Valentine’s Day has always been typically reserved for couples and to recognize romantic love – which of course is great – but it’s very niche and ignores the various other types of love in the world.

Friendship and family love deserves to be celebrates just as much, so getting the kids involved in Valentine’s Day activities and enjoying the occasion as a whole family is great.

Here are 6 ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day with the family:

Do some baking with the kids

Baking is always a fun activity and the great thing is is that you can adapt the ingredients and decorations based on what you’re celebrating. For Valentine’s Day, try some sweet fruit and chocolate creations and get the kids involved!

Decorate with heart theming

There’s never a bad time to decorate, so if you want to spread some extra love with the family this Valentine’s Day, decorate together! You could make decorations together and decorate the house as a Valentine’s Wonderland.

Dress up and wear matching outfits

We take a lot of matching photos around Christmas time but what about for Valentine’s too? Getting some family matching shirts is a lovely idea to mark the occasion or even matching family hats if you want to go all out!

Write a list of everything you love

This is a great activity for all the family. As adults, we’re often so busy, we rarely sit down and give ourselves time to think, appreciate and feel gratitude for all the things we love in our lives.

And this is a great exercise for kids too, as it allows them to stop and slow down and think for themselves.

Watch a cute film together

You can combine most of the above and settling down for a cute movie night together to mark the occasion – a film with a beautiful underlying message of love. Get your Valentine’s matching shirts on, the snacks you made earlier and settle down for the evening.

Make homemade Valentine’s cards

And finally, Valentine’s Day is a great occasion to get creative – especially with the kids. So get some supplies in and spend a few hours making homemade Valentine’s Day cards. They might want to make one for their grandparents, best friend or siblings.
