AD – This is a pre-written post | Carpet, no doubt, provides comfort and warmth, but it requires much more attention than parquet or laminate. Whatever carpet is lying on your floor, it collects all the dirt in the house anyway, so you need to clean it regularly. This means vacuuming at least once a week and deep carpet cleaning twice a year. However, it is much easier and cheaper to keep it clean on a regular basis, so the thing will last you much longer.

To make the carpet a beautiful piece of decoration, and not a distributor of dust and unpleasant odors, we have collected for you the most popular carpet cleaning methods.

How to Choose Household Vacuum Cleaner?

It is difficult to imagine domestic carpet cleaning without a vacuum cleaner. What to look for when choosing such household device?

FILTERS

In most cases, vacuum cleaners are equipped with three levels of filtration. This is directly a dust collector (bag, container, and water tank), a pre-engine filter and a fine filter at the outlet. Pay attention to their quality – find out how often they need to be changed, whether it is difficult to find replacement filters on sale, etc.

Choose models with the ability to replace the pre-motor filter so that the equipment lasts longer. Fine filters are, as a rule, HEPA filters, which are assigned serial numbers depending on their efficiency. Choose vacuum cleaners with filters H12 and higher (up to HEPA H16, which retain up to 99.99995% of dust in the vacuum cleaner).

POWER

The more carpets, upholstered furniture and other fabric coverings you have in your house, the higher the power should be – from 350 W, especially if there are animals in the flat. For a flat without carpets, a power of 150 watts is enough. Battery-powered vacuum cleaners are usually quite low-powered, just like robotic vacuum cleaners.

Advantages of Using Robot Vacuum Cleaner

If you do not want to waste time cleaning the house, entrust this job to a smart assistant. The robot vacuum cleaner will easily clean up dirt while you are doing more enjoyable activities. Modern models are able to effectively remove debris throughout the room, including under furniture and in corners.

Some robot vacuum cleaners have the option to set a cleaning schedule and set up the automatic start of cleaning selected areas. The smart navigation system is equipped with infrared and elevation sensors. During operation, the robotic vacuum cleaner creates a map of the space and develops a route to make maintenance cleaning as efficient as possible. A good result is achieved due to the high suction power and the double brush system.

Steam Carpet Cleaning – Excellent Way to Refresh and Disinfect the Carpet

Carpet steam cleaning is another eco-friendly way for carpet maintenance, if you need to refresh and soften the carpet. This can be done yourself, or if you prefer, a professional Melbourne Carpet Cleaning company or similar in your area can do it for you.

Hot water extraction carpet cleaning can be done with a vacuum cleaner, a steam mop, or with a steam generator. Vacuuming must be done before steaming. This method is not suitable for all types of carpets.

Removing Stains from the Carpet

Before deciding on the choice of carpet cleaning method, it is important to know what material the carpet is made of: synthetic or natural. The nature of the pollution is also important.

To begin with, you should thoroughly vacuum the surface. If the stain is fresh, blot the excess as thoroughly as possible with a slightly damp paper towel or towel, do not rub, this will only increase your scope of work. Before applying the product to the stain, we recommend that you carry out the test on an inconspicuous area to be sure that the product will not spoil the material and colour.

Domestic Carpet Cleaning Products

This option is only suitable for coatings that tolerate moisture well:

  • Highly carbonated mineral water – helps to eliminate dried wine and tomato juice stains
  • Salt – absorbs fat well. Sprinkle salt on the stain for a few minutes, then – brush off the salt particles, if there is a trace – use soapy water.
  • Baking soda – It is excellent absorbent and can help you remove grease stains. Sprinkle baking soda over the stain, let it sit for 15 minutes, and then vacuum it.
  • Vinegar – removes fruit contamination (juices), copes with stains of chocolate, coffee, urine.

Dilute vinegar with water in a 1: 5 ratio, moisten a towel with the resulting solution and blot with dabbing movements on the stain so that it is completely saturated. After 20-30 minutes, remove the remaining vinegar solution with a damp clean towel with the same movements. For stubborn stains, try to combine efforts and apply soda to the dirt first, then vinegar solution on top, as a result of the reaction actively released carbon dioxide “knocks out” dirt particles.

  1. This reminds me of a conversation my husband and I were having the other day. The true cost of carpet. We must consider the power consumption used in keeping it clean. Our RV vacuum cleaner is one of our biggest energy hogs! (We live off grid and rely on solar panels, batteries, and a generator for our power). ❤️🦋🌀
