8 Things To Add To Your Post Lockdown Travel Bucket List

AD – This is a collaborative post but all thoughts are my own

We all miss travelling right now. I had loads of small holidays planned this year – albeit all within the UK – and I’m absolutely gutted I wasn’t able to go on them. I was supposed to be running my own well-being retreat, taking my first trip away by myself and spending loads of nice weekends away with my boyfriend, including Shropshire and Silverstone for my birthday. Of course the most important thing is that everyone is safe and well but it’s okay to be sad that your plans for 2020 didn’t happen.

Gosh, it was looking to be such a good year. But right from the get go, things started to go wrong. Can you believe the Australian bush fires were THIS YEAR? They feel like a decade ago at this point. We’re only in June, what else can 2020 throw at us at this point? (Won’t I be kicking myself when Godzilla makes an appearance in July…)

But now is also a good time to dream. It’s a good time to save money. It’s a good time to set goals and intentions for the future. It’s a good time to move forward and think about what we really want. Because I don’t know about you but lockdown and COVID and everything else 2020 has thrown at us has definitely made me reevaluate my priorities and what really matters.

And for so many people, travel and having new experiences is something that really matters. And not being able to travel during this lockdown has only ignited that need to travel even more. It has for me. It’s made me want to finally get out there – after almost a decade of such a severe anxiety disorder that for months at a time, I was too scared to leave my own bed, let alone my house or the country.

So I’m sure so many of you are already starting to think, dream and plan your future travels and experiences. Although none of us really know how long it’ll be before we can travel freely from country to country. I say I hope it won’t be too long but ONLY if it’s safe for everyone to do so. The last thing we want is to be back at square one.

If you’re getting your bucket list filled up with travel experiences for the post-lockdown world, here are some suggestions you might like to add to it:

Go on a cruise

I’ve always wanted to go on a cruise. I love the ocean and the big expanse of it. I also love water, being on water and near water. I’ve always found it very relaxing. And I mean, have you SEEN some cruise ships? Grab your late cruise deals for after lockdown here!

Visit a Disney park

I wrote a whole blog post this month about why I can’t wait to go back to Disney so that’s definitely on my post lockdown travel bucket list and it should definitely be on yours too! There’s also so many different parks to choose from so you’re really not limited to location!

Watch a Grand Prix

Although I haven’t seen a Formula 1 Grand Prix before, I have been to various Motor Racing events and they’re always so good, brilliant days out and wonderful weekends away. There’s so much choice in the Formula 1 calendar of where you can go to watch one, from Britain, Austria, Melbourne, Shanghai, Abu Dhabi and tons more!

Visit more of the UK

Who says travel has to mean leaving the country? It absolutely doesn’t and UK travel is just as valid. I love a staycation – they’re one of my favourite types of holidays and I’ve been on so many over the last few years. Make a point of exploring more of the UK post lockdown, you’ll be amazed at the gems you’ll find.

A Yoga retreat

I experienced my first Yoga retreat back in 2018 and whilst it certainly was a bit out of my comfort zone and not what I expected, I definitely wouldn’t say no to another one. A Yoga or well-being retreat is such an experience, so definitely something to add to your travel bucket list.

Go on a food tour

Foodies, this one is for you! I love my food and I love trying new food wherever I go, so I would absolutely love to do a food tour at some point in my life and it’s definitely something on my travel bucket list. You can do food tours almost anywhere and Food and Baker have TONS of blog posts about their various food tours they’ve experienced!

Visit the location of your favourite movie

Unless that movie is set in like… prison… then this could be a great thing to do once lockdown is over and things are getting back to normal! My favourite movie is The Beach (well actually, my favourite movie is Coraline but I can’t go there) and I’d love to visit Thailand and see where The Beach was *sort of* filmed (they’ve closed the ACTUAL beach now due to too much tourism ruining it – boo).

Lapland at Christmas

And ending with this one, who doesn’t want to visit Lapland at Christmas? Is there anything more magical and Christmassy than actually WHERE SANTA LIVES? I think not. I love the cold so I would be in my element at Lapland and yes, I’m 27 and yes, I’ll be visiting Santa.

What’s on your post lockdown travel bucket list? Have any of these points given you inspiration for places to go and things to do when everything is back to normal? Let me know!

  1. These are some great ideas. Lapland at Christmas sounds so magical, I’d love to do that. Whilst seeing F1 in the flesh doesn’t appeal to me, I’d love to watch something along the lines of the Red Bull Air races.

    1. Sounds like a great idea!

  2. These are some great ideas. A food tour sounds awesome. I can’t wait to go and visit places when it is really safe to do so. I haven’t been to Disney, but it looks like so much fun. My littlest sister went this year and loved Disneyland Paris. I wanted to visit Amsterdam this year. But I think me and my girlfriend are going to do a staycation somewhere this summer x

    1. Staycations are great. I can imagine a lot of people sticking to them for a while!

      1. Definitely. That’s why we thought it would be best to start with a staycation.

  3. I can’t believe we are already halfway through the year. I mean lockdown was when I saved the most money! I just let go of my annual pass so it’ll be a while before I go back to Disneyland. They also have a ton of restrictions when they open up again, like requiring a reservation system. ooo I love the idea of a food tour!! I used to do dessert hopping back then!

