For me, Summer is definitely a time to make sure I can feel as good as possible. It’s no secret that I actually hate Summer; I cant handle the heat, it makes me anxious and often leaves me feeling ill. I also don’t enjoy sneezing 400 times a day and being a general snotty mess from May till September. But alas, I have to endure it like everyone else but at least this time of year makes me want to drink more water, eat more fruit, cut out more meat and just generally consume more healthier products. So you know, you win some, you lose some.

Indigo Herbs have kindly sent me some products to feature in this post today so I’m going to start with their Organic Matcha Tea Powder. Completely organic, 100% Vegan and containing a ton of vitamins including A, K, C, B2, B6, Folate, Potassium, Magnesium and Iron, on one of the hottest days of this year so far, I tested out this blend along with the juiciest Nectarine I’ve ever eaten.

Organic Matcha Tea Powder

Indigo Herbs Organic Matcha Tea Powder 50g – £11.99 *

I don’t tend to stray far from your regular English builders tea; I’m very British and grew up drinking “normal” tea. But I’m well aware of the benefits of green, herbal and fruity teas and they’re something I’d love to drink more. The Organic Matcha Tea Powder is a vibrant green which signifies high quality and natural ingredients to me. The package says you can use anywhere from half a teaspoon to 2 teaspoons of the powder, infused in a cup of boiling water, depending on taste preferences. I opted for around 3/4 of a teaspoon for my first try.

It’s definitely a strong blend and personally, I could have done with a little bit less. But I guess that’s not a bad thing because the packet will last longer! It’s definitely a taste which will take some getting used to but I think that’s the general consensus will herbal teas. It’s a flavor I could definitely get used to eventually and experiment with as I would love to gain the benefits from green teas in my lifestyle. If you regularly drink green tea, I’d highly recommend this!

Organic Virgin Coconut Oil

Indigo Herbs Organic Virgin Coconut Oil 500ml – £4.99 *

I was also send their Organic Virgin Coconut Oil which I was really excited to try. I took to Twitter after receiving this product to see what some people used coconut oil for, knowing the versatility of the product, I wanted to see the range of answers I received. I was overwhelmed with the response to this tweet and some of the uses people mentioned were:

  • Teeth whitening
  • Cooking
  • Bites and rashes
  • Baking
  • Dry scalp
  • Hair mask
  • Make-up remover
  • Shaving relief
  • Sugar body scrub

Obviously the uses are endless but I couldn’t try everything before writing this post so I had a little pamper last Sunday and included this Coconut Oil into my routine. I started by using it as a hair mask; I popped some on the bottom half of my hair for around 30 minutes then washed my hair as normal afterwards. You barely needed any of the product to really oil up your hair which again, is great because this will last.

I thoroughly enjoyed having my hair smell like a Bounty Bar for 30 minutes – the smell of this oil is absolutely gorgeous, although only if you like coconut! – and whilst I waited, I also made myself a little sugar scrub, by mixing in a teaspoon of granulated sugar in with some oil, which I’ll get to in a bit. So anyway, I washed my hair as normal and it definitely felt soft afterwards. Using coconut oil as a hair mask is defintiely something I’ll be introducing into my routine.

Onto the scrub! It took a little while to get the correct consistency of sugar to oil, one second it was too runny, the next it was too solid. But once you get it right, you’ll know, as it should feel like any other exfoliating scrub you’ve probably used before. Soft enough to spread but not too runny that it’ll slide off. It was kinda fun and made me feel a bit like a scientist doing an experiment haha!

I popped the scrub on problem areas, such as my elbows and knees as well as areas where I’ve had fake tan build up over the Summer which hasn’t come out yet. You know what I mean, the awful patchy areas which the fake tan sticks too, even after the rest of it has washed off. I was hoping that maybe the oil might lift the patchiness a little. Again, I couldn’t help but notice how absolutely glorious the smell was but it was nice to use to pamper myself with a bit before I hopped in the shower and washed it off.

I think the coconut oil will be a game changer for me, going forward. Definitely my favourite out of the two products; you just can’t beat a product which is so versatile, smells so good and is so good for you in so many ways!

Superfoods are something I really want to introduce into my diet and lifestyle more. Over the last few years I’ve become much more into my Yoga, meditation, cutting out meat and attempting to eat more healthier so superfoods would be the natural next step for me in that journey. Indigo Herbs are your one stop shop for high quality superfoods, with really reasonable prices and a fantastic website which offers guides, recipes and tips.

What superfoods do you include in your diet / lifestyle? Any that you’d recommend? What do you use Coconut Oil for? Let me know!

      1. The vinegar? I drink it! Helps with the metabolism. This also might sound TMI but since it’s the summer I’ll share: soak your feet in it (mixed with water) and it helps soften the rough skin so you can get rid of it.

  4. I’ve recently had my iron tested, and it was way too low, again. So, I’ve been trying out Spirulina. It tastes like I think grass would, because its algae. But the benefits make it worth it. Also, add this in small doses to smoothies, or you’ll never stick to this one… Also, Macha powder is a great hormone balancer. I love chia seeds (this one is versatile), you can add this to salads, smoothies, even make jam with it. I love coconut oil for my dry scalp, it works wonders (this happens when I get too much dairy products in, but I love cheese…) 🙂

  5. superfoods are defo something i am trying to add into my diet more and more and a post like this really helps with awareness of what we could and should be eating to be our healthiest versions of ourselves!
