AD // Medicine is an extraordinary thing, there’s no denying that. This post is in no way, shape or form trying to declare that natural is the *only” way to achieve wellness or the only way to treat illness. That would be incredibly dangerous of me to make such claims. I believe in science and I also believe in the powers of nature and natural remedies for wellness as well and I don’t see why they can’t work together harmoniously for us to lead healthy and happy lives.

natural rememdies for wellness

As I get older and a bit more aware of my body, I’m definitely more in tune with what makes me feel “well” and I’ve become more and more aware of the natural remedies which make me feel in peak form compared to say, when I was a teenager and didn’t really understand the effects of a good diet, exercise and natural remedies.

I also have experience of natural remedies for wellness when it comes to my mental health. When I was first diagnosed with anxiety, I was adamant that I didn’t want to take anxiety medication. So I opted for natural remedies instead, which I actually really enjoyed using. Eventually I ended up on medication, which works for me now.

Now, I’m very much in the camp of using natural remedies for wellness to compliment everything else. Nature and the power of our own bodies is so beneficial in boosting your well-being and helping you feel like the best possible version of yourself!

Here are 5 suggestions of natural remedies for wellness:

Getting enough good quality sleep

The age old “cure” for anything… sleeping. I love my sleep but good quality sleep isn’t something I experience often. I get awful leg and hip pain in the night, maybe due to my own body or maybe due to my mattress (who knows?) and I rarely wake up feeling refreshed. I’ve started going to sleep earlier and waking up earlier, which is definitely working for me though. Getting the recommended hours of sleep is a great way to start your natural wellness journey!

Drinking enough water

And the second most obvious point, is drinking enough water and staying hydrated. Thankfully in the Western world, water isn’t of short supply and it’s the most accessible thing we can consume to improve and keep up our well being.

Exercise

This is a tricky one because it thoroughly depends on the individuals capabilities, disabilities, environment and fitness level but that’s the great thing about exercising, is that it’s never one glove fits all. Yoga is my go-to exercise and every time I get on my mat, I know I’m improving my well being. Whether I’m doing a weight-loss, sweaty an fat burning practice or some gentle stretches.

Fresh air and daylight

The world around us can definitely improve our wellness in the forms of fresh air and vitamin D among other things! I always try and get outside at least once a day – which is difficult because I work from home and don’t often have a reason to leave the house – but can also be difficult for those working in an office all day. Just 10 to 20 minutes of being outside and do you a world of good!

Diet: Natural remedies for wellness in herbs

We all know that a balanced diet, enough fruit and vegetables and water are good for us – that’s more or less drilled into us from a very early age. But herbs which you can find in plenty of food or even grow in your house have a surprising amount of natural benefits to them!

I find in fascinating how many properties these herbs have because most of them are incredibly common that most of us will probably encounter every day. I know I walk past a ton of lavender plants every day because my next door neighbors have them outside their house. I also love oregano, basil, sage and parsley in my food and I’m trying to get into drinking more herbal teas – like chamomile too!

The herbs on this list that I’d like to try and introduce into my myself are Echinacea because of it’s immune boosting functions and Peppermint for it’s ability to help muscle and nerve pain and ingestion (which I get quite a lot!) 1. I really like that you are using natural remedies for anxiety! I also struggle with anxiety and find that essential oils are very helpful. This really peaks my interest in trying herbs as well and more herb based essential oils!

  2. I love aromatherapy and making the most of essential oils by diffusing them or applying them topically in cosmetic products. Oils are more concentrated than herbs and can help improve mood and general well being while scenting your house or office. One of the things I love the most is to play with scents and blends. For example, as Christmas is approaching, I like to create a special atmosphere by diffusing a mix of orange and cinnamon oils. It smells like mulled wine and I find the scent very uplifting!
Generally, I like to take a holistic approach to health, including food, good sleep and relaxation, exercise, aromatherapy. Health is a matter of balance 🙂

  3. I use a lot of of herbs and spices in my cooking and also in my magical practice! I’m really into turmeric right now, because it’s so easy to use and tastes great in almost anything. I love its anti-inflammatory properties, making it a good addition to chicken soup if you’ve got a cold or the flu!

I also use a lot of garlic, cilantro, thyme, and Korean red pepper.

  4. I love the graphics in this post! They’re beautiful. And I agree with all of these-ive been trying to get sleep and it’s been so helpful!
