AD – This is a paid advertorial with Femme Luxe but all thoughts are my own

Body confidence is always a bit of a triggering subject for me. And it’s something that can sway quite heavily either way, depending on the day and how I’m feeling. I’ve had a very long and tiresome journey with self esteem and body confidence. Even going as far as to write a blog post titled “I Hate Myself” back in 2017, which, looking back now, is incredibly sad.

My relationship with my body has been one of highs and lows. From disordered eating to body dysmorphia, it’s certainly not always been a healthy one either. But I think the thing with body confidence is that it’s an ongoing journey. You don’t just reach the destination one day and go, “right, I’m body confident now. What’s next?”

This post – actually more specifically the images in this post – have taken a lot from me. So before we get into what I’ve learned about body confidence, I want to talk about the items featured in this post. These two pieces are very different and make me feel very different, depending on which one I’m wearing.

The first piece I chose was the Pink Ribbed Belted Loungewear Set. Which I think is very appropriate given the fact we’ve just had a year and a bit of wearing nothing but loungewear! This set is super comfy and the colour is right up my street. I kind of blend in to my office whilst I’m wearing this!

I’ve definitely jumped on the loungewear bandwagon because although most of us have been working from home, it’s nice to have a structure to the day and actually feel good about yourself at the same time. Femme Luxe have an amazing amount of Loungewear Sets, of all colours and styles. I love the leggings and the long top combo of the one I chose.

And in regards to body confidence, this set makes me feel really good. Comfort plays a huge part in that as well, I believe. So if I’m more comfortable, I’m more able to embrace my confidence how I want to. The belt allows you to nip in at the waist as well and the leggings are flattering – but the long top allows for a bit of a cover-up! This set was a major win for me.

The second piece I chose was the Black Tie Front Organza Mesh Sleeve Crop Top. Now we all need a few black tops in our wardrobe as they go with everything, you can dress them up or down and they’re usually super flattering. But this is the piece that really got me thinking about body confidence – as it’s not the usual sort of top I’d wear!

This would obviously be saved for certain type of day / night out. You wouldn’t find me wandering around Tesco in something like this. But despite the fact I feel very much out of my comfort zone with this piece, I also found my confidence creeping up and up whilst I was taking these photos.

This pairs really nicely with a pair of jeans and heels. I think it’d also look fab with a skirt and tights with some chunky boots. You really could get creative with a top like this. The sleeves were a little itchy to start with but after a wash, they were much better.

I’ve never been confident with my body. Even when I was at my fittest and slimmest. And I’ve had a very toxic relationship with exercise and the gym in the past. But being in the blogging community, surrounded by inspiring women of all shapes and sizes – well you can’t help but look at them with awe and take a leaf out of their book.

When I look at these photos, I see someone who’s not quite there yet with their body confidence but is making her way down the right path. I see someone who’s started to experiment – ever so gently. And get in touch more with her own body.

I see love handles.

I see hip dips.

I see a bit of a belly pouch.

I see thick thighs.

And boobs that aren’t quite big enough to match the rest of my body.

But as I’m writing these things now, I’m not writing them with anger or upset or self loathing. I’m writing them as me. In this current time and this present moment. This is me. This is how I look. This is how my vessel to the present moment is presenting itself right now and as long as I can experience this beautiful world, then that’s all that matters.

Would I like to lose a little weight? Yes.

Would I like to tone up? Definitely.

Would I like to get fitter? Heck yeah.

But my health and happiness and experience on Earth is far more important. I love to exercise because I love to move my body. I love to sweat and release endorphins. I love to go for walks – because it’s good for my heart and my mental health. I adore Yoga because it tends to my spirit. And also feels really freaking good.

I know I’ll have days where I look at these photos and want to cry. I know I’ll also have days where I look at my body and think “you are freaking amazing”. I know I’ll have countless days in-between too. But I’m enjoying getting to know my body better every single day. And maybe one day I’ll be able to say, “right, I’m body confident now. What’s next?”

