AD // I’m a big fan of a morning routine. I’m a morning person, I’m always more productive before 12pm and it’s definitely my favourite time of day. For that reason, I’m very sensitive to the things I do in the morning and how they have an impact on the rest of my day. Sometimes, I feel out of whack for the whole day when I’ve missed out a couple of items from my morning routine. If you want to experience the miracle morning, then this post will help!
Before we really get into the bulk of this post and how you can experience the miracle morning yourself, I just want to take a minute to say that I understand everyone’s lifestyles and routines are vastly different. What I can’t bare is reading posts about routines, with the claim that you HAVE to do the things mentioned otherwise your morning / evening will suck.
We’re all motivated by different things and have different needs. So what will work for me, might not work for you and that’s cool. Which is why I always reiterate that these are only suggestions of things that work for me; they’re worth a try but open to adaptation.
So, let’s get into talking about the miracle morning routine. More specifically, small things you can do to get your day off to an amazing start BEFORE you start work.
My morning routine might look a little different from yours as I permanently work from home. I also don’t have children. So the morning is very much MY time. Which is probably why I love it so much.
But regardless of your responsibilities, your job, your metaphorical children and a number of other things, the start of our day really can set the mood for the next 12 hours.
The time before you start work and jump into boss mode, productivity mode, employee mode (whatever the heck mode you spend your days in) is heckin’ important. And the cool thing is, that it can take such small changes and alterations to make such a big difference.
The miracle morning doesn’t have to all be about productivity either. I find the morning time a great space and time to really gather myself and tend to my mind, body and spirit.
So if you’re ready to create and experience the miracle morning in your own life, here are 10 suggestions of things that you should do before you start work!
Drink a glass of water
Let’s start simple, shall we? There are tons of surprising benefits of drinking water and drinking a glass first thing in the morning can be a great way to perk you up, rehydrate yourself and get yourself going.
It’s a simple thing but carries a ton of positives. This is also the time I take my multivitamin supplements as well, to aid my health throughout the day!
It really is necessary to look at taking organic supplements because for some people, they might not get enough of specific nutrients through what they eat. Iron for example is a nutrient that only comes in a few different types of food.
Make yourself the best cup of tea
Or coffee. Or hot chocolate. Whatever your warm drink of choice. But be sure to really take your time with it. Be intentional about what you’re doing and start your day with this small, warm, loving act of self care for yourself.
Stretch your body
Some simple stretches really will do the trick here. It doesn’t need to be anything fancy and you certainly don’t need to get into a pretzel shape. But just stretching out from sleep will make you feel amazing. Skincare
If you only manage one small act of self care before you start work, I’d suggest this one. Tending to your skin and giving your skin some well needed love and attention in the morning after a night of sleep can really boost your mood and get you started for the day.
Read something
Reading is an important part of my life and I know that’s the same for a lot of other people who perhaps can’t find the time to read due to other commitments and responsibilities. And by the time you get into bed at night, you’re too wiped to pick up your book. In the morning before work can be a great time to get some reading in.

Even if it’s not a book and you’d prefer to read a blog post or a magazine, you can fit some reading time in whilst you eat breakfast, drink your tea, on your commute or perhaps just 10 minutes before you get up in the morning.
TOP TIP: Don’t use this time to read news articles of scroll through social media. Read something that you know if going to motivate, inspire or lift you up.
Say affirmations
The great thing about affirmations is they don’t need to take you long at all!
Do something small that you love
You might have already covered this point in something I’ve already suggested but I always find it important to do something small that I love before my working day starts. I like to practice Yoga and watch a little YouTube whilst I’m eating my breakfast. It’s those small things that perk me up before I sit down at my desk for the day.
Take a moment to be grateful
Whether this is in a gratitude journal or saying it out loud, there’s no right or wrong way to express gratitude. This is a particularly helpful thing to do if you feel like you’ve woken up on the wrong side of the bed and tends to curb the bad mood before it gets any worse.
Journal or script your ideal day
This will depend on how much time you have. If you have the time and want to script out your entire day in detail – go for it! If not and you just have time to jot down a couple of gratitudes from the point above or how you feel this morning or perhaps what you dreamt about last night, that’s fine too.

Tidy your space and water your plants
I can’t get on with my day until I know my space is tidy. I always tidy my bedroom and ensure my office is clean before I can fully get going. I also make sure my plants are watered. This is because this is your SPACE. And it deserves the respect that you give yourself. Your surroundings can seriously impact your mood and productivity; so don’t neglect this point if you can help it!
What things do you like to do before you start work in the morning? Do you do any of these? How does a morning routine impact your day? Let me know!
