Identifying Irregular Tyre Wear
Irregular tyre wear can be of different kinds. Most common of them being heel and toe wear, one-sided wear and centre wear.
Heel and Toe wear is a pattern that is caused by normal usage and suspension settings. A minor heel and toe wear is reasonable and has no effect on driving comfort. However, an extensive wear can be because of issues like improper inflation, excessive toe-in and low-wear applications.
A centre wear can be found on the driven wheels of high-power cars. High torque levels generated during strong acceleration can quickly increase wear of the tread from the centre of the tyre. One sided wear is caused by incorrect axle geometry. A kerb can be mounted as a result of deviations from the standard specification.
Identifying a Cut
Cuts can be caused due to external influences like bad road conditions or objects on roads like glass and stones etc. It would be easier to detect such a condition within time if you’re habitual of visually inspecting your tyres frequently. If you notice such a cut on your tyre, its better to consult local professionals and get your tyres either repaired or replaced, whatever your mechanic suggests.
Identifying a Puncture
Punctures are caused when a tyre runs over sharp objects like glass, nails, screws etc. If the puncture is deep, tyre can be losing its pressure. If you notice that your tyres are mysteriously losing air pressure, or you see a nail or screw embedded in your tyre tread, then immediately visit your local garage and have them replaced as soon as possible. Also, after every week, try to visually inspect your tyres for any exterior damage such as cuts, cracks or bulges.
