I was roughly a month late to the Disney+ but as soon as I got it, I never looked back! Disney+ has definitely made my lockdown experience better and if you have Disney+ yourself, I’m sure you’ll agree. As a lifelong Disney fan, it’s an absolute dream to have all the Disney content I could possibly want in one place. With all my favourite classics, remakes and new exciting documentaries as the click of a button.

What I'm Watching on Disney+

I’m actually very new to a lot of the stuff on Disney+. Can you believe I’ve not watched any Marvel films? But again, now they’re there in one easy to reach place, I’m definitely going to make a point of watching them! Disney+ is so much more than just the classics we all know and love. And I was pleasantly surprised to see the huge range of movies and TV shows for people of all ages on there.

So, if you have Disney+ and need some recommendations of things to watch, here are some movies and shows that I’ve been loving right now!

1. The Imagineering Story

This series is absolutely fantastic and would highly recommend for any hardcore Disney fan. It follows the story of how Walt and his team of Imagineers built the Disney parks with some incredible old footage and behind the scenes stories and anecdotes. It’s been a HUGE eye opener for me to see the work and dedication that the Walt Disney company had in making their parks a success.

2. Lady and the Tramp (2019)

The Lady and the Tramp remake was everything I could ever want and more. I’m a huge fan of the remakes already and this one has to be one of the best. The real life dogs just made it so magical and heart-warming and it’s just the cutest film I’ve ever seen. Definitely one to watch.

3. The Lion King (2019)

Another remake on the list – obviously. And the reason it took me until now to actually watch this was because I cry SO MUCH that my boyfriend point blank refused to come to the cinema with me to see it. The last time I saw this in the cinema – for the 10th anniversary – I had to leave because I was making such a scene from crying. But anyway, the remake is INCREDIBLE. So funny and the animation is out of this world.

4. Diary of a Future President (2020)

Is this series a bit cheesy? Yes. Okay very. But I enjoy it. It’s a quick and easy watch and I’m a sucker for any YA, coming of age style story. This series is about Elena who eventually grows up to be the President of the United States but we follow her journey through high school, friendships and growing up. My favourite character is actually her mum, who’s played by Selenia Leyva.

5. Stargirl (2020)

Who called for yet another cheesy coming of age story? Probably no one but here we are, with another cheesy coming of age recommendation. I’m a sucker for them, okay? And personally, I loved Stargirl. Was it weird? Yep. But for me, it really epitomized the power of kindness and positivity on those around you. Stargirl was an enigma – but I loved her. I came away from this film wanting to dance and kick my shoes off so I’ll consider that a good sign.

6. Aladdin (2019)

Another running theme within this post is the Disney remakes – which as you know, I absolutely LOVE. I watched this for the second time this month and I enjoyed in even more the second time around. I love Jasmine’s character arc and additional story-line within the remake and I think it’s just a huge spectacle of a film. I’d highly recommend giving this a go if you haven’t already, if you want something fun and visually outstanding.

7. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019)

As soon as this was released on Disney+ on May 4th, Carl and I settled down to watch it. And it was brilliant to watch again! I personally loved The Rise of Skywalker and thought it was a good end to the trilogy. So if you’re a Star Wars fan and haven’t caught up on Episode 9, this is a good recommendation for you!

8. Coco (2017)

It took me far too long to finally get around to watching Coco but… how goddamn BEAUTIFUL is that movie? I was hooked right from the beginning. The storyline was beautiful. The animation was stunning. The music was extraordinary. It was just perfect. Would highly recommend a watch if you haven’t seen Coco already. And be prepared to cry ugly tears at the end!

What having you been loving on Disney+ right now? Any recommendations for me? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I haven’t watched any of these, I have some of the originals….rise of Sky Walker will be watched at some point

  2. I love disney! I only had it for a week with the free trial but omg it was amazing. Lady and the tramp has been my fave movie since I was a little girl so was super impressed at the real life version. I actually watched Tangled and Moana for the first time on disney+ which are now part of my favourites list, would deffo reccomend if you haven’t watched already x

  3. I’m a huge disney fan. Two films I think are massively underrated are Little Mermaid II and Peter Pan: Return to Neverland. I’ve never watched Lady and the Tramp, I definitely need to watch it!

