AD | I will recommend the series Grace and Frankie on Netflix until I’m blue in the face. Not only is it highly entertaining, insanely funny, with lovable characters and is so easy to watch, it’s also incredibly poignant, emotional at times and provides you with a lot of valuable life lessons. In case you don’t know, Grace and Frankie is about 2 women in their late 70’s and early 80’s who find out their husbands are gay… and in a relationship with each other. Grace and Frankie are polar opposites in personality and lifestyle choices but are suddenly thrown together in this outrageous situation and forced to carry on with this new life they have to navigate.

In the 5 seasons currently out on Netflix, Grace and Frankie go through a multitude of ups and down and things they’d never expect. And with season 6 scheduled for release in 2020, it doesn’t look like it’s going to stop there for these two women! Having to navigate health issues, senior dating, business, grown up children and more, it’s not surprising that Grace and Frankie can provide us with a multitude of life lessons – both serious and not!

Sometimes, you’ve got to learn to accept help

With both women being older than 75 in Grace and Frankie, it’s inevitable that aging will play some part eventually on their lives and what they can and can’t do. There’s various situations where characters find themselves needing help and not wanting it. But it’s taught me that whatever your age and whatever your situation, accepting help is never, ever a bad thing.

You’re never too old to find love

I’m not sure many women in their 70’s and 80’s can relate to what Grace and Frankie go through but I’m sure a lot of them can relate to finding love at an older age and never giving up on the idea of love. In this day and age, where dating is easier than it’s ever been before, with websites and apps, Older Dating Online can be a doorway to finding love whatever your age! And I’ve loved seeing both Grace and Frankie navigate new relationships at an older age.

Opposites sometimes really do attract

Like I said, Grace and Frankie really are the polar opposite of each other. Grace is a smartly dressed businesswoman who likes her comforts and conveniences. Frankie is a free-spirited, shawl wearing, crystal healing Vegan who can’t even comprehend Grace’s lifestyle at time. But in the end, they couldn’t live without each other and they compliment each other perfectly. So it’s taught me that even if something seems like it might not be “for you” at first, still give it a go. Because you never know!

Class never goes out of style

Grace is the epitome of class. She is one of the most impeccably dressed and sophisticated women of any TV series and a completely style icon. Age? Who the heck cares. Class is class, whether you’re 20 or 80 and Grace and bundles and bundles of it. She taught me to take more pride in myself and my own appearance. That there’s no shame in caring about how you look and that your body is yours forever, take care of it!

You’re never too old to dream another dream

Grace and Frankie create their own company selling vibrators which have specific elements which cater for older women, who might not be able to grasp and use your regular vibrator as easily. First of all, what an incredible idea?! But second of all, these women, in their golden years, built a business from scratch. A successful business. Yes it’s dramatized and probably wouldn’t be quite so smooth sailing IRL but it’s still incredibly inspiring. Especially as someone in their mid-twenties who feels like they need to have everything figured out NOW.

You can adapt to almost anything

Having your marriage end at the age of 80 because your husband has been having an affair with a man for years would probably take a lot of adapting to. But within the series, there’s plenty of situations that a number of the characters have to learn to adapt to – not just Grace and Frankie but their ex-husbands and their children too. The series shows the ups and the downs and how it’s not always easy. But it also shows that humans can adapt. And that’s a nice message to go away with.

Do you watch Grace and Frankie and love it as much as I do? What life lessons have you learnt from the series?

  1. I love this! While I haven’t watched Grace and Frankie all the way through yet, I love the life lessons you have been able to take out of the show. I actually have a couple of blog posts similar to this about The Office and Arrested Development 🙂

  2. I stopped watching a while ago but I agree it’s a great show. It’s rare these days to have a show focused on older women. I don’t remember any since The Golden Girls.

  3. They sound like such lovely lessons to learn! I love the one about never being too old for love, that’s a cute thought. I’ve seen Grace & Frankie once or twice but never sat down to properly watch. I’ll have to add it to my list, you’ve made it sound like a great show x

  4. I LOVE Grace & Frankie, it’s such a good show. I can relate to the husband being gay, as my husband came out about 5 years ago. Ok, I’m somewhat younger but it’s still very relatable. I will say, I did handle it better than Grace & Frankie lol I also can relate to the whole needing help but being too proud to admit it. It did make me realise that no matter your age, sometimes you really need help and if anything, it takes strength to ask for it. 🙂

    Brilliant show though! 😀

    1. Hahaha they didn’t handle it brilliantly did they but it’s not surprising. Can’t imagine it’s something that happens too often but it’s kinda amazing that you have that personal connection to the show!

    1. I’m so glad you enjoy it! I didn’t watch it straight away, I just always glanced over it but an old friend from school recommended it so I gave it a go and I’m SO glad I did! 😌

  5. Grace and Frankie yes! I’ve binged watch the whole series and so tempted to rewatch. It hooked me immediately from the moment I started. It covers so many things yet makes you smile! Definitely has become one of my favourite series to watch.

    1. I was thinking about rewatching it from the beginning soon too! I love where the series has gone but by season 5, I kinda forgot where it all started and it certainly wasn’t rosy at the beginning!

  6. I’ve never even heard of this, but it’s going on the to-watch list – it’s such a good concept (and I need me some classy ladies 😂💚)

  7. Honestly I have never come across this, my viewing style is more of a teenage lad than middle aged woman that I actually am, think every comic style program, I assure you I watch it. But this is actually interesting, so I’m going to give it a go
