Despite being the type of person that’s always working on something, sometimes in the dead of Summer it gets far too hot to be able to lift a finger. I tried to take blog photos in the UK’s 31 degree heat the other day and I nearly died. 10/10 would not recommend. And if you’re in the UK right now you’ll be very much aware that we’re in the middle of one of the longest, hottest periods some of us have probably ever seen! Whether you love it or hate it, we all need those super lazy Summer Days where the only thing we achieve is the ultimate Summer selfie: sunglasses, cute messy bun, headphones (such as a pair of the super glamorous rose gold Beats Headphones) and a glass of Prosecco. Cos damn… it’s too hot to do anything else.

A really good book

I think I get more reading done in the Summer than any other time of year because it requires zero bodily effort but it a pleasant, enjoyable past-time which can be done almost anywhere. It’s also ideal for a book reviewer, like me. Because when it’s too hot to do any other work, at least I can get my books read! I’m currently reading The Immortalist by Chloe Benjamin which I think is a perfect Summery read but any book will do!

A glass of something yummy

First rule of Summer: stay hydrated. Dehydration can completely ruin your entire day so even when all you’re doing is laying in your garden / in the park / on the beach doing nothing, you still need to keep your gorgeous self hydrated! I love water and drink absolutely loads of it on a daily basis but I like to mix it up every now and again and go for something fruity with ice! And don’t forget, for every alcoholic drink, a glass of water!

Sun cream / bite spray / cooling spray / hay fever tablets

Because Summer is always as glamorous as everyone pretends it is on Instagram. It doesn’t matter whether you’re at a festival or in your garden, sun cream is always a must. Bite spray because who the heck wants a ton of ugly gnat bites messing up their flawlessly tanned legs (fake or otherwise). Cooling spray has been an absolute game changer for me this year. And hay fever tablets because it’s not Summer without sneezing 400 times a day, is it?!

Headphones and good music

I couldn’t even tell you the amount of hours I’ve spent sitting in my garden, on our swinging chair, on a Summer’s day just listening to music. When you’ve got absolutely nothing else to do, it’s actually a really nice activity to just switch off and give your mind a break! Think of it as musical meditation. A pair of Beats Headphones are the perfect high-quality, comfortable type of headphones you need for your lazy day. I particularly love the violet and matte rose gold ones!

Fruit

I hate Summer but I love how the hot weather makes me more inclined to eat more fruit. I love fruit anyway but I feel like I have to sometimes force myself to eat it when I’d much rather reach for a chocolate bar. But in the Summer, fruit is quick and easy to grab, doesn’t melt and is super refreshing and heat makes me want all the fruity flavours!

What are your ultimate essentials for a lazy Summer day?

  1. Love this list – for me I’ve found myself spending more time listening to things than reading this summer! Usually I read a lot but the sunshine hurts my head so I can’t really focus on a book. Podcasts and music have been a staple for me the last few weeks, but my iPhone headphones are on the outs. I really want to get some Beats headphones! They are stunning but I reckon I’ll have to save up, haha!

  2. My to be read list is so long but within that list I’m always so lost on where to start because all the books I’ve written down sound like they’d be great! One thing I’ve been doing a lot of this summer is drinking water – I usually drink about 5 bottles a day!

Sun cream is an actual life saver – I must put it on before going to exercise in the morning, walking around – have to keep my skin protected at all times.

I can definitely relate to fruit being my number one snack – always so refreshing to eat in the summer!

I’d say my ultimate essentials are a good book, laptop for some coding and a good playlist to bop along to!

  3. Cannot agree more! I have taken to listening to audiobooks as I couldn’t get comfy with the sunbathing and book reading position. Currently listening to Big Little Lies.

  4. I love the time I can spend outdoors in the summer, in my garden and exploring the countryside. Cooling coconut body spray, a good SPF, lots of cold water, swishy skirts with pockets, sunglasses, sandals & salads!

  5. Water. I could drink our tap out of the water at the moment! Looks like the heatwave is hitting Finland next🙈 it’s been over 30’C in Lapland. LAPLAND! 😂

    lots of love, Jasmin

  6. Sounds like you have it all covered ! I completely agree with the repellant, nite spray and hay fever stuff, the gnats love to feast on me and I’ve never known hay fever so bad as it has been this years!
A good book is essential for any lazy day 😃
Another fabulous post as always Jenny!

  7. Being chronically ill summer and winter are chaos for me! Your post has reminded me I need to Impliment a self care pack for extreme weathers!

    Thanks 💖

  8. I’m the same with reading in the summer, I think it’s all the extra time I have to enjoy the little things. Fruit in the summer is such a nice treat, all the berries available make my mouth water. They make drinking water all the more tasty too! Great post and I love the flatlay for it too!

      1. It went from cold to blazing hot here. That was part of the problem, no transition time. It will be hot here too next week, A storm is coming up the eastern coast so it generally turns the weather cooler. Occasionally, more humid.

  9. Sitting in a swinging chair in your garden on a sunny day listening to music sounds like perfection. I need to find some of this cooling spray, it’s just too hot on some days! The good thing about summer is that I drink more water too, sparkling is my fave! Great post Jenny 💖 xx
