4 Skills To Learn In 2022 & the Benefits of Expanding Your Skillset

ad // 2022 is almost upon us and whether you can believe that or not (I definitely can’t, I’m still trying to process 2020, who’s with me?), it’s time to start thinking about the New Year, potentially some goals and plans to make for the upcoming 12 months. I’ve already set my 2022 goals and although I’m not writing a blog post about them, they’ve definitely made me motivated for 2022!

The New Year is a great time to start learning a new skill. The fresh start mindset can really help you go “all-in” with learning something new and keep you super motivated. Just think where you might be with a new skill at the end of 2022 if you start learning it in January? It’s a nice thought!

So today I’m going to share a handful of helpful, fun or cool new skill ideas for you to think about taking up in the New Year as well as the benefits of expanding your skillset. And trust me, there are TONS of benefits!

4 skills to learn in 2022:

Everyone is different and is interested in different things, so some of these skill ideas might not be right for you. But I’m hoping they at least might get the cogs turning and allow you to consider some skills that might be worthwhile for you to learn. And don’t forget, you don’t have to learn a new skill for any particular purpose.  Because it’s fun is a perfectly valid reason to learn a new skill.

Computer software, programming and cyber security

Now this one could be very handy for a lot of people as so much of our lives are online now. If you’re a whizz at computers, understand the lingo and the inner workings of these wonderful machines and want to expand your skills into a new area of computing, then a cyber security course might be for you. This is something you could eventually turn into a career with a very respectable cyber security salary.

Cooking and baking

This is one that definitely appeals to me because I already really love cooking but I feel like my knowledge is very basic. I can follow a recipe well and I’m pretty good at throwing ingredients together but I would love to expand my cooking skills and learn how to whip up a few yummy new dishes.  Learning how to cook and bake is beneficial for a wide range of people and reasons too.

Art

Okay I’ve purposely left this one very vague because “art” covers a huge range of skills and talents. From painting to dancing to sculpting to poetry – there are a HUGE number of art based skills you could learn in the new year. Art can help you process your emotions, give you an outlet and open you up to new opportunities, too!

Music

Again, I’ve kept this one vague because music could mean anything from learning an instrument, learning how to sing, learning how to produce music and much more. Another skill that can provide and open up so many doors but is also super fun. In 2021, I actually started writing a few songs and found I really enjoyed it!

I’d love to hear about any new skills you’re planning to learn in the New Year! Let me know in the comments!
