Back in October of last year, the wonderful Jasmine from Thoughts With Jasmine, created a brand new tag post for us bloggers to get our teeth stuck into. I’ve done more or less every tag under the sun over the years of having this blog but they’re not really something I do anymore but… I absolutely loved the sound of this one that Jas has created because it’s something I’ve learnt a lot about, feel passionate about and want to help encourage people to be more transparent about because it’s certainly a topic that I’ve found a lot of bloggers are still incredibly cagey about.
And that would be working with brands and PR’s, making money and sponsored posts. Ugh. Seriously guys, we’re in 2019, everyone knows that bloggers get paid for certain posts, WHAT is the big deal? Do you make a fuss every time Nicole Scherzinger graces your TV with yet another yogurt advert? Didn’t think so.
I’ve always been open about working with brands and where I find blogging opportunities. I’ve done various posts about it in the past (like this one, this one and this one) and I plan to do another one sometime soon with very specific links to places where you can find blogging opportunities. There’s more than enough to go around my friends! So thank you to Jas for the tag in this! Enjoy my answers and if you’d like to have a go, consider yourself tagged!
Do you remember the first brand you worked with? When, how and what was it?
I’m pushing my luck trying to remember here but I believe it was this sponsored post with Quorn back in 2016! They got in touch with me via email.
How do you get the majority of your PR opportunities?
To be honest, I probably get most of them from applying to things and putting myself out there. Of course there are always some that approach me through email but I put myself out there a lot, so that’s how I get them!
Are there any brands you work with on a repeat basis? How did that happen?
Not brands but there are a few PR agencies that I’ve worked with multiple times. Building up a good relationship with PR’s is really useful for this reason and it usually happens by working with them once and building a good, friendly, mutually beneficial rapport which will allow the conversation to flow more easily and it’s much easier to contact each other going forward with any other opportunities.
Who has been your favourite brand to work with and why?
Oh, so many! Some stand out brands would have to be bakerdays (because they’re so amazing with their blogger outreach and their cakes are just banging), Jewellery Box (for the same reason and they have such a gorgeous range of pieces) and xylondon (who I worked with 3 times last year and their PR lady is just wonderful and always so appreciative of the posts!)
Who has been your least favourite brand to work with? What did they do? (Give a vague description but naming isn’t needed)
Apart from a PR company who hasn’t paid me since August, I honestly haven’t had a particularly awful experience with any brand and I’m incredibly grateful for that. Although there has been little things like a brand telling me the day after I’d scheduled my post and spend over 7 hours making their product that they were closing and wouldn’t require a review anymore (face palm).
Has there been anything big that you’ve perhaps reluctantly turned down because you knew it wasn’t right for you?
Big, no. However, there’s been plenty of emails from people asking if they could work with me for no budget that I’ve quite rightly turned down.
What’s your favourite kind of PR to receive? (e.g. food, beauty, fashion)
Tough question! I love reviewing anything food-related. I love food as it is so being sent food is a dream. I also love receiving gift type items, which would fit well in gift guides.
What would be your dream brand collaboration?
Disney, hands down!
This was very interesting! Also, yes a dream collab would be with Disney! A holiday to WDW perhaps.. Disney if you’re reading this, I’m in 😉
Haha! I’d faint if I was ever offered that. In my wildest dreams!
This is a really cute, fun tag and I love how open and honest you always are about your collaborations. You’re constantly killing it so it’s always great to get tips from you! To be honest I’m trying to do fewer collabs this year as I want my blog to stay quite personal but I’m getting to the stage of building up relationships with a few PR people and it’s really nice to get ‘repeat custom’ from them haha! I know that one day you’ll get that Disney collab – I mean, just look at your blog’s name! 🙂
Beth x
I like that too – some PR’s are great! Oh god it’s a pipe dream – hopefully one day!
Nice to see a good ol’ fashioned tag post! It was really interesting to hear some of your PR stories over the years and I really hope you carry on having great relationships with them! Definitely giving me a little push to keep plodding on with my own blog so I can maybe work with a brand one day. <3

Any brand would be lucky to work with you Dee! 💛
I love it when you build relationships with brands/agencies and even individuals where you can work with them regularly x
Totally!
Great tag! I couldn’t do something like this as I’ve not worked with enough brands!
Melanie || http://www.melaniewithanie.com x
I’m sure you will! Any brand would be lucky to work with you 😌
This is one of the better tags I’ve seen going around. It’s insightful.
Thank you 😌 (although cant take credit for it!)
Great post! And I agree that xylondon has an amazing PR team – they were a pleasure to work with!
They’re brilliant aren’t they!
It was great reading your answers! I had so much fun when I did this one myself. Your first collab was Quorn? That’s a fairly big one! Here’s to 2019 being the year of Disney! x

