ad | With the cost of living rising and the fact that we’re in another recession, it’s no surprise that many people want to save money on the necessities that make up their daily lives as well as cut the costs of the treats they allow themselves throughout the month

We all need to be sensible with money, learn how to budget and definitely teach our children about money so, throughout the generations, we can become an even more financially informed country.

But I also believe that life is worth living and we need those little treats to keep us afloat sometimes.

I don’t mean anything big or elaborate. As much as we’d all like a holiday in the Maldives. But sometimes that coffee from your favourite coffee shop or a new book can be the pick-me-up you need when you’re having a bad day.

So any help we can get on saving money and spending less money on our shopping is a bonus – especially food shopping which, obviously an essential, has seriously risen in price.

So, here are 9 easy ways to save money on your shopping:

Check out Refer and Save

Referral codes and vouchers can be a huge help in saving us money on the things we need to buy. Whether it’s food, skincare or tech. Imagine having a ton of referral codes at your disposal to help with these potential purchases?

Refer and Save offer just that, finding the best referral code and coupons which, having started by just sharing with their close family and friends, have since created the Referandsave website, so we can all benefit from them too.

They also have a great blog which contains a ton of money saving tips and how you can make the most of referral codes and keep you up to date on what’s happening in the UK with finance.

What deals and discounts do they have that I’d recommend?

  • Get £100 off your first 10 GoPuff orders (£10 each order): Perfect for stocking up on essentials and ideal for students looking to save some money and not go overboard on their grocery shopping.
  • Free Caffe Nero Barista prepared drink: This deal allows you to get a full set of 9 stamps, making you eligible for a free drink as soon as you’ve made your first purchase via the Caffe Nero app.
  • 200 free points on your Subway account: After making your first purchase through the Subway app, with this deal you can get 200 free points added to your account to go towards your next Subway.
  • £10 off your purchase at Bloom and Wild: With Mother’s Day coming up, this is a handy code to use as it’ll get you 10% off your purchase of flowers. This is one I’ll be using!

There’s a ton of discounts on Refer and Save, from groceries, to eating out, finance offers, beauty and fragrance and much more. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in the market for any purchases right now!

Download a receipt-scanning app

You might as well get rewarded for something you’re already doing, so downloading a receipt scanning app is a great option. You scan your receipts and get pay outs in vouchers which you can use on your next shop!

Download CashWalk

CashWalk is a great app which rewards you for walking. You can receive vouchers for Tesco, Amazon, Starbucks and more by cashing out when you reach a certain amount of points.

Join loyalty programs for places you regularly shop

I honestly don’t know what I’d do without my Tesco Clubcard! Clubcard prices can help you save SO much money during your weekly food shop – my shopping usually drops by at least £10 once I’ve scanned my Clubcard. But most places will do some sort of loyalty scheme.

Try dropping a brand-level

If you’re always buying premium or branded products, try dropping a brand level to the one below (Premium, Branded, Own-Brand, Basics) and see if you can tell the difference. If you can’t, why pay more?

Use what you have

Something I’ve really taught myself how to do, especially with food since I moved into my own home is using what I have and getting creative with ingredients I’ve got in the cupboard. It can even be fun!

Meal plan and meal prep

Meal planning your week can help you save money as it means when you head to the shops, you already know exactly what you’re buying and the amounts, instead of just throwing anything into your trolley.

Don’t ditch the leftovers

Use up leftovers! Even if it’s a small portion, this can be used to accompany another meal the day after. Don’t be scared of eating leftovers, as long as they’re re-warmed properly.

Use your cashback apps

Check your purchase is eligible through your cashback app and make sure you use it! Especially for higher priced items. This could see you saving up hundreds for the end of the year, which will save you money at Christmas!

  1. I have noticed our grocery bill each week has considerably gone up and so we’ve been looking for ways to make things go a bit further or save some money where we can. These tips are great, and I will be making use of them!

      1. Loyalty programmes are a great way to save money. I also use my points for days out, which saves money on attractions as well.
