AD – This is a paid advertorial but all thoughts are my own
One of the main things I love about blogging and having a career in blogging is the huge prospects for growth and expansion. Really, there are no limits when it comes to a career in this industry, as the industry is always changing and evolving and as you grow your online following and presence, more and more opportunities open up to you.

In most career paths, there are plenty of things that are on offer which will allow us to grow our knowledge and prospects within our chosen career. These are usually offered to us by employers but when you work for yourself – as you would be if you’re a self employed blogger – it’s up to you to work out how best to enhance your career.
And of course it also depends on your niche and your vision, whether you’re a full-time or part-time blogger or whether you’re doing it on the side and have no intention of taking it full-time. But I’m going to go on the assumption that you’re either a) a full-time blogger or b) want to be a full-time blogger, if you’re reading this!
So if you’re ready to enhance your blogging career and take your career to that next level, here are some suggestions to consider:
Distance learning courses
Distance learning is a FANTASTIC idea for you if you want to enhance your knowledge, expand your mindset and gain well valued qualifications to better enhance your blog. And distance learning is such a great option for so many reasons – look at lockdown if you need an example! Even with the world falling apart, people were still able to learn from home. Amazing, right?
There are so many option for distance learning available, depending on your qualifications, time and budget. And there are also so many different courses available, many of which can help you enhance your blogging career based on your niche and specialties. Some courses which would be idea for bloggers are:
- Web Design
- Social Media (these could also help you expand into social media management)
- Business Planning & Marketing
- Digital Photography
- Creative Writing
- Freelance Journalism
- Proof-reading
Invest in advice from experts in the industry
I’m not talking about bloggers who did 5 minutes of research about SEO and are now offering a course for £200. That’s a whole other post for a whole other time. What I mean is those bloggers who have the experience and the results to back up what they’re offering. Like Ell from the (aff) Pinterest With Ell course – if you want someone who knows what they’re taking about when it comes to Pinterest, you won’t get much better than her!

Consider different income streams
There is a lot of money to be made within the blogging industry – don’t let anyone tell you otherwise! And there are a ton of ways in which you can make that money. If you feel as if your blogging career has come to a bit of a halt in terms of opportunities, prospects and income, it’s time to reevaluate and make some new opportunities for yourself. How are other bloggers making money that you haven’t dipped your toes into yet?
Create a new product, service or project
If you’re at a bit of a standstill, maybe it’s time to get those creative juices flowing. Now is a great time to consider developing a new product, service or project that you can sell or offer to your readers in some way. Perhaps something completely different for you that’s out of your comfort zone. Or perhaps you FINALLY get started with that project you’ve been putting off for months!
Step out of your comfort zone
Which leads me nicely onto this point. Get out of that damn comfort zone. I love the comfort zone as much as the next person but I rarely grow when I’m in it. It’s only when I put myself in a place of discomfort or unease that I truly reap the benefits and see the growth. Not only in myself but in my blog and my business. So perhaps for you, stepping out of your comfort zone is writing an eBook or doing live streams. Whatever it is… do it. I dare you.
Don’t ignore the small things
And don’t forget that enhancing your blogging career isn’t always about the big gestures. The small stuff matters too. The small stuff ALWAYS matters. That might mean simply having a re-brand or experimenting with different fonts and colours on your blog. It might mean starting a newsletter or trying a different style of photography.

These are such excellent tips! Thanks for sharing this.
Super insightful 😍 This is so amazing 🤩
Great advice. I have always loved writing. Whether it was blogging or writing stories in notebooks. It was always a dream to earn a living writing. I just started living in my “comfort zone” and not doing anything to get to that dream. Now I am trying to learn about how to get there and leave my comfort zone.
Yes, leaving that comfort zone will do WONDERS for you, I promise!
Good Post. All the points are well written.Worth Reading. Thank you so much for bringing this valuable information up. All the best.
I love how you always know how to push me in just the right way. I’ve been stuck in my comfort zone for so long, not putting enough effort into anything because failing at the things I want to achieve terrifies me. But you are genuinely one of my biggest motivations and you’re so encouraging towards everyone! I feel like it’s time to step out and get myself started!
Ah girl! Definitely get out of that comfort zone! You have so much potential!
Hi Jenny! These are some great tips. If you’re wanting expert advice on certain topics, you don’t always have to invest right away like you mentioned there are many bloggers that cover topics at no cost and I always think that’s a great way to get started.
Agreed, making the small things a priority is so important and newsletters are a great way to help build your brand!

