AD – This is a pre-written post

As anyone who is a parent or has a young one in their broader family knows – and I think that covers most people – buying the perfect gift for a child isn’t necessarily that difficult. They often have a strong sense of what they want and what they don’t want, so it’s frequently straightforward to cater to their particular tastes with a cool present.

What about adults, though? Well, they can sometimes be a lot trickier to buy for. So many of them will simply say, “I don’t mind what you get me”, but there are only so many pairs of novelty socks and chocolate boxes that you can purchase for grown-ups!

So, whether you’re getting ready to buy gifts for Christmas, a birthday, anniversary or any other special date, let’s have a look at some of the items that it could be especially cool to gift to an adult in your life in 2020.

A vinyl turntable

If there’s one thing that can be said about a lot of us adults, it’s that we’re proud old fogies at heart. And I don’t necessarily mean in the sense of thinking to yourself as you see a teenager walking down the street wearing headphones, “oh, they must have one of those new-fangled iPod things…”

What I really mean, is a music format that genuinely is archaic, yet also absolutely 2020s, judging by the recent ever-heightening sales. Yep, I’m talking about the humble vinyl record.

If you know your intended recipient’s music tastes, you might find something great in the sales at your local HMV or independent record store. Alternatively, if they’ve got a stack of records already but nothing to play them on, what about a turntable like the Audio Technica AT-LP60X or House of Marley Stir It Up Wireless Bluetooth Turntable?

A vaping starter kit

Staying with the ‘gadget’ theme, but looking to up-to-the-minute tech instead of an updated version of stuff from decades past, it’s fair to say that vaping is another “very 2020s” thing. Producing those unmistakable vapours from an e-cigarette is as cool as smoking once was, except that Public Health England has declared it to be about 95% safer.

So, if you know a smoker who would like to quit – perhaps someone who has mentioned the possibility of switching to vaping in passing to you – why not delight them with a vaping starter kit?

Shisha Vibe, for instance, is a London Bridge-based vaping store that also has an extensive selection of vape starter kits at gift-friendly prices. As you can see from the link, these kits don’t just make it easy to get started with vaping – they also look pretty hip.

An ‘adult’ adult gift

Hands up; which of you had a slightly different interpretation of the title of this guide than what it’s turned out to be so far? Well, don’t worry, because I rounded up a few cheeky inclusions that very much fit that definition of “adult”.

What about this NSFW (Not Safe For Work) Voting Card Game from IWOOT, or this republished 19th-century book on sex tips that you can nab from Prezzybox with change from a fiver? There’s certainly no shortage of options for filling one’s stocking in this naughty product category…

There you go – just a few suggestions that show “adult gifts” can be very different things to different people! What gifts are you thinking of getting for a mature loved one in the weeks or months ahead, whether for Christmas or any other significant occasion, celebration or life milestone?

  1. We bought our youngest son a vinyl record player last Christmas. He was thrilled!!! He is twenty years old, but the look on his face was just like he was a little kid again. And now, we get to buy records…they can get pricey, but oh, so much fun!

  2. I do find it really difficult to know what to get for friends and family sometimes, the children in the family do seem a lot easier to buy for! Although they probably think the same of me, I know whenever they ask me what I want I always say I don’t really know/mind! xx
