Having all this time to spare in lockdown right now, I’ve found myself using Pinterest more than ever before. More specifically, to spend hours ogling over gorgeous home interiors that I can only DREAM of having one day. From living rooms to bedrooms, gardens to solid wood floor designs everything to do with interior design is piquing my interest right now. Maybe it’s something to start looking into further or maybe it’s boredom? Whatever the reason, it’s FUN.

I don’t currently own my own home, as I still live at home with my parents but getting on the property ladder and the prospect of finally moving into my own home has been in the forefront of my mind a lot lately. I’m not ashamed of my current situation. I’m still living at home for a lot of reasons – my previous anxiety disorder being one of them – but I feel like I’m at a time in my life now where my own home would be the perfect next step.
Of course it’s not as easy as just going out and buying a house. There’s so many things to consider and things to sort out and it’s certainly not easy to get on the property ladder and buy a house these days. But I’m definitely hoping that once this COVID-19 situation has calmed down that I can at least start looking at properties to see what catches my eye and the kind of things I would want in a potential home.

Anyway, enough of my rambling because today I want to talk about 5 solid wood floor designs that have really caught my eye over on Pinterest (and rightmove!) lately. Ideally, I’d love all 5 of these in my future dream home but I know that’s not realistic and I’d probably have to pick 1 or 2 favourites. But honestly? There are so many small details I’m excited to think about when it comes to designing my dream rooms. From flooring, colour schemes, skirting boards, wallpaper and furniture!
But I’ve always loved solid wood – it would always be my choice over carpet or any other type of flooring to have in a house. I just feel like it makes every room bigger, more open and sophisticated. Here are 5 solid wood floor designs for inspiration if you’re thinking about revamping your flooring!
White painted floors
A white solid wood floor is perfect for smaller rooms and those rooms that need a boost of lightness and brightness. There’s nothing that will reflect the light more! If you don’t like mopping, spend a lot of time in the garden or have messy dogs or children, then a white painted floor MIGHT not be the option for you. But nevertheless, it’s a great contemporary design that can completely transform a room.
Black / dark wooden floors
Black or dark wooden floors have certain gained traction over the last few years. If you’d have asked me a few years ago if I liked dark wood floors I’d have said no but the more I look at them, the more I fall in love. Obviously with this design you need to be careful of the specific room but a dark wood floor can help you introduce a seriously luxe vibe into the room you’re decorating.
Grey wooden floors
If white is too minimal and black is too out of your comfort zone, a happy medium for colouring could be a grey wood floor. Grey can be an incredibly sophisticated colour and matches wonderfully with so many different colour schemes, so would suit a variety of rooms in the house. Who doesn’t love a nice grey and pink scheme? In fact, I’m going to be having grey flooring in my office when it’s built with a green and pink scheme around it!
Distressed solid wood floor
I absolutely love this design – definitely my favourite out of the bunch. When I look at distressed finished solid wood floors I think of the beach. Anyone else? Of course most things will distress themselves over time but you can achieve this look yourself with various techniques worth researching. If you’re into boho and minimal vibes, this is a great option for you!
Varnished floor design
Probably the most popular design of the bunch and the one you’ll see the most often in homes in the UK and that’s the varnished wooden floor. Hard-wearing and fuss-free, a varnished floor will go with almost any design or decor you have in that particular room.
