ad | If you’re a teacher, hopefully right now you’re looking forward to some rest and relaxation over the Christmas period. Teachers work incredibly hard throughout the year, so you definitely deserve it. You’re winding down for the end of the calendar year and gearing up for a new term, fresh in January 2024.

The New Year is a great time to reset and recharge and get organized and productive for the 12 months ahead.
And not just for teachers, either. I love the end of the year and beginning of the New Year for the exact same reason. To rest, first and foremost. Then to recharge and recalibrate for the year ahead.
I always find I’m super productive around this time because I want to get the New Year off to a good start – a start I hope to continue throughout.
Although arguably a more important time for teachers is preparing for a new SCHOOL year (which takes place in September), a new calendar year is another great chance as well.
So in this post, we’re going to look at some simple ways you can prepare for the new year as a teacher:

Reflect on the past year as a teacher
First and foremost, I think it’s important to do some reflection before moving on to anything else. Reflection is a great starting point and base for building upon. So take a look back at your past year as a teacher. You might want to:
- Write down some personal achievements from the past year
- Write down some achievements you’ve witnessed in your students
- Write down a gratitude list for the last year
Identify what you might want to change going forward
After reflection, I believe comes analysis. This is where you can analyse what happened in a more structured way and turn those reflections into action-based changes.
For example, perhaps your morning routine isn’t working quite how you want it to and you’re feeling rushed and flustered in the morning before you get to school. This can be something to address.
Prepare for upcoming events
In a teachers life, there are so many different events to plan for throughout the school year, including Christmas, Halloween, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and more.
You might want to look at teacher t shirts to see if there’s any you can use for your upcoming events. There are some great teacher valentine shirts you can look at for Valentine’s Day for example.
Set some goals
New year means new goals and as a teacher, you can definitely benefit from this. Especially by using what you found in your reflections and analysis exercises from the previous years.
Your goals could be based on your work / life balance or your teaching style, maybe your daily routine or some events or projects you have in mind.
Get some new stationery
I’m never one for buying stuff that you don’t really need and by all means, if you don’t need any new stationery then you absolutely shouldn’t buy stuff for the sake of it.
But if you love going into a new year with brand new stationery, then this is a great time to invest! You might want to grab yourself teacher tote bags as well to carry your books in.
