AD – This is an advertorial but all thoughts are my own

It honestly seems like a MILLION years ago that the renovation on my home office started. Thanks to delays and a freaking pandemic, we’re finally at the decorating stage of the project. Just 9 months later than originally anticipated. But as they say, better late than never, right? And I’m so excited to finally be at this stage because who doesn’t love decorating?

Lick Home

The whole process has been a real experience; from the building of the office from scratch, sorting out the concrete to picking out paint colours and everything in-between. We’ve had to hire a skip, have our garden dug up figure out which types of concrete to use and so much more but it’s going to be SO worth all the fuss!

And like the Universe conspired to bring us together, I’ve been able to work with Lick Home on the painting stage of this project. I’d heard great things about Lick paint so I was excited to try them out for myself and hopefully find the perfect colour for my office. Spoiler alert: I did.

I was kindly sent a paint colour of my choice along with a full decorating kit and offered a colour consultation for this collaboration. So I’m excited to share my whole experience of working with Lick as well as the products and of course, that PERFECT colour I finally found!

My experience with the Lick colour consultation

So this collaboration start with a colour consultation with one of Lick’s colour experts. The process was incredibly simple. The session lasts for half an hour (although they are able to accommodate more time if you need help with multiple rooms) and is taken via a Whatsapp video chat. You pick the time and the date and get an confirmation email and voila!

My video colour consultation with Lick was with Sam and she was absolutely lovely. It was a very casual and relaxed call and I felt like I could chat very easily with her. She completely understood why I wanted the colour I wanted and my reasoning for wanting to decorate in a certain way. She had some incredible suggestions of her own as well which I’m definitely going to take on board when it comes to the finishing touches.

I told her the type of colour I was thinking of and literally the FIRST colour she showed me was perfect. She knew exactly what I wanted. I’d been looking around other places for a colour that resonated with me and I just couldn’t find it and I knew I wouldn’t be happy unless I did.

After the consultation I received a colour presentation from Sam, where she threw together some examples of offices with my colour on the walls along with client notes of what we went through during the consultation. Below is an example of one of the pages from the amazing presentation Sam sent me.

What I received from Lick

A few weeks after my colour consultation with Sam, I was sent one 2l tin of paint in the colour of my choice along with a full decorating kit from Lick to help out with the renovation of my office. My office isn’t that big, so this size paint should be just enough. Luckily with the quality of the paint being so high, you only really need one coat.

I also chose the eggshell finish of paint, which essentially has the same shine as an eggshell (imagine that). They also sell a matte finish but I decided to opt for eggshell because I just prefer it with a slight shine. I’m sure the matte is just as gorgeous though!

So what’s the colour and how does it look?

Well as you can see from the colour presentation above, I chose the colour Green 01. A beautiful, muted, sage green with a hint of soft grey. When I was picking my colour scheme, green came to mind straight away. Being an outdoor office, I wanted it to have an outdoorsy feel but at the same time as looking sophisticated and professional. And I think Green 01 encompasses all of that.

I was searching high and low for the perfect green. I didn’t want it too dark or too light. Nor too “baby green” that it looked more like a nursery than an office. As soon as I explained this to Sam, she knew exactly what I meant and this green hit the nail on the head. It was EXACTLY what I envisioned.

Obviously my office is still in the renovation stages right now so I can’t see what the colour looks like along with the rest of my decor, like my desk and furniture but as for the colour itself, I absolutely love it and I couldn’t be happier. It’s such a beautiful and calming colour – exactly what I needed in a room where I’m going to be spending a large majority of my day.

Thank you so much to Lick Home for providing the paint to help me with my renovation project. We all know that renovations can cost quite a bomb so this has really helped and it’s also provided me with my PERFECT COLOUR that I’m going to be so happy sitting in going forward.

Have you ever used Lick before? What do you think of my colour choice? How is your own office decorated? Let me know!

  1. I’ve never used Lick before but now very keen to try it, currently haven’t got a home office but working on it by renovating half the garage!

  2. This is so exciting that you’re making progress with your office!! This colour is gorgeous, and I totally get your reasons for it. Sounds like a great company!

