ad collaborative post // Summer is finally here, you’ve made it through the winter yet again, and it’s time for some fun in the sun. So what’s the next step to getting out there and getting everything out of the season? Well, with all the time you’ve spent waiting for summer, you might not know what to do with yourself now that it has finally arrived. Hopefully, this guide will help you find some fun summer activities.
1. Backyard Camping
Camping doesn’t need to take you into the middle of nowhere. All you need is a tent and a backyard to have a good time with your family and friends. Camping in your backyard is a great way to avoid paying for a campsite and long commutes, and you can do it whenever you want. Are the kids getting a little rowdy on a particular night? With friends and not sure how to spend the night? Backyard camping is the perfect wholesome and fun activity.
2. Go to a Local Farm
Going to a farm can be a great activity during the summer. This is a great way to enjoy the weather and maybe even take home some fresh fruit. Many local farms also offer family-friendly activities like hayrides or corn mazes.
3. Go for a Hike
Taking a hike is another great way to enjoy the beautiful summer weather. There are many different places to hike, regardless of where you are. Hiking is great exercise, and the view at the end will always make the trip worth your while.
4. Visit Family
Now that the kids are off, the summer is the perfect time to visit family. Visiting family and reconnecting with them is a great time, no matter the season. Whether going to a local senior home or just to grandma’s, visiting family is a recipe for a good time. Often, a senior living campus will host activities for families.
5. Arts and Crafts
Arts and crafts aren’t just for kids. Learning how to fold an origami swan or trying your hand at painting is a great way to enjoy the summer! Sitting outside and enjoying the weather or getting away from the rain are both ways to enjoy arts and crafts. No matter the weather, drawing with friends or family is a great summer activity.
6. Go for a Road Trip
Summer is one of the best times to go on a trip. Visiting a nearby place and discovering new things to do is exciting and always pleasantly surprising. Whether you’re going to the next town over or halfway across the country, a road trip can be an excellent opportunity to mix things up and have a great time (let’s just hope gas prices start to go down).
7. Go to a Concert
Going to a concert is another great way to spend your summer. There are many free or very inexpensive concerts in your town, which can be found on social media and town websites! These festivals and concerts – like the Suicide Boys concert – are a great way to spend time with friends and family. No matter the genre or artist, it is always entertaining to go and see some live music.
8. Watch a Movie
Not every day of the summer is going to be perfect. Going to a local cinema and watching a movie is a great way to get out of the rain and have a good time with friends. For instance, people in and around Scottsdale often visit Landmark’s Scottsdale Quarter Theatre for the latest movies and lip-smacking food. This palace is often filled with friends and family having a great time among themselves.
Your town may even be hosting a film festival or event, so make sure to keep an eye out.
All of these are great activities for families and friends. Make sure to make the most out of your summer and give one of these ideas a try. Have a great summer!

Thanks for sharing, these summer activities sound great to do 🙂
So many great ideas here Jenny! I love a good road trip, one of those were you stay up all night driving and chatting and singing away while you see the rest of the world go by! Some of our best memories are in the car travelling around with our parents xx
What a wonderful list of summer activities Jenny! Summer is my favourite season as it opens up so many possibilities. Thanks for sharing.
