Hand sanitizer has recently become a staple inside many of our purses and pockets as the pandemic highlighted the importance of regular hand hygiene in reducing infection and the spread of germs, bacteria and viruses. The Centre for Disease Control recommends using alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol, when soap and water are not available.

Is there a way to effectively use hand sanitizer? Should I sing Happy Birthday while washing my hands? These are all questions that might have crossed your mind during the coronavirus outbreak.

While everyone is singing Happy Birthday while washing their hands, I’m here humming “Prince Ali! Mighty is he! Ali Ababwa. Strong as ten regular men, definitely!” While I’m making sure my hands are clean as a whistle. You should do the same (with your favourite songs) and make sure that you wait until your hands are dry to touch anything.

But there is more! Properly applying hand sanitizer is as important as actually using it. Today, I’ve partnered up with Ocean Free hand sanitizer manufacturer and one of the leading manufacturer of hand sanitizer and disinfectants in the UK, to clearly explain how to properly apply hand sanitizer.

First, apply hand sanitizer to your hands and clean palm to palm. Then, interlace your fingers and clean in-between fingers. After that, clean the back of your hands, fingernails and thumbs. Don’t forget the wrists and rub your hands together until dry. And that’s it, you have clean and refreshed hands!

Protect you and the other around you by maintaining regular hand hygiene and by following the Government’s coronavirus advice and guidance, including wearing face masks and practising social distancing.

  1. Ooo this is a fab post! I always think back to the video at the beginning of all this when someone did a video with gloves and black paint and showed how much can be missed! xx

  2. Great tips Jenny! I’ve been carrying antibacterial handgel around with me for as long as I can remember because I hate germs. It’s so important to actually get the technique right otherwise using it is pointless! (Doesn’t surprise me that some people don’t know how to do it right though.)

  3. It’s so funny how people really aren’t applying it properly – even now! I get it though, people want to get their hands clean and move on with their day. This post should help SO many people! Thanks for sharing!

  4. This is such a great post. I’ve used hand sanitizers for many years so it doesn’t feel that different for me. However the way I’ve seen some people use them when going in a shop is shocking. One person pumped some onto their hand then literally clapped so it sprayed everywhere.

  5. I always carry sanitizer and I’ve been thanking myself that I always have some in my bag a lot more recently. It’s important to make sure you cover your full hands! x

Also love the new theme – it is so you! 😊