These are great tips, there are some amazing courses out there too, and a lot of them are either free or very affordable which is obviously amazing. Stepping out of your comfort zone is a hard but necessary step sometimes too. And I think trying to diversify your income stream is always a smart move if you’re self employed x
Sophie

Great tips! Diversifying income is super important. I’ve seen so many people screwed when a social media algorithm changes or an ad company changes their parameters. Important to have eggs in multiple baskets!
Oh totally! I really thought the Mediavine thing had screwed me over the other week but I took a step back and realised there are SO MANY other ways to get that income!

This is a really helpful post, thanks Jenny!
You’re welcome!
Great advice! I always shake my head when I see people saying that blogging is dead, that it’s oversaturated or that there are no longer opportunities for new bloggers. This couldn’t be further from the truth! As people are becoming increasingly aware of ad campaign tactics, they are turning to people that they trust for their recommendations on products. Plus, we live in an information driven society – if your’e willing to provide valuable information and commit to the work that comes with blogging, you will succeed!
Oh I totally agree! It’s actually the complete opposite of dead and oversaturated!
Once again, you have written another wonderful and helpful post, Jenny. I love reading each post you write and seeing what advice and tips you have to help other bloggers. This post is super helpful and I hope I can eventually get to be a self employed blogger and make it my career. Thank you for creating and sharing this post!
Awh thank you so muhch!
Ah the comfort zone, my favourite place to be. In life in general I like to stay in there, so just doing my blog was a bit of a battle with myself. I expect more battles with to come with my lack of self belief.
I’ve done a couple of free courses, I’d like to do some bigger ones when I have the money available, I definitely want to learn everything I can.
Ah Adam, you have so much potential with your blog and your niche – have more self belief!
This is such a great post – with some really helpful tips. Thank you for the link to the Pinterest course – that is my next goal so I will be checking that out! x

This post was so informative. Thank you:)
You’re welcome 🙂
Awesome tips! I learnt a really harsh lesson in marketing last year. My mentor said: “if you aren’t getting engagement, it’s not the reader’s fault your content sucks.” I was almost offended when I heard it, but once I got over myself I realised what he really meant. I’m trying to put my pride aside and learn that not everyone is going to enjoy my content 100% of the time, and that’s OK. I just have to keep going. <3
Ohhhh snap! That’s a good quote. Harsh but true!
Great tips, I never thought of distance learning and I would love to give it a try. I like learning new things. Thank you for sharing
Distance learning would be great for you!
This is so helpful! I need to set aside a day to properly plan out where I want to go with my blog!
I’m working on a course that’s all about that!
Thanks for this, Jenny! Been reading tips from the blogging community and you guys have been helpful. x
Awh I’m so glad!

Hope this helps!
This is such a great post! Lots of useful tips
Thank you 🙂
These are great tips Jenny. What I think is great with blogging, no mattter how long you have been doing it, or how experienced you are, there is always something new to learn, isn’t there? I don’t really make any money form my blog, which I don’t mind, but I would love to branch out into creating potiential revenue from it…definitely going to take your advice on stepping out of my comfort zone with it a bit more.
Thanks for sharing!

Looooove these tips, Jenny, as always! I’ve actually started taking a digital marketing course by google and it’s been super helpful so far… And makes me wanna learn so much more to help me with my blog! I’m not doing it as a job but I would love to one day earn money from my blog, so wish me luck!
Ah that’s so cool! A digital marketing course sounds fun and SO helpful!
Thank you so much for these tips and ideas! I have already enrolled in a course from Ell! ☺️
Hope you find it helpful!
Great tips! One thing I tried to do was earn an income from another avenue of blogging, and I used Skillshare and YouTube to learn graphic design and SEO – made all the difference. Lovely post! 🙂
