Smell is one of the most powerful senses and scent can illicit all types of feelings and memories from us – even from years gone by. I think it’s remarkable, really, how just a simple smell can allow us to be transported back in time, to a certain place, a specific memory or even a special person.

In the home, I think scent should be of utmost importance. The most obvious reason being that nobody wants to come home to a house that doesn’t smell nice or visit a house that doesn’t smell nice.

But also because your home is your space. It should be happy and safe (and obviously, I know that for many people, that’s not the case sadly) and using scents is a fairly simple way to evoke a plethora of feelings when you step foot in a new place.

My partner and I bought a house in February and we will be moving in in a couple of months. He keeps saying, “when we move in, I want candles to be burning all the time”, which is cool because I didn’t think he cared much about candles!

Nice to know we can go candle shopping together.

When we finally get into our home, I really want to elevate our living space and create a real warm, homey vibe that makes not just us but guests too, feel welcome and safe.

The wonderful thing about scents is that there’s so many different and beautiful ones to choose from and ones to cater to almost every taste. There are a ton of wonderful and ethical candle brands to choose from as well and I want to introduce you to one today.

Introducing Aluxury

Aluxury is a British luxury fragrance brand providing a variety of attractive aromas created to promote relaxation and trigger positive emotions.

Every luxury essential oil, candle, and reed diffuser carrying the Aluxury signature is carefully made in the United Kingdom, using premium essential oils and professional techniques.

They say:

By combining natural essential oils to create scents that captivate your senses in just the right way, we unlock ways to change your ambience in an instant.

It’s about giving yourself the freedom to elevate your mind, recharge your body, soothe your senses, and live life in a way that brings everything into alignment for the very first time.

Once you unlock the chance to do all these things in your own personal way, you unlock the future you’ve always wanted to live.

Going back to what I was saying about how powerful scents can be tied in nicely to the reason that Aluxury was founded, as one of the founders suffered from anosmia in 2020 and lost their sense of smell for over six months.

When it was regained, they had a newfound appreciation for the power of scent and its profound impact on mental health and well-being. Which I can’t say I’m surprised about. I couldn’t imagine losing my sense of smell.

I was offered a piece from their website and gorgeous collection of luxury candles, reed diffusers, essential oils, wax melts and more and whilst it was a tough choice, I am a sucker for a candle.

I decided to go for their Edulis Luxury Scented Candle as it says that this particular scent promotes happiness and is soothing and stimulating. Which very much sounds like what I need right now!

The packaging is beautiful. It’s simple yet elegant, which I think reflects the brands and their ethos perfectly.

I could actually smell the candle before I even took it out of the box, which is extraordinary. The Edulis candle gives off notes of grapefruit, Ylang Ylang and cedarwood and contains 10 natural oils to boot.

This particular scent is warming, not overly sweet but with a touch of floral but also smells fresh and clean with notes of citrus throughout. I’m not an expert on scents but I know a nice scent when I smell one and this was certainly one of those.

These candles are Vegan and cruelty free and also come in eco-friendly packaging. They retail at £23.99 which I think is a fantastic price and definitely competitive with others of a similar nature on the market.

For the scent strength, the Vegan and CF labelling and the 40 hour burn time (as well as supporting a small business in the process), I think £23.99 is excellent.

But not only that, 24p of each sale goes towards:

  • Offsetting certified ocean-bound plastic
  • Planting trees to cool down our planet
  • Mental health awareness and support

So not only are Aluxury creating beautiful, high-quality and eco-friendly products but they’re also putting their money where their mouth is and following through with their eco claims by helping external projects. 10/10 from me.

I’m really impressed with this candle, Aluxury and everything it entails. They absolutely tick all the boxes for me and I can’t wait to burn this in my new home (I’m definitely saving it for now!) and will likely be purchasing from them in the future for other scents too.

Here’s how I choose scents for each room of the house:

Living room

Something exactly like the Edulis candle from Aluxury should go in the living room. It’s a room you spend a lot of time and also a room your guests are more likely to spend the most time.

You don’t want anything that’s going to send them to sleep or anything too sweet that it might get a bit sickly. Something delicately floral, fresh and fruity is perfect for this room.

Kitchen

Candles in the kitchen are great to offset the smell of food, the rubbish bins, the fridge and anything else that might not smell the most rosy.

I would personally go for something citrussy in the kitchen. Not so much so that it smells like drain cleaner but something fresh and fruity that’s not going to clash too much with the natural smells you get in a kitchen. Vanilla is another good kitchen option.

Bathroom

For throughout the day, something energizing and revitalising is always good for a bathroom. Gentle citrus scents with soft spices and certainly nothing that’s going to send you to sleep.

But for that relaxing evening bath, you best bed I’m getting the lavender scents out.

Bedroom

This one depends on the type of mood you’re going for in the bedroom at any given time. If you’re wanting a fully relaxing vibe, then you absolutely can’t go wrong with anything lavender based.

If you’re burning a candle in the bedroom throughout the day, then something super fresh like fresh linen scent is the perfect go-to.

Office

For my home office, I’m going to want scents which promote inspiration, creativity and focus. I don’t want anything that’s going to relax me too much.

The Nostalgia Candle from Aluxury would be a perfect option for this, as it’s warm and can help you feel grounded and more focused.

Scents can be a wonderful and cost effective way to completely up level your home and the rooms you inhabit. They can help you (and guests) feel more warm and welcome and in a place you want to be.

Don’t forget to check out Aluxury before you leave and their wonderful range of Vegan and CF candles, essential oils, reed diffusers and more!

  3. What an interesting story behind the brand! I can totally imagine the newfound appreciation for scent. I love what you’ve picked out too – This would be the type of scent I’d go for if we didn’t have such sensitive noses/chests in the house. Love your pictures too! X