I’d love to hear your stories, thoughts or journey with body confidence!

  1. This loungewear looks so cute and I love how you look in it! Thanks so much for sharing all about it my friend.

  2. Some days I have zero body confidence and others I just don’t care. I don’t think I will ever be okay with my body regardless of my size or shape. You look stunning though!

  3. I love this post from start to finish! You look gorgeous, you are gorgeous, you are stunning both inside and out! I’m learning to feel the same way about myself, and as you know it’s a journey. But it’s certainly one that both of us are, I think , coping quite well on. (Only the occasional break down, nothing too serious). Keep thriving!

  4. When I look at these pictures of you I’m honestly thinking “Wow, I wish I had her confidence!! She’s rocking it!” I find myself not wearing the things I actually want to wear because of the shape of my body, but I’m going to try something new after reading your post. We have one body and one life to really bring it. Thank you for bringing that confident inspiration today 🙂 Wishing you a great week!

  5. I think you look amazing! Women are so hard on themselves (me included) when it comes to body image. I hope one day we can all just try to be our best selves, inside and outside, without judging ourselves. Thanks for sharing.

  6. I absolutely love this post, Jennyn And you look fab! I relate to a lot of what you said as I’m also somewhere on the road of “do I love my body or not” where it can sway either way any day. But it is a process and we have to celebrate the good days and get through the bad days.

  7. Keep it up! We all should be proud of our body! Share positive vibe and love for your body just the way you are. Health and happiness are way more important! Btw I love the black wrapped crop top! You carried it very well!

  8. This post is beautiful! I struggle with body confidence too, especially now I’ve had a baby and don’t feel myself. These photos are beautiful and I love how you rocked that crop top! I’ve never been confident enough to even when I’ve been at a weight I’m happy at. You look amazing.

  9. This post was so inspiring, thank you for sharing! Body confidence is an area I struggle with too but I’m definitely working on it all the harder now that I have a daughter. I’m hoping to raise her to be more loving and accepting of her body as-is (while also working to take care of it) than I was growing up.

  10. Thank you for sharing this post Jenny – that lounge wear looks AMAZING on you 🙂 I love seeing real bodies on social media and in posts, as opposed to models who “look their best” at that moment. Thank you for being real and raw. My body has certainly changed with the pandemic and I’ve been trying to recently be gentle with my self talk as my body is working through a lot with lockdowns and movements while it’s great isn’t always in the cards every single day on some tougher days. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thank you! It’s so comfy 🙂 I think the fact our bodies have made it through a pandemic is incredible in itself so glad to hear you’re being more gentle with yourself! xxx

  11. The loungewear set is so pretty. I love the tie detail. Body confidence is definitely something I’ve struggled with too and I think it often changes on a daily basis.

  12. The top suits you so much – I actually remember reading the referenced post you’ve tagged when you wrote it as at the time I could so heavily relate. You’ve come forward so much since then. Great collaboration.

  13. This was such a powerful post Jenny. I too struggle with body confidence massively, I won’t wear certain things out of fear of not looking ‘good enough’ or fear of what others might thing of me. I’m definitely on a journey with body confidence too! You look amazing in both those pieces, especially the tie top, it’s such a gorgeous piece and is so flattering on you! x

  14. Beautifully honest post, and lovely photos too! It’s great to be able to relate to parts of your body journey, definitely something many have struggled with. Thank you for sharing such an important post. And it’s great to hear you’re on the right path! 🙂

  15. 👏👏👏
As women, I think one of the most damaging things we can do is pick ourselves apart in front of our peers, and worse, younger adults and children.

The concept of, well she doesn’t like that about herself, so I probably shouldn’t like it about myself either, is contagious.

Well done on owning and respecting your miraculous body! It is a new mindset for me as well. Not easy everyday, but worth striving for🌺

  16. You look amazing, I love the lounge wear set. Something I feel I should have bought into at the start of the first lockdown. I’m glad you had the confidence to take photos of yourself. Fabulous post.

