If your answer is yes to any of the questions above, then you need to read this as it will give you an insight into the things that you need to know before going to the hair salon – whether that’s a regular salon or a luxury hair extension salon.

Knowing what you want before you head into the hair salon will keep you brimming with confidence and the empowerment you need for the whole day. It also keeps you from leaving the salon in a bad mood and in an upset manner when your hair is cut wrong or colored improperly.

Here are some things you should learn before going into the hair salon:

  1. The first thing you need to know before heading into any hair salon is to know your hair texture and face shape. Each individual have different hair texture, some have it thin, others thick, curly, wavy, bob, or fine. It is also the same with your face shape, be it heart, oval, round, square or oblong shaped. Knowing this texture type and face shape helps give you and the stylist a pin-holed fine-tuned view of the hairstyle that will fit you. You don’t know your face type, here’s a tip, just take a look at your jawline.

  2. Be prepared to guide them with pictures on the exact style that you want. Your hair stylist is not clairvoyant and as such cannot tell just by looking at you and your hair the haircut you want to get. You have a style that you want to be replicated with your hair, then download loads of pictures of it. Try bringing in pictures from the internet; Pinterest, Instagram, and other sites. Remember, that the more pictures you bring in, the more guide you provide for your stylist and the more accurate the result turns out to be.

  3. Be prepared to come back. Getting your hair in the desired result you want it to be is not going to be done in a few hours. You might have to come back for another visit to the hair salon, especially when it comes to color-treated hair. If you have ever dyed your hair it is going to take a lot of time and a lot of work to get it back to its original color before you get it to the color you want now. Trying to get it into a lighter color without first reversing the color change of your hair will leave your hair damaged. You have to prepare also to do part of the job at home, as there would be some things you have to look after when you are at home and in between appointments.

  4. If you don’t turn up for your appointment, you could be asked to pay up to 50% deposit on your next appointment. Depending on the busy schedule of your hair salon, there will be limited availability in the salon due to the influx of customers. Coming late for your appointment could cause the style you desire to be delayed and the service could be incomplete for that day.

  5. Home care has to be done before going to the salon. So, if you are thinking of heading over to the salon you have to first do some hair care. Protecting your hair at home helps make it easier for your hair stylist to design it in the manner you desire. Use the correct hair care products to improve the quality of your hair and its longevity.

  6. Spill all the information, withholding nothing. Your hair stylist right now is the one you can trust when it comes to your hair issues, so be ready to spill out all the relevant information about the topics and issues asked. Letting them now the whole truth will let them know the right decision and choices to make and the corrective measures to take. Getting a new hairstyle is a big and important step and clear, truthful communication between you two will make your decision a successful one.

  1. I’ve been wanting to dye my hair and do something a little bit different with it for ages now, and this was so helpful! Especially for me because I’ve never done anything at the hairdressers other than getting a trim/cut, and maybe a shampoo :’)

  2. I always take pictures with me of people whose hair I would like to imitate. Usually, it’s David Bowie or Simon Le Bon!
