AD – this is a paid advertorial but all thoughts are my own
Last week on my blog I shared that I was finally getting my own office built! And from this moment on, I am NOT going to stop talking about it. Seriously though, I am exited about hopefully sharing the process on my blog and social media and it’ll also give me a change to delve into more interior and decor themed content as I’m obviously going to be decorating the inside of my office when the time comes.

I’m a huge fan of interiors – as most of us are since Pinterest came into our lives. And whilst I’m at a point where I don’t have my own place to decorate, having a small office is really exciting for me. I’m so pumped to finally get my own little “space” that is entirely mine. I can decorate it as I like. I can have whatever I want in it. And I can completely curate it to be a place of relaxation and productivity.
So today I want to talk about the interior and decor ideas and things that I’m planning on including in my little home office when it’s finally built. I’ve been thinking about this for SO LONG and have a huge list of ideas of things I want to include in my office, from specific colour schemes, which solid wood flooring I would like, what home decor items I want to buy and more!
Colour scheme
So I’ve picked my colour scheme and I’m VERY happy with it. I’m going for pink and green. The walls will be painted a very pale green colour, which isn’t just one of my favourite colours but also a colour I find relaxing and calming. Which is important for me to feel whilst I’m working in my office. I wouldn’t want to be surrounded by a colour that I find too dramatic and dark and overwhelming.
And pink is another of my favourite colours, so I’m going with pink accents. Think pink in my prints, pink cushions or throws or perhaps a pale pink sofa.
Furniture
I’m not going to have much furniture in my office. I don’t like clutter and the last thing I want is for my office to be cluttered. It’s also not going to be THAT big so I have limited space for furniture anyway. Obviously a desk is a must as that’s where I’ll be working and keeping my laptop, notebooks and camera etc.
Also a high quality desk chair is a no-brainer. As one of the main reasons for this office is so I have a proper place to work as working from my bed for so long has cause me to get permanent lower back pain. I’m also hoping to get a small love-seat, so I have somewhere to relax and chill and read my book when I take breaks and some shelves.
Personal items
As I said, clutter is not my friend. So I’m not going to be filling my office up with thousands of bits and pieces everywhere. I want to keep the items in my office both to a minimum but also only have very specific ornaments in there that either make me feel happy, relaxed or motivated such as:
- My crystals (for energy)
- My Buddah statue (for relaxation)
- My Formula 1 models (for motivation)
- My books (for grounding)
Home decor
This is the part I’m REALLY looking forward to because who doesn’t love going home decor shopping! A few items on my list of things to buy are: a welcome mat, a few cushions for the sofa, some plants (probably fake ones), photo frames for prints, a candle and perhaps a few other little bits which take my fancy. Cos let’s be honest, when you go home decor shopping, you ALWAYS come out with more!

One thing I’m definitely not having in there is anything too personal, aside from books and things. Such as photos of loved ones. I know that sounds a bit cold-hearted but I’m a VERY empathetic person when it comes to other people’s feelings. It doesn’t take much for something to affect my mood so deeply that I can’t function and get on with my work to the best of my ability.
And photos also often send my mind wandering. I don’t want to be in the middle of a work flow and look up and see a photo of my Granddad, who’s recently passed away and start thinking about all the things I wish I had done and thinking back over his last months (which are really hard to think about). There’s a time and a place for reminiscing. I’d be interested to know if anyone else is the same in that regard!
