I love my sleep and I always have done and although I love getting up early, a quality night’s sleep is really important to me to be able to function. The days of going to bed at 4am and waking up at noon are long gone (so has my carefree, fun attitude but there you go!) but I definitely put an even bigger importance on my bed and my sleeping routine now that I’m a bit older. For years now, I’ve not slept through the night without waking up multiple times. I can’t remember the last time that ever happened and I’ve just learnt to accept that my body just doesn’t allow me to sleep straight through anymore. What hasn’t helped over the last few years is my mattress which at the time of throwing it away, literally had springs sticking out of it. It’s a surprise I didn’t impale myself in my sleep.
Thank you to Leesa for sponsoring today’s post!
So with that being said, Leesa contacted me at just the right time. I’ve known I’ve needed a new mattress for months now but in all honesty, I’ve not had the money to buy one nor the patience to look for the right one for me. Mattresses can be a big deal in finding one which suits you as there’s so many different styles, fabrics and the materials to chose from.
The Leesa mattress arrives in a box (huh? I hear you say), in extremely tight vacuumed air locked packaging which makes the mattress itself during delivery a fraction of its actual size when it’s taken out. This is a really nifty idea because I’ve had mattresses delivered before which have required 2 delivery men to actually bring it into the house.
Once taken out of the box and the plastic packaging, it slowly inflates to it’s actual size and that’s really all there is to it! What makes the Leesa mattress premium is it’s 3 layered build, with a thick core support foam base, a thick layer of pressure relieving memory foam and topped with a 5cm cooling Avena foam which provides air flow. Leesa claim that their mattresses don’t make you as hot as normal memory foam and it’ll be the air flow element which does the trick.
Another wonderful thing about Leesa is how environmentally and charity friendly they are and for every 10 mattresses they sell, they donate one to charity that support the homeless, domestic abuse and human trafficking. So far, Leesa have donated over 30,000 mattresses to charities worldwide. They also plant a tree for every mattress that’s sold and aim to plant one million trees by 2025.
So what did I think?
On first test, it felt a lot firmer than I expected but you almost slowly sink into it. It’s clearly very high quality as a lot of memory foam mattresses just kinda drop you into your mold but Leesa almost molds itself around you gradually. But overall, it’s pretty damn wonderful!
I still don’t sleep through the night but that can be for a variety of reasons, not the quality of the mattress. However, I’ve suffered from horrible hip and leg pain in the night almost every night for years and I have noticed that that has pretty much disappeared since sleeping on the Leesa mattress, which is amazing because it was so painful. I never thought that I’d find anything which got rid of it and whilst yes, I still wake up with the odd ache every now and again, the improvement from the pain I suffered before is ten-fold.
The only tiny negative would be that there’s quite a strong smell for the first 1 or 2 days, which is probably just from the mattress being packaged up and new but it almost smells like paint? Which is weird but that fades and before long, there’s no smell at all.
Tips for a better night’s sleep
Temperature: Being too hot is the number 1 ingredient for having a rubbish night’s sleep so it’s important to get your room to a comfortable temperature an hour or so before bedtime and then get yourself to a comfortable temperature when you hit the hay. This will be different for everyone and personally, I can’t sleep with cold feet so I always wear socks to bed. But if I get too hot throughout the night, I’ll kick them off.
Organisation: I always create a to do list for the following day before I go to bed, otherwise I’ll be laying awake thinking of all the stuff I have to do tomorrow and won’t actually sleep until I’ve written in down anyway. Or if you’re going away the following day, I always find it helps to know everything is already packed to get the best night’s sleep possible with stress or worry.
Try and avoid picking up your phone: I know it’s tempting to want to scroll though Twitter when we’re laying in bed unable to sleep but the light from your phone will do the exact opposite of what you want and keep you awake for longer.
Relax: Having a relaxing, warm bath or shower with some nice smellies is a great remedy for setting you up for a fabulous night’s sleep. Putting on freshly washed pajamas and jumping into freshly washed bed sheets afterwards is as close to perfect as you’re going to get! Or a relaxing, gentle Yoga practice before bed can offer the same effects.
Invest in a high quality mattress: Just like the Leesa one! And luckily for you, I’m also offering you a discount code to receive £100 off your order of your very own Leesa mattress! Use the code: JENNYNEVERLAND at the checkout to get £100 off any sized Leesa mattress.
What other tips would you give to get a great night’s sleep? What’s your bedtime routine? Have you tried the Leesa mattresses? Let me know!

I bought a bed in a box (different company) and it was honestly one of the BEST purchases ever!!
Amazing aren’t they!
That mattress sounds lovely! I’m going to need a new mattress soon, but I keep putting it off. 😂 As hard as it is, staying off my phone before bed really does help! I find I always fall asleep faster and have a more restful sleep if I stay off my phone about an hour before bed. I really need to update my phone so I can use the screen time app, because it sounds like just what I need!
The screen time app has been really helpful! 🙂
It sounds lovely. I love a memory foam mattress. They are quite firm initially I find.

