I talk about well-being a lot on my blog. Mostly about personal things we can do on a daily basis in order to improve our general well-being. Such as expressing gratitude, Yoga or journalling. Which are all super valid forms of self care which I’d highly recommend. Although our inner voice is the most important, our external environments can massively impact our well-being. What’s the one place most of us spend the most time? At home. It’s important to consider your environment when thinking about how to improve your well-being at home.

Improve Your Well-being at Home

Not everyone has a happy home. Sad but true. Not everyone’s home lives are perfect and stress-free and some of us have to work a little harder at home to ensure our well-being is at an optimum level. But there’s always ways you can improve your well-being at home. From tiny changes, to more significant ones.

Find a safe space

We all need and want to feel safe, whether that’s at home, at work or on holiday. But feeling on edge within your own home is the worst. So as well as doing the obvious things to ensure your safety – alarms, security measures etc, it’s also worth finding – or creating! – your own safe space to improve your mental well-being.

Utilize your garden or outdoor space

Getting fresh air, nature and a little sun can do wonders for our well-being (but don’t forget the sunscreen!) and the best way to achieve that is at home. If you have a garden, utilize that space. If you have anything less than a garden, work with what you have. Open windows, plant herbs for on your windowsill or buy a deck chair for a balcony!

De-clutter, organize and storage

I don’t know about you but when things are messy and unorganized, my mental well-being is usually down the pan. There’s a lot to be said for having a de-clutter every now and again. So make the time to throw stuff away – and be ruthless! – and also make use of storage you may have. Tidy home, tidy mind.

Use calming tones and colours

The way your home is decorated could really impact your mental and emotional well-being without you even knowing. Of course you have to include your personal tastes within your colours and decor but if the decor is making you on edge, try switching it up to tones which promote relaxation and balance.

Health boost: Megahome Water Distiller

I want to talk a bit about the Megahome Water Distillers, which from a physical and health point of view, are an amazing way to improve your overall well-being, especially at home, which is where your water distiller is likely to be. I was kindly sent one to try and test, so let’s get into my experience with this Megahome Water Distiller.

Megahome

Firstly, why should you use one?

Well, first of all, it removes all impurities from your water. For a more gruesome look at what’s ACTUALLY in your water, check out this video. Secondly, is distilled water crosses the gut membrane slightly better, therefore hydrating you EVEN MORE. And lastly, it tastes cleaner. Which is obviously really, being as there’s no crap in it.

My experience

I drink a shed load of water. Like, probably more than I really need to. And I can physically tell in my body when I’ve not drank enough. But of course, living near London, I’m not naive to the fact that our tap water isn’t the purest of water I could be drinking. So I know this distiller is going to be hugely beneficial for me.

The distillers come with everything you need – there’s no need to purchase any additional equipment in order for these to work. It produces 4 litres of pure water within 5-6 hours and comes with a handy glass jug which the water gets dripped into, entirely separating the pure water from the, well, manky water.

The glass jar is a really handy feature as it’s small enough to fit in the fridge (with some shoving) but also looks nice enough to leave out and allow people to help themselves. If on average, we should be drinking 2 litres of water each a day, then this distiller produces double the amount needed for a household of 4 – like us!

Another huge bonus was how easy it actually was to set up. I was a bit daunted at first but the instructions make it incredibly straight forward and it only took around 10 minutes!

The water itself, well, mum and I were both quite shocked with how it tasted. It tastes CLEAN. And compared to our regular tap water, tastes so light. We did a direct comparison and the tap water was so heavy that you could actually feel all the sh*t in it that shouldn’t be.

What ways do you ensure your mental, emotional or physical well-being is at it’s peak whilst you’re at home? Any neat tricks you have? And do you have a water distiller? Would you like one?

  1. I really need to do a big declutter on my home as it’s starting to properly stress me out! I also need to use my garden more – it’s quite big but I don’t spend much time in it. Living in Scotland, our tap water is really nice – we’re very lucky. I think if I moved elsewhere I’d definitely get a distiller though!

  2. This sounds great for anybody who drinks tap water! I have a water dispenser and the company I bought it from provides water, I can see how anybody else would benefit from having a water distiller.

  3. I’ve actually been thinking of getting something like this – we have over-chlorinated water where I live (though the council swear it isn’t) and I imagine this would make it more enjoyable to drink. Thanks for sharing!

  4. You’ve covered so many important aspects of self care and well being at home! Especially water! This is something that I could really do with tbh! I live in the middle of a valley where either side of me there is a chalk pit which of course, makes our water so chalky! It’s awful! I definitely need to invest in one of these 😭😂

    Thanks for sharing!

  5. Really good tips Jenny! I always end up de-cluttering if I’m in a bad headspace – although do wish I had an outside space to go to sometimes! x

  6. Interesting! My well-being definitely suffers at home because I don’t feel safe there.
I’ve never tried distilled water before – for some reason I thought it was really bad for you because too much would go into your cells or something (I feel like this was something I was told as a child to stop me drinking the distilled water Dad would bring home for the iron though).

I would very much like to know where they find petrol that is cheaper per litre than bottled water though! Less than 65p a litre of petrol?! Yes please!

  7. I totally agree that when I’m surrounded be mess I just can’t relax and recently I’ve been reorganising my flat and I feel so much better because of it. That water purifier sounds amazing, I’m definitely checking this out , I’m also kind of scared to see what the water looks like before! Great post x

  8. Some great tips here – I find that decluttering definitely helps me with my headspace and I can feel the difference when I do! I drink a lot of water but don’t actually have a water distiller somehow so perhaps this will be a good investment ☺️ thanks for sharing!

  9. I seriously need to de clutter. I know my mental well being would be much better for it.
The distiller is a good idea. I’m scared to think about what’s in our water. Are there special cleaning instructions for the distiller itself?

  10. Finding a safe/quiet place and de-cluttering is something I need to focus on. This post was really informative, I have been really enjoying your blog post lately(:

  11. I had one of these distillers too, it was a game changer – at least for me, Alan & Flora weren’t keen on taste-less water, the Philistines. Like you, I drink loads of water every day (and get headaches if I don’t) so this is definitely at the top of my healthy living list. So glad you and your mum love it too 🙂 X

    1. I get headaches if I don’t drink enough water too! We wouldn’t go back to drinking tap water again. I don’t get how you can’t like the taste, it doesn’t taste of anything haha!
