ad | There are many different types of weddings to have and over the years, weddings have become more and more personal and personalized to the couple getting married. Although traditional weddings are still very popular, they’re certainly not the only option anymore – which is great!
I’m not getting married any time soon but, like most girls, I’ve definitely had a little think about what I might want should the occasion arise.
Considering I don’t have many friends, I wouldn’t want to opt for a big wedding and rather go for something smaller and more intimate.
I’m not really a long white dress sort of person either, so that’s something I’d have to consider. Personally, I think I’d look like a giant marshmallow and that’s not something anyone wants to see.
If you’re due to get married, it’s probably a confusing and stressful time for you.
It’s likely you both have a ton of ideas of what you might want from the day – some conflicting opinions as well! So it’s important to have all the options in front of you so you can both choose wisely.
In this post, we’re going to look at a handful of different types of weddings to have that are available to you. And hopefully something in this post sticks out to you when planning a wedding!
4 Different Types of Weddings To Have
Traditional wedding
Let’s start with the obvious one and that’s the traditional wedding. This type of wedding will typically consist of a structured day of the service – usually within a church or other religious location or wedding venue – photographs, a sit-down 3-course meal followed by a night of dancing and usually a buffet for evening guests.
Other things that you’re likely to see in a tradition wedding are the big white dress, throwing of the bouquet, speeches and the bride and grooms first dance. This is a popular option because the structure is very standard and most companies will work within that structure.
Elopement wedding
An elopement wedding is a popular choice for those that don’t want the fuss of the “big day” and just want to get married and be married. Traditionally, couples wouldn’t tell anyone they were eloping and get married in secret but that’s not typically the case these days.
The most typical elopement you’d think of is Vegas but did you know that you can elope anywhere? There are companies, such as NY1 Minute, which can be considered your one stop elopement shop, as they do everything for you and ensure you have the best elopement experience!
For example, if you want to get married in The Big Apple, they’re able to offer you a full elopement package, to ensure everything is legal, documented and most importantly, special for the couple! DIY wedding
A DIY wedding is basically what it says on the tin! A wedding in which the couple getting married can curate it exactly how they like, often opting to choose for making things for the big day, such as the wedding favours or table decorations. These types of weddings are great for those who are on a budget and also for those who don’t want traditional.
Of course you can mix and match traditional elements and a DIY wedding together. Sticking to the structure but making things yourself or still going for the long, white dress. That’s the beauty of a DIY wedding, there are no rules!
Destination wedding
This is a popular choice and it’s easy to see why. A destination wedding will definitely look different from a traditional wedding in a church. For a start, there’s a chance there might not be as many people attending, due to the money and time restraints of travel. It may be a much more intimate wedding, with super close family and friends only.
If you choose a beach wedding, then usually the dress code is a little more formal but regardless of the destination, a lot of couples like to match their wedding décor and theme to the destination their in. Destination weddings CAN be a cheaper (and less stressful option) but they can also have the opposite effect.
Of course there are more types of weddings you can have and anything in between these options as well. That’s the beauty of weddings, you really can make it yours and yours alone.
I love all these ideas as they sound like such a wonderful way to celebrate the day (it’s so great that weddings can be so different and fitted to suit the couple). I didn’t have a wedding, just a quick trip to the courthouse (it was just me and my husband, which was perfect for us) and going for some Chinese food afterwards — we sort of eloped, haha!
Ah sounds lovely actually!!