This one has stayed pretty firm but it’s still so comfortable
I’m very intrigued that this comes in a box!
It’s really handy!
I’m definitely overdue a new mattress and this one sounds amazing! That’s such a generous discount code too, thanks for sharing Jenny 🙂

That sounds awful, sorry to hear that!
I need a new mattress and these sound perfect! x
Would highly recommend one of these!
This mattress sounds awesome. I just purchase mattress a few months ago though.
That’s a shame! These are amazing.
Sleep is very essential. Having a mattress like this will help you sleep well and be comfortable. I love your blog. Keep doing blogs like this. 🙂
Love the tips!
Is the mattress comfortable if you’re sitting up? I like to study in bed)
Sure is! I do a lot of work in bed 🙂
The to-do list is really important! I can’t put my mind to bed until I’ve prepped it for the next day.

Same! I think about it until I’ve done it.
I could definitely use a new mattress. My mattress is SO old.
Old mattresses can wreck havoc on your body!
This sounds good! Sleep is so important and most people are not able to get a full night’s sleep. Me being one of them.
Me being another one haha! It’s so difficult.
That mattress sounds like a dream to sleep on! I absolutely love the idea of mattresses being delivered in boxes too 😂. Great post!
Haha it was a real novelty but was fun!
This mattress looks pretty good! And that packaging too, that’s so much better than having to get a massive mattress through the font door! I love your tips as well for a better nights sleep, there’s nothing better than getting into a bed that’s been freshly washed and made!!

Yeah the box element was so handy!
I’m not usually one for memory foam (I’m one of the odd ones that doesn’t find it comfortable haha) but I must admit this does sound good 🙂 Also I love the fact that it comes in a box, that’s so practical!!xxx

My boyfriend hated memory foam too… He LOVES this!
I find it pretty cool how they are able to make a mattress fit into a small box like that! This mattress does sound like it would be great – my boyfriend keeps going on about how we need to get a new one, haha. What a good time to read this! I was having quite a few problems with sleeping throughout the night too until recent, I’m not sure what’s really changed though. You’ve shared some great tips, I always find it so useful getting everything ready the night before. Especially for work, with clothes and such. Makes the mornings a lot easier and can get a bit of extra sleep 😂

If you can afford one of these, I’d definitely recommend it!
great review! I have always been curious about beds in a box! This one looks absolutely lovely, I just bought a new mattress little over a year ago and having a quality mattress is so important. I also love your tips for a good night sleep, I need to get better at not using my phone right before bed because it really does deminish your quality of sleep. lovely post jenny xx

I’m using the screen time app on my phone to cut off social media after 9pm and it’s really helping!
Interesting that you said this is different to regular memory foam because I HATE soft foamy mattresses. Amazing that this is contributing to a better nights sleep for you even if you’re not sleeping through and the pain going?! Incredible. I’m a bit concerned that this helps cool you down though, I’m always freezing! x

I mean, it doesn’t make you freezing. It just doesn’t make you any hotter than what you’re already going to get, like a lot of other memory foams do!
I definitely need a new mattress but like you also found, I don’t have the money at the moment. I think this one could be a good investment though and will give a good nights rest for years to come ☺️ your tips for having a better sleep are so useful too – I always find myself reaching for my phone and it’s such a bad habit. Trying to stop doing that so much. Great post as always Jenny, thank you for sharing xx
Such a bad habit but so hard to break!
I love the fact that it comes in a box, like that I’d is great!! We’ve been meaning to get a new mattress, but its just too much effort going mattress shopping and then getting it into a first floor flat! Definitely going to look into the Leesa mattress!

These would be ideal if you’re in a flat too, with it coming in a box! Please do use my link and discount code if you do decide to! 🙂

I’d heard of the Leesa mattresses before, but hadn’t looked too closely at them – I will be in the market for a new bed eventually so I might give this a try!
I’m gonna have to save up for one though, since $750 USD is a little steep for me. I wonder what their longevity is like?
I’ll let you know, when I’ve had mine for a while.
The mattress sounds nice and I will check them out when I need a new one xx
It’s amazing!
That Leesa mattress sounds like heaven!
It really is like sleeping on a cloud!
Ahh we’re desperate for a new mattress so this was brilliant to read! I keep hearing good things about Leesa but so far I’ve not been 100% sure who to go with. A good nights sleep is so important and this looks so comfortable xx

I’d definitely recommend them! They’re SO comfortable! xxx
I always try to stay away from my phone to get a better nights sleep!

I’ve started using the Screen Time app to cut off social media from 9pm onwards! xxx
I’ve heard amazing things about Leesa mattresses but we’d need a king size which is just completely out of our budget, unfortunately. I suffer from back pain due to a slipped disc and Alan gets a stiff neck and hip too. I’m pretty sure our mattress isn’t helping but at the moment there are too many other things we need to buy so a new one is slipping further down the list 🙁 In the meantime, I’ll just have to follow your tips for a better night’s sleep – leaving the phones downstairs would be a great start, haha! x
Lisa | http://www.lisasnotebook.com
My hip pain has reduced dramatically since getting this mattress so even if one of these ones are out of your budget, your current mattress probably isn’t helping! I didn’t realise how much harm my old one was actually doing xxx
A new mattress sounds like heaven, it sounds like this Leesa mattress hugs your body.
Oh gosh, yes, putting down your phone. I’m terrible for scrolling endlessly instead of sleeping, and then the blue light makes it harder for me to fall asleep when I do put my phone down! I like to spray a little lavender around before bed to help me unwind.

I’ve started using the screen time app and it cuts off all social media from 9pm and it’s helping loads!
