ad | So initially I was going to title this post “stress-free” move but I think it’s safe to say that moving house is rarely, if ever, stress-free. In fact, multiple studies have shown that moving is one of the most stressful life events you can go through. However, there are things you can do to make your move more efficient, reliable and organized.
Although we may not be able to remove the stress from moving entirely, there are plenty of things we can do to make the process more seamless and more manageable. Which is a good place to start.
I’m moving this year – in a few weeks in fact! I’m packing up my life in Essex and moving to the Lincolnshire countryside. This will be my first move as an adult. Only my second overall. So it’s safe to say, this experience has been new, scary and a bit overwhelming!
There have been many aspects of this move that have cause me quite a bit of stress over the last few months but in terms of efficiency, I feel like we’ve had a really good system in place.
So if you’re moving soon, here are some basic tips for a more efficient and reliable move:
Keep all your important documents together
The process of moving house will have you acquiring a LOT of documents. Especially if you’re getting a mortgage, using a mortgage advisor, a solicitor or taking out new policies. So a good rule of thumb is to just keep all your important stuff together, in a folder, in one place. It’s likely you’ll need to refer back to it at some point.
Use a reliable moving service
Most of us will have to use a moving service when we move, so it’s important to find a reliable service that caters to our needs. A quick Google search, such as “Moving Service in London” will bring up plenty of options for you, such as the man van. Book them in early, so you know you have this covered.
Have a de-clutter before you move
You build up a lot of clutter over a short space of time, so by the time you come to move, chances are, you’re going to have a lot of clutter in your home that you’re not going to want to take with you. Start packing early
There are plenty of things within our homes that we don’t use every day or are perhaps packed away in storage, in sheds or in the loft, that we could start packing early on. You’re going to want to start your packing early (if you can), so you’re not absolutely overwhelmed in the days leading up to the move itself.
Ask for help
They say it takes a village to raise a baby but I think it also takes a village to help you move and if you have the luxury of asking for help, you absolutely should. Most people know how stressful it is to move house, so take any help you can get from friends or family.
Go at your own pace and don’t forget to take a breath
So, I don’t know if you know this but moving is stressful. And the day of the move can be scary, overwhelming, even sometimes sad. So try and go at your own pace and stop for a breather every now and again. You don’t need to power through and not give yourself any rest. Self care is even more important during times of stress.