    1. Yeah I think I’ll be waiting a while for Disney until some restrictions have been lifted because I’d want the whole experience!

  4. There are so many places I’d love to visit, especially in the US x

  5. I am 100% planning a staycation when this is over. I cannot wait for a night away. I want to just escape, take some time off work and be free!

    A yoga retreat sounds amazing!

    1. Definitely something to add to your bucket list!

  8. Thank for sharing this fantastic list. Going to Lapland at Christmastime would be so amazing along with going to German Christmas villages! I live about an hour away from the U.S border (NY state) and so my dream has always been to drive down there but due to COVID it seems like its going to be a long while before i can go but it is one my post-lockdown list.

    1. Hopefully one day!

  9. Fun options! I love the idea of visiting a filming location – especially if you’ve been watching the movie or binging the TV show during lockdown. Will have to say I’m not eagre to get on a cruise. Besides the fact that I get seasick, the environmental impact and spread of sickness onboard make me weary.

    1. I probably wouldn’t do a cruise YET so close after covid, for sure. But in the future I definitely would!

I can’t wait to travel again! Visiting more of the UK is something I’m hoping to do later this year, and I’d love to go on a food tour at some point!

    1. Same. The UK has so much to offer!

Oh and if I thought I couldn’t be more desperate to travel already! Lockdown and post-graduation panic has made me impulsively apply to do a two-month internship in Tokyo next year, so hopefully that’s my travel plans sorted once this is all over! Love this list! x

    1. Oh my gosh that sounds AMAZING!

  12. I cannot wait until we can travel freely again! I really want to go to Walt Disney World as my last big holiday before I start saving for my own flat/house. Watching Disney holiday vlogs have been getting me through lockdown recently haha!

    1. Haha I don’t blame you!

  13. I dream of Disney, like actual proper dreams! Mickey had to save me from the dragon under the castle, it would have been quite traumatic were it not for Mickeys shiny knight costume!

Lovely inspiring list, I can’t wait to travel x

    1. Oh my god Claire

  14. This was such a lovely read ! I share the exact same sentiments with you about how my resolutions changed due to the pandemic !
But the year is not done yet and there’s still a lot we can do. A yoga retreat sounds like a dream right now , as well as a food tour since restaurants just recently opened here in South Africa.

PS – If Godzilla makes an appearance in July, I’m reminding you of this post, lol. 😊

    1. Hahaha I’ll take full responsibility for Godzilla if that’s the case!

  15. This post makes me want to travel so badly it’s physically painful. I didn’t have a lot of travel plans before lockdown, but now that we’re mostly being encouraged to stay home for the rest of the year, I really want to get out there. When things are safe, I’d love to do all of the above, especially a cruise and a yoga retreat. I also want to explore the area around me! My husband and I just moved, and we haven’t even had a chance to explore our own neighborhood that much. Sigh. Hopefully things will be back to normal soon!

    1. Maybe exploring your local area can be your travel for the rest of the year? 🙂

  16. A yoga retreat sounds like a great time! I didn’t really even think of that option. My fist destination is going to be Hawaii with my daughter. Thanks for the great ideas!

    1. Oh Hawaii that sounds magical!

  17. A yoga retreat sounds lovely right about now. There is one in Arizona I have always wanted to do!

I also live like, 2 hours from Disney so totally adding that to my list, too!

    1. Oh my god you’re so lucky!

  18. Oh I love the idea of Lapland and a yoga retreat (or meditation). I missed a Tasmanian holiday this year, and no I can’t believe the bushfires were this year, it seems so long ago!

    1. It really does, doesn’t it!

  19. Ohh, I really want to go on a yoga retreat! It sounds like such a relaxing getaway – exactly what I need. Yes, I miss travelling. I usually travel a lot for work and we travel as a family for fun a few times a year, and it’s just not happening this year. And yes, so far 2020 sucks – we barely even shook ourselves off from the bushfires when Covid-19 started spreading. Fingers crossed it gets better – not too much to ask at this point, right?

    1. Haha it’s really not too much to ask considering how this year has gone so far!

I want to go to disney again! xx

  21. All of these would be amazing! Lockdown has definitely made me realise how much I want to travel. Amsterdam is at the top of my list for when it’s safe to go again xx

    1. Sameee! I can’t wait to visit Amsterdam!

  22. I love traveling and I love bucket lists too, but with everything that’s going on right now in the world, we are planning to stay in Ireland and explore its coastal towns. Hopefully we can start traveling again next year, I would love to visit my family and friends in Latvia. Thanks for sharing and inspiring 😀 Aiva

    1. Travelling local is a great idea right now x

  23. I was supposed to be in Bali right now! So thats defo on my bucket list for next year! I love the idea of a yoga retreat or just doing something completely for myself!

    1. Oh my god I’m so sad for you!

  24. Love this! Lockdown has made me consider everything and contemplate volunteering abroad 😬

    1. That’d be an amazing experience!

  25. Swizz Alps .. my dream destination! It got postponed many a times due to various reasons and this year due to Covid. On a plus note, my kids will be older when we travel there and hopefully they can enjoy the trip more .

    Nice write up there !

    1. Oh no, hopefully you’ll get there soon!

      1. Yes hopefully next year .. fingers crossed 🤞
