Some things I sorta kinda like about myself

I don’t mean to sound awfully dramatic but this is a really difficult post for me to write. I’ve opened up about my mental health and self-esteem problems before so if you wanna catch up with all that jazz, then check out this post and this post. But today I’m writing something I never thought I’d write and something I actually don’t really want to write but feel like maybe I should? I dunno. It’s complicated. Basically, I’m going to try and wrack my brain for some things I sorta kinda possibly might like about myself and explain why.

If, like me, you suffer with self-esteem issues, confidence issues or body dysmorphia type issues, you will wholeheartedly understand how difficult this is going to be when you probably, like me, spend every single day ripping yourself apart. I’m going to do my best and if you’re in the same boat as me, I urge you to give this a go yourself. Phew, okay. Here goes.

I’m organised

If you’re a regular here, you’ll know this about me already but I am an extremely organised person. Monica Gellar-esque type organised. In almost every aspect of my life, I like to be on the ball, ahead of schedule with everything sorted out. I’m writing this post on 10th June, if you need some context. And although this probably can be a bit annoying especially when I try and organise everyone’s lives (ugh, I’m STILL criticizing myself), i’m quite proud of my organisational skills.

I’m giving

The next two probably go hand in hand but I think I’m quite a giving person and I think that’s a good thing. I like to donate to charity when I can, I go out of my way to help people with things and I probably take on more than I can chew if it means helping someone else. I think this is a good quality to have, even though I don’t always get the thanks I feel I deserve.

I’m empathetic

I’m also very emphatic and sympathetic and I feel other people’s emotions a lot. This hasn’t always been a positive as it can sometimes affect me so much that I end up in a depressive state but in general, I like that I can respect and empathize with people’s emotions and things that are happening in the world. I’m a fairly emotional person, generally, so that probably stems from that.

I’m open minded

I like this about myself a lot because I’m very open minded to ideas, stories, theories and just generally learning new things. I’m not one of these people to shut someone down for mentioning something I think I don’t believe in. I love to learn new things and I’m interested in stuff. I want to welcome new, exciting things into my life so I allow my mind to remain open in order for that to happen.

For example, before I met my boyfriend, I had no idea what Formula 1 even was. He’s the biggest fan I know so although he never sat me down and said “watch this”, I gradually caught snippets of it over the first few months and it piqued my interest. And now I’m a huge fan and would never miss a race, I own models of the cars, have team-wear and like to spend days at a Formula 1 museum and various racing events!

So, there we have it. A few things that I kinda like about myself. I know this isn’t much but it’s a huge step for me and I’m proud for having made the effort to actually write these out. If you’d like to do a post similar to this, please do and link me to it as I’d love to read it! Or just let me know in the comments below some things you like about yourself!

  13. I can totally relate to you about self-esteem @__@. It’s a neverending battle but a battle worth fighting for! I love these things you like about yourself! Being organized is so important because when you need to look for something, you’re not scrambling all over the place to find it. It’s great to be giving; sometimes, people need a helping hand for something you’re great at! It helps the world go round (figuratively). Being open-minded goes a long way. Nothing worse than hearing someone shoot others down for whatever reason @__@. Thanks for sharing these positive vibes!

  23. Aw Jenny! I’m totally with you on this. I honestly don’t think I find enough things I like about myself to write something like this. I have a good eye. I’m strong willed. But that’s kind of a negative too. Well done for writing this! I love that you found things in your personality that you like about yourself x

    1. I don’t think that’s a negative at all 🙂 I’d love to hear your own answers personally! xxx

  24. I know what it’s like having little self confidence, and so I know this probably won’t mean much to you, but based on what I’ve seen on the internet you are such a lovely amazing person! You are One of the most helpful people I know, especially as a bigger blogger, and you have such a great work ethic! I’m so in awe of your organisation as a fellow organisation junkie haha, I can only wish that one day I’m on your level! I’m glad you were able to recognise and acknowledge at few of the very many good things about yourself!
