheers me up! I wish we had a singalong version near me, I’d be there in a heartbeat!

  3. I used to love Grease so much! I still do and hope to perform in the show one day. I love all the ideas you have shared especially a movie night or visiting a diner! I love American Diners as they always give off such a great vibe!

  4. I loooove grease! It’s mt number one favourite film in the whole world. I’ve seen it at the theatre about 1837374 times!!

  5. Already 40 years? Time goes so fast!
My mother made me discover Grease when I was like 6, since then I’m addicted to it! I could watch it every day, it makes me so calm and happy. Along with Dirty Dancing (that I consider to be one), it’s my favourite musical!
Each time I watch it, I can’t help but liking Kenickie a little bit more. I wish he had more on-screen time!

  6. Grease is my ultimate comfort movie. I would say it is my favourite musical but I can’t decide between that and Hairspray. I saw Grease 2 for the first time a few weeks ago and it was good but not as good as the original.
