I’m going to start this post with a bit of self-praise, which is something I never, ever do. But the thing I like the most about myself is how organised I am, my organisational skills and my ability to stick to deadlines, work ahead of schedule and generally just never get in a flap about getting things done because chances are, I’ve already done it! I’ve always been an organised person to some degree; my homework was never late, I always used my planner well to keep track of homework deadlines and even in my bedroom as a child, everything had it’s rightful place. I was never a messy kid and I grew up to have a very Type A personality. I basically grew up and turned into Monica Geller. But back to the point, all of these skills and traits have served me really well in my blogging career, especially since I started taking blogging more seriously.
It’s that time of year again! It’s been a hot minute since I’ve been at school or college but I remember the ‘end of the Summer holidays’ feeling well. As someone who really rather enjoyed school, it was a mix between looking forward to what the next year had to offer. seeing my friends and getting back into that strict routine, slight apprehension of going back to new, harder classes and knowing that play-time was over and it was time to get my head down and get back to work. And if you’re approaching the end of school (or going into sixth form or college) chances are, you’ll also have exams coming up (which will come up quicker than you expect – trust me!) so that’s something else to add on to our growing plates of things to handle.
I’m a very tidy, organised, Type A sort of person and I hate with all my being having too much “stuff” and too many possessions. I hate mess, I hate having drawers heaving with crap and I hate keeping stuff I don’t really need. I know I sound like a bit of a clutter Nazi right now but literally the only stuff I have on display in my bedroom is what is on my bookcase (because no matter how much I hate clutter, I still take pride in my books). I think we can all benefit from having a bit of a de-clutter a couple of times a year but I know not everyone finds it as easy as I do to just throw things away without a second thought. So, if you’re in a position where you know you need to have a clear out but don’t know where to start, then consider this your handy guide of simple things you can de-clutter if you find it hard throwing stuff away.
Here’s a fact about me: I am obsessed with lists. I thrive off of organisation and lists are the main thing that keep my life in order. Or in as much order as the illusion of control can possibly give you. At this present moment I have lists on my phone of the following things; Blogging to-do’s, work to-do’s, things in the post, things I need to buy, payments I’m waiting to receive, Christmas presents I want to buy for people and more. I. Bloody. Love. Lists. But not only can they be extremely beneficial for “sorting shit out“, they can also be fun and therapeutic and a good way to be creative and unwind. They don’t all have to be boring old, “do taxes, do a good shop and put the bins out”. So I’ve concocted a list of lists (that is the most Jenny thing I could have possibly done) for you to try and get stuck in to if… like me… you’re obsessed with lists.
In July, I did a blogger box swap with Lydia from Mademoiselle Woman blog which I absolutely loved doing. It was great to take the time to find some bits and pieces for someone else that they’ll love and also receive a cute little package in the post for yourself too. So in November, I did another one, this time with the ever so lovely Emma. We set a £5 limit and stuck with stationery based items and I can’t wait to show you what I received from Emma!
If you know me but at all, you will know that I am very, very organised. I rarely toot my own horn (and no that’s not a euphemism for m a s t u r b a t i o n) but I pride myself on my organisational skills and looking like I have my life in order when I really, really, really don’t (cries). But seriously though, it’s one of the very few things I can honestly say, hands down that I am really fucking good at. Maybe it’s inate, my mum works in an office and quite frankly, the entire company would crumble without her. Or maybe it’s learnt. But whatever it is, it does come in super handy. So here are some of my tips and whatnot which I use to stay organised.
I’m not talking about New Years Eve, dressing up, having amazing plans and getting ridiculously drunk – in fact, I’m not one for bothering with New Years Eve plans anymore now I don’t drink or go clubbing – I’m talking about the scary prospect of a whole new year ahead of you. When you can leave the trials and tribulations of the previous year behind and, as cliché as it honestly does sound, have a fresh start. I’ve always found this transitioning period from one year to the next an important time and here’s some things that I’ve done – and still do – to help me get the New Year off to a positive start.
