ad | Whether you’re travelling by plane, train or automobile, sometimes it can make us feel a bit grubby. Especially after the pandemic, with the heightened sense of urgency around germs and the spread of bacteria, I think we all realised that we probably could do with being a bit more hygienic and taking more precautions with our own hygiene.

And travel is one of the main situations in which we can make some changes and adopt some healthier habits when it comes to cleanliness. Whilst we can’t control how clean a train is, we can control our own actions.
Did you know, according to the National Science Foundation, the tray on a plane can contain 2,155 units of bacteria per square inch. To put this into perspective, the toilet seat in your home only has around 127. So if you felt the need, you’d be better of licking your toilet seat than the tray on a plane.
We should all adopt some healthier and cleanlier habits when it comes to travelling. At the end of the day, the very last thing we want when we’re travelling, going on holiday, travelling to see family or even for a business trip is to catch a cold or the flu. It’ll ruin our trip and make travelling even harder.
And when it comes to general cleanliness, it’s awful when you feel grubby and smelly whilst travelling and the only thing you can think about is when you can next have a shower!
So here are some easy ways to stay clean and hygienic whilst travelling:

Continue to wear a mask if you feel safer that way
Just because the pandemic is over doesn’t mean you have to rid yourself of any of the habits you picked up during that time to keep you safer. If wearing a mask makes you feel safer, then you absolutely should continue to do so whilst travelling, especially if you’re immuno-compromised.
Keep hand sanitizer in your bag
Hand sanitizer will never go out of style! We should all keep one in our bags and use regularly, especially whilst travelling, after touching hand rails or using public toilets.
Continue to follow rigorous hand-washing techniques
It can be tempting to get in and get out, especially if it’s a public restroom but never scrimp on your hand washing as it is one of the most effective ways to stay germ-free.
Pack some disposable face towels
Disposable face towels are a handy thing to pack which will benefit the whole family. Especially children who tend to get into a bit of a mess when they eat. These disposable face towels from Ditoi are affordable and will last you your entire trip.
Although these can be used within your skincare routine, they’re also ideal for travelling. They’re big enough to use on your hands and face, so even a great alternative to bathroom towels (which can harbour bacteria).
Suitable to use on all skin types, including sensitive skin, they can also be used on children and babies. Another perk of travelling!
Stay hydrated
Staying hydrated is always important when travelling. In hot weather, on planes, during a long trip – you should always carry a bottle of water with you. But did you know that hydration can also help the skin and mucous membrane cells act as a barrier to prevent bacteria from entering the body!
Don’t only eat junk food
I’m sure we’re all familiar with the feeling of sluggishness when we eat too much junk food. By all means, we should definitely treat ourselves whilst travelling or being on holiday but only eating junk food will lower your immune system and make it more likely for you to feel out of sorts.
Buy a travel sized deodorant
A travel sized deodorant is a must-have for travel. Small enough to pop in your bag, it can be a life-saver for topping up throughout your journey and helping you feel cleaner and more hygienic.
Pack a toothbrush and toothpaste
And finally, there’s NOTHING worse than forgetting to brush your teeth in the morning and only remembering a few hours later. You might not be on your “normal” schedule whilst travelling, so packing a toothbrush and toothpaste is a must-do to keeping clean and hygienic and not neglecting your oral health.

Awesome tips! These are things I always forget lol
Perfect time of year for this reminder 🙂
Great tips Jenny. If I’m going abroad I always pack some clothes essentials in my hand luggage too in case the baggage gets lost.
I love Ditoi. They are so strong.