  17. What a raw, honest post. It’s hard to open up like that, but you are the more empowered for it I think. My legs have bothered me since childhood. I think my calves are great but from the knee up? I’m also becoming self conscious of my butt and arms. Age changes your body and I’m not quite as I was at 28 or 33. The struggle is real!

  18. You look amazing Jenny! I completely relate with what you said and truly found this inspiring! As you said your body is the only vessel you have and need to love it. When I have bad days or compare to others I remind myself that this body makes me do things everyday, takes me everywhere, nourishes me. It’s still a long way but I am so glad to read all different experience people have and how honest this post was! Love the loungewear, you can never have enough pieces and that top too, love the mesh arms! x

  19. The second top is so beautiful and you look amazing. This was a great uplifting and relatable post. I have had a hard journey with my body too. I’ve gone through so many changes from my 20’s into my 30’s. I have my days when I am not nice to my body and days where I am kind. It’s not easy for me at all. But thank you for this! Great clothing items.

  20. Fantastic post Jenny, I’m sorry you’ve struggled with self-confidence and body image in the past- and I’m so happy you’re in a better place now and that you’re openly discussing the journey you are on. I absolutely love the clothes in your pictures, they look so comfortable but gorgeous. Thank you for sharing x

  21. Love this post so much Jen! I used to have issue with body confidence because I’m short and skinny girl and people around me always ask me whether I eat enough or not (I’m so tired to explain that I eaaat a lot healthy food, etc) -.- Now I get used to it and ignore them. My family and I know the truth – it’s because of DNA tho!

I love the loungewear so much! It’s my fave color and honestly, you look so damn gorgeous in both of these x

  22. Such a lovely honest post, & you look absolutely incredible too!
I love both of these loungewear sets, I mean who doesn’t LOVE loungewear anyway haha! but honestly the ribbed set is probably my favourite choice for a cosy evening or a whole cosy day under the duvet!
I’d also like to add how important posts like these are for a lot of people and you hit the nail on the head when talking about choosing your own path with your body confidence, in whatever way feels right for YOU! x

  23. What a fab post Jenny! And so proud of you for sharing and honestly girl you look absolutely stunning in these outfits. 💚
I have also had struggles with body image (most predominantly in the past) and more recently I am just coming to terms with my body and it will always be a “take each day as it comes” unfortunately but it is so important for us to embrace our bodies and also for more people to showcase that online, and us all sharing the love for each others bodies too! Xx

  24. Such a good post Jenny. We’re all on our own journeys with body confidence etc and I know I’m struggling massively atm thanks to lockdown despite the fact I’m exercising more! Ppfftt….

Anyway, its good that we have clothes which make us feel good whilst we’re making headway with ourselves.

Love these two outfits on you too! 😍💛

  25. Well done you for sharing this, I feel like I’d really struggle to share something similar so I’m fully in awe of you right now.
These items look lovely and they really show off your lovely figure.
I love to see more real bodies online – there’s nothing wrong with hip dips, big natural boobs etc. Maybe if I’d have seen more of this kind of content growing up, I’d feel less scared to show off my own body!

    Rosie

    1. Thank you 🙂 Oh definitely! Honestly hip dips are my biggest insecurity. And I NEVER saw anyone else with them growing up in magazines / on tv. To the point where I didn’t think they were normal!

  26. Let’s try again because I have no idea how that sent! As I was saying, you look amazing in both of these! The lounge wear is so cute and honestly looks so comfortable. I adore that top. Absolutely love it. I’m going through a massive stage with body confidence (haven’t felt this unfit and blurgh for ages) so this was a really inspiring post to read and the reminder that it’s a journey and there will always be something to work on. I hope you look back and see what a QUEEN you look in these!

    1. Hahaha no worries! Thank you 🙂 I’m glad this inspired you a bit. I’d suggest starting super small if you feel really bleugh at the moment. I’ve definitely been there! Do something good for your body every day – even if it’s just going for a 15 minute walk!
