Regardless of what’s going on in the world, babies are always going to be born. I don’t know about you but I’ve seen ENDLESS pregnancy announcements on social media over the last year. People having more sex during lockdown? Who knows. But there’s nothing than brings a little hope back into our lives than a beautiful new born baby!

Throughout lockdown 1.0, my boyfriend’s cousin had a baby and had to give birth at home, without pain relief. Then in January, another of his cousins had a baby too. So there’s definitely been a bit of baby fever in the family recently! Me next? Who knows! I wouldn’t oppose the idea, though!
2020 (and 2021 so far, it would seem) has been such a stressful time in our lives. I really do take my metaphorical hat off to women who have been pregnant during this time and how they’ve coped with the COVID risk and keeping themselves, their families and unborn babies safe. As well as potentially having to go to appointments and staying in hospitals without their partners their by their side. I don’t know how they did it.
In today’s post, I want to talk about some ways in which you can support expecting mum’s during this period in lockdown and during the pandemic. Pregnancy is undoubtedly a very emotional and draining journey and with a pandemic on top of that, we really do need to look out for those around us.
Here are some ways in which you can support the expecting mum’s in your life during lockdown!
Don’t meet them unless it’s safe to do so…
Who’d have thought I’d be starting this post with the advice of DON’T VISIT THEM. Only in this decade would that advice seem totally normal. But seriously, at the time of writing this, we’re in lockdown 3.0 here in the UK and deaths and infection rates are still sky high. It’s still SO important for us to keep distant and stay at home as much as possible.
So if your friend is pregnant during this time, as much as you might want to run round to their house and give them a massive hug, please don’t. The best thing you can do is NOT see them and risk exposure. Perhaps if they’re comfortable with it you can meet outside for a walk whilst keeping a safe distance.
Send a gift from The Baby Hamper Company instead!
If you can’t see them, then sending them something so they know you’re thinking about them and celebrating their amazing news is the next best thing. A hamper from The Baby Hamper Company could be the perfect option! Their beautiful hampers are completely affordable and a perfect gift for the new baby. Let’s take a look at a few of them!
Baby Boy’s Hamper – £25.00
The baby boy hamper contains sweet little products which are both practical and super cute for the new baby boy. You’ll receive (or the expecting Mum will receive) a sleep-suit, a bodysuit and a little dinosaur soft toy in this particular hamper.
Baby Girl’s Hamper – £25.00
This one is catered more towards girls (although obviously any child could use and receive it) and again contains a sleep-suit, a bodysuit, a toy and a muslin cloth as well.
Pure White Baby Hamper – £25.00
If you’re after something more gender neutral then you might want to go for the pure white baby hamper instead. This one contains a sleep-suit, baby hat, muslin cloth and a lovely sachet of Corrine Taylor bath salts which are scented with soothing essential oils.
Make sure they know you’re available for a chat
Pregnancy can be a very draining thing at the best of times, with lots of emotions cropping up all over the place. Add lockdown and a freaking pandemic on top of that and it wouldn’t be at ALL surprising if expecting parents are feeling a bit overwhelmed during this time. Make sure your expecting friend or family member knows that you’re always available for a chat or a face time
Treat them to some self care gifts for themselves
We often think of buying gifts for the baby but don’t forget that the expecting mum needs some SERIOUS self care during this period too. So perhaps consider creating them a lovely pamper box or self care kit for them to use and indulge in and give themselves a little TLC during this time of their lives!
Arrange a virtual baby shower
And finally for the ultimate way to spoil an expecting mum during lockdown would be to organize a virtual baby shower with their close friends and family! Of course it’s never going to be the same as you all meeting up in person but it’s the next best thing and you can still make it mega fun with games and quizzes.