  3. I’ve never used Lick but the company sounds amazing. I absolutely love the colour you chose, very natural and I’m sure it will look great when you’ve done and added finishing touches xxx

  4. I have heard so many great things about Lick paint. Its great that you can have a video call with an expert so that you can establish exactly what it is that you want. I can’t wait to see your office space when its finished.

  5. This must be such an exciting time! I love decorating and lockdown has made me redecorate the hallway, living room and my own bedroom 😂 I bet you are so excited to get into your office now! Also I love the colour you picked out, and I have not heard of this brand before but they sound wonderful! Xx

  6. Finding the right paint colour is always the most difficult part of decorating for me. I’ve made some bad choices in the past, so I’m much more cautious now. Lick sounds great, especially being able to talk to someone about the colour and tones you are looking for. Swatches you can pick up in-store are great, but they are never 100% accurate. Getting someone’s honest opinion and insight is super helpful x

  7. Wow! I am very impressed! I have bought a lot of paint, but never had a consultation like the one presented here. Wishing you many blessings as you decorate your new space! So exciting! It will be well worth all the work and planning…

  8. I find it so inspiring that writing about something can help fund our dreams. The colors you have chosen here for your home office are beautiful and that green in addictive!

I look forward to potentially seeing photos of your finished office once you move it; in it so good to have a writing space and I love seeing where fellow writers create. 🙂

  9. I’ve not heard of a paint consultation before, and what a great idea! I’m about to move into a new house so will definitely want to paint the walls – saving this post for future use! (P.S I love the green, totally a colour I would choose) xx

  10. Firstly, I adooore your colour choice! That’s something I would never think of myself but it is gooorgeous, and I think it’s perfect for home office. Secondly, love this service! For a single lady living alone with no eye for decorating this is like a godsend. xx

  11. I’m getting some serious decor vibes right now — I don’t have an office, just a desk in a sort of room/hallway (have no idea how to describe it, haha) and don’t think the landlord is going to do any redecorating nor let me do any. Loved this all the same — I absolutely LOVE the colour!

  12. I love this color!! I wish I could paint my walls. We live in a rented complex but there’s so many chips and I don’t see a point in fixing it if we’re planning to purchase soon! Lick has the cutest packaging!! Thanks for sharing x

  13. I haven’t used Lick before. The consolation process is intriguing. Normally I just stand for hours in Home Depot (lol). My room is in need of a refresher though.

    1. Honestly it’s my first time hearing about Lick. The color looks really pretty and now I want to renovate my place haha! I really can’t wait to see it come together!

  14. Wow I love your colour choice! This is just the type of consultation I need! I’m not sure if that’s offered here in Canada, but I will check it out for my next project. Thanks for sharing!

  15. I’ve not heard of Lick before but wow, what an amazing service. A colour consultation and a follow up presentation sounds so helpful. And the soft green you’ve chosen looks lovely on the tin – can’t wait to see the finished office when it’s on the walls now! xx

  16. I love those colours! cant wait to see it finished. Its quite calming and neutral, definitely what you need for an office! Would look lovely with some plants!

  17. Jenny, I absolutely love the colour you chose! Can’t wait to see the finished project! I love renovations, there’s always something that comes up, but the process can be stressful and satisfying at the same time, but I am all for it! Thanks for sharing x

  18. I love renovations a lot! They are always fun and exciting except they can be really stressful too. I have never heard of LICK HOME but it sounds like a great company. I am planning on renovating my home this month and creating a little work space/home office for myself and I’ll definitely be considering going with Lick Home when I get to the painting stage. You picked such fab colours and I would really love to see the finish work.

  19. Oh Jenny! What lovely paint choices. I can’t wait to see this all come together. Lick sound like they offer a great service. A consultation is a really good way of exploring what you really want.

I can be so indecisive about this sort of thing!

  20. I’m all for renovations. Especially when it is office one. I find it so important to have office area nicely designed. Space has such a big impact on my mood and productivity. I love the color your picked. It looks so nice.