It sure was! I was a bit confused myself to be honest but it was a good post with a pretty yummy recipe! 😌
This was a great post as I’ve only worked with a couple of brands. I hope to work with more brands this year & I hope one day you can work with Disney!
Best of luck with it! Your blog is fab, any brand would be lucky to work with you 😌
Aw thank you so much! ❤
This was so eyeing opening and such a great read for me. I literally haven’t no clue when it comes to collaborations and PR. So you sharing this info has been a great help! I’m definitely going to work on putting myself out there this year x
Thank you! Glad you found it helpful too 😌
I’ve never seen this tag before, I really enjoyed reading it. I’m more than sure it’s going to help a lot of bloggers out. 🌸💜
With love, Alisha Valerie x | http://www.alishavalerie.com
Thank you x
I love this post! It’s so nice and refreshing to read an open post on PR. It can be a bit of minefield and as you say it’s not the easiest topic to get on among bloggers.
http://littlemissmelanie.com
Totally agree. Everyone has to learn and start somewhere and some people are so shady that it doesn’t help.
I haven’t reached out to a brand or anything since the first year I started blogging. I don’t feel confident enough, which is stupid that I had more confidence when I very first started than I do now in my third year of blogging.
It was really interesting and refreshing to read your honest answers. 🙂

Awh you totally should, your blog is fab!
It’s good to see an open and honest post about pr secrets! I couldn’t take part myself as I haven’t done that many sponsored posts but I’m hoping this year to be more brave and reach out. I hope you get that Disney collab!!

I hope so too! It’d be a dream. Good luck with it this year, put yourself out there, your blog is great! <3
Thanks for this post Jenny! It’s very enlightening. What do you do if a brand sends the product but later says they don’t want a review. If the brand is popular, won’t it be better to still write a post for your audience? What do you think? I’m going to check out those posts you linked at the top btw. Thank you ❤
Taiwo xx
I think it’s totally up to you. If you’re not required to do a review then obviously you don’t have to but if you still want to, still like the product and think your readers would too then go for it! <3
Yayyyy thank you so much for taking part! I loved reading your answers and I hope that one day you secure that Disney collab <3 I'm also trying to put myself out there at the moment and your one of the inspirations for it <3

Awh thank you so much! What a lovely thing to say. Sorry it took me so long to get around to doing it but it’s a great tag! <3
Thanks for a good post! Love when bloggers are honest and open about this stuff. I just started putting myself out there and am going to be contacting some brands. 😊
Good luck with it! <3
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing, it’s really interesting to see people’s experiences with bloggers.

Thank you for sharing, it’s really nice to get some Insight into PR for bloggers like me, that are a little scared to get out there! Thanks for your honesty xx
No need to be scared, the worst they can say is no! 🙂 xx
This is true, I just get nervous as I’m a very small part time blogger lol xx
Ahh how have I not seen this tag before?! I love Jasmine’s blog too, I can’t believe I’ve missed this! It’s such a bloody good tag, and one that’s definitely unique to the blogging industry as I haven’t seen anything like this anywhere before! Your answers (as always!) are so thorough and well thought out and I loved reading about your experience with working with various brands and PRs! xx

You should totally give it a go! I love Jas’ blog too, it’s brilliant. Thank you! 🙂 <3
My fav PR to receive it food related too! It is just the best! I have been working with a few of the same brands and loved seeing the relationship grow!
Food PR is the BEST! I have a whole bag of it at home and I can’t wait to get cooking <3
Thank you for sharing this! It’s really interesting to get an insight into how PR works for other bloggers, especially as a small blogger returning to the industry after a long hiatus!!
Andddd Disney would definitely be an insanely amazing company to work with, fingers crossed for you! 😀
Reema | http://www.aumsome.co.uk
It’s definitely interesting! I hope you found some use out of it too! Still crossing my fingers for Disney! <3
I’m still relatively new at this, so I really appreciated reading these thoughts. I guess it all comes down to putting yourself out there and doing a good job.
Totally. Bloggers should definitely put themselves out there because there’s so many of us all trying to achieve the same thing.
Building a good relationship with PR’s is definitely super important!
Love, Amie ❤

It really is!
Putting yourself out there and applying for opportunities that come up on twitter etc definitely helps – that’s how I find most of the sponsored opportunities I get. Great post! x

Thank you 😌 it never hurts to put yourself out there!
This was really helpful for someone who is fairly new to blogging and would like to get into working with brands, thank you!
You’re welcome 😌
This is a great post Jenny, I always love how open and honest you are about blogging opportunities, it is so refreshing to see! It sounds like you have worked with so many great brands, the bakerdays cakes always look so nice! I’m making an effort to put myself forward for more opportunities this year, what’s the worst that can happen 🙂 Also, keeping my fingers crossed that you get that Disney collab! Fab post <3 xxx
Bexa | http://www.hellobexa.com
Exactly, the worst they can say is no or not reply then you move on to the next 😌 I’m sure you’d get plenty! I’d want to work with you if I was a brand for sure! xxx
Ooh this was so interesting to read! I’d not heard of this tag before but I definitely want to give it a go myself now 🙊xx
Tiffany x http://www.foodandotherloves.co.uk
