ad | Sport is one of the best ways to bring people together. And every four years, fans from all corners of the globe will gather together to support their teams in the pinnacle of football but also one of the most exciting sporting events and a real global celebration. The excitement will be palpable from adults and children alike who are keen to shout and cheer for their favourite players this Summer.

Watching sport is a very social event. I don’t mind watching a football match or a Formula 1 race by myself but it’s always so much more fun and exciting with other people. Whilst I’m not one to rush to the pub to watch sport, I’d much rather host my own watch party from the comfort of my own home, with a smaller group of friends or family.
If, like me, you’d prefer to get involved with the football at home, then a watch party should definitely be on your list of things to do this Summer! From 11th June to 19th July, teams will be having it out on the pitch, so you have plenty of opportunity to host a brilliant watch party and create some core sporting memories this Summer!
Tips for hosting your own football watch party at home:
Get your watching set up sorted to enhance the experience
If your TV and audio isn’t up to scratch then you’re not going to get the best experience during your Wwatch party. You want it loud and immersive. Clear and big enough for everyone to see. Very.co.uk can help with everything you’ll need for the most exciting watch party with a range of Smart TV’s and portable speakers, so everyone can comfortably be involved!
Make food the focus
Apart from the actual match of course, food is going to be a main focus of your watch party because there’s nothing better than gathering a group of friends or family round to watch something you all enjoy whilst feasting on yummy food at the same time. There are loads of different food options you can go for:
- A BBQ: if it’s warm enough outside or even if it’s not – it is Britain after all
- A takeaway: Can’t be bothered cooking? No problem! Order a load of pizzas and everyone will be happy
- Party food: This is what I opted for because I love a “picky bit” dinner and party food always goes down a treat
- Organize a potluck: If you’re struggling for time or money, organize a potluck so everyone brings one dish
Get creative with the drinks
If you’re a family of beer drinkers, then crack on! But if you fancy doing something a bit more creative, why not create some football inspired cocktails for your watch party? Perhaps a couple of different drinks which take inspiration from the teams that are playing or the positions on the field. Midfielder Mojito or Goalie Gin anyone?
Don’t forget the decorations
If you’re going to host a watch party, you might as well do it properly. Get some decorations in to really set the scene. You can get loads of affordable football party decorations online which you could definitely keep and use again for children’s birthday parties or other football themed activities in the future.
Include some games in the mix
Keep the fun going and include some of your own games in the mix! Throughout the match, the adults might want to have fun with some drinking games and afterwards (if the weather is nice), get everyone outside for a kick about during half time or get some bingo cards to play during the day!
A favourite game of mine which I have played before is the National Anthem Game, where the winner or winning team gets a prize. The “host” will play various National Anthems from around the world and the team to get the most correct wins. Get creative with prize ideas! Or maybe the loser has to do a forfeit.

I hope this post has given you some ideas of how you can host the best football watch party with your friends or family this Summer! Remember, sport is supposed to be a positive and joyous experience. So keep it fun and carefree and enjoy the day!