  4. Omg so funny you wrote this post, I wrote a whole post about The Lady and the Tramp! I am loving Disney+ too LOL And I love all of the ones you mentioned, though I have not seen Coco or the one you described as coming of age. I guess I ought see Coco though. Lemme see, what else did I watch on there…The Hunchback of Notre Dame which I used to have on VHS. It’s somewhere still. Oh, and Willow, which back in the day was the best! And is still a really great movie now. Gosh, there’s just so much on there. I really have to watch Fatansia again because they hardly ever let that out of the Vault. Beautiful animation that tells its own story set to classical music.

  5. I need to get Disney+ already. I’m dying to rewatch Hannah Montana, Suite Life, That’s So Raven etc. more than anything haha. Coco is one of my favourite films! I’ve been trying to get my mum to watch it with me but she refuses to after me saying how much I sobbed at the end 😂 I also haven’t seen a single Star Wars?? And like 2 Marvel films? So it might be time to sort that out haha.

  6. I absolutely loved Coco 😍 I watched it for the first time when I got Disney+
I think I’m going to watch the Aladdin remake today!

  7. I have LONG been a fan of the “Three Men and a Little Lady” film duology, so those are definitely my two favourite films on Disney+ atm!! So far, I’m really enjoying watching Mandalorian, and although I’m scared of Episode 9, I do plan to tuck into it soon. (Episode 8 was a let down for me, ngl :’)) How have I not seen the latest Lady & the Tramp???? Need to do that asap. And yes, Aladdin (2019) is BRILL!! Love that film xx

  8. I still don’t have Disney+ but I need it! I’m definitely getting it in time for the Hamilton film, but your list might sway me into getting it early. I’ve never watched ANY of the live action remakes – that’s bad isn’t it?! Also the number of people who have recommended Coco is wild, I still need to see that too! I’m so behind haha! x

  9. I still haven’t tried Disney+ and not only have I never seen a Marvel film, I also didn’t know that marvel was anything to do with Disney? Ooops. I’m glad you’re loving it and it’s helping to pass the time in lockdown x

    1. Haha, I haven’t seen any Marvel films either! And Disney bought the rights to Marvel but that’s not something I’d have known if I hadn’t watched The Imagineering documentary!

  10. We got the free trial of Disney+ but I just can’t justify it unfortunately, although I do love a good Disney movie. We used it to re-watch 101 Dalmations, plus catch up on all the Pixar shorts I hadn’t yet seen. Still need to watch Coco, too!

  11. I don’t have Disney+ yet but I feel like I’d watch so many things on it, I’m so conflicted about getting it or not!! I haven’t even seen the newest Star Wars film yet and I usually always go to the cinema as soon as a new one is released so that would deffo be on my watch list.

  12. I need to do a better job of watching content on Disney+! I went back to watch the OG snow white the other day. Oohoohoh I need to catch up with the Lady and the Tramp!! Star Wars was such a great movie. I might watch it again! Thanks for sharing!

  13. I was slightly disappointed by the Lion King remake, purely because I love the original so much. The CGI was great, but I didn’t feel anything the way I do with the original. The Aladdin remake was soooo good though! My current guilty pleasure is Fairytale Disney Weddings…..

  14. Aww this is really making me want to get Disney+! I haven’t seen the Lion King remake yet but can’t wait now after reading your review. And is Stargirl based on the book? If so, I loved that book growing up and would love to check out the series. Plus Hamilton is coming out on the platform soon!

  15. I don’t have Disney + but I didn’t realise there was so much stuff on there! I’ve loved Lady & the Tramp since I was a kid 🙂

  16. Great post! I absolutely adored Coco, and I loved the book “Stargirl” so will definitely have to check out the movie. Also, I loved watching all the Marvel films in order of the events. It was a huge undertaking but so fun to end with the final Avengers movie. I think there are sites that talk about the “correct” order to watch them, rather than by release date. Anyway, thanks for sharing!

  17. I love the movie Coco ever since it came out! It has to be one of my favorite recent Disney movies because of the beauty of the story and the visuals. I learned many of the songs from the film to, though I had to give up on the ones in Spanish . . . 🙂

  18. Why haven’t I got Disney+ right now?! Am I the only one? I didn’t even comprehend that Disney owned so much. I need to have a serious chat with my partner later and get Disney+ ASAP.

  19. I still haven’t seen 2019’s version of Aladdin but maybe this is the perfect time to watch! My sister and I have been watching The Simpsons and laughing nonstop. Saw Tangled for the first time and I’m hooked! I’ll have to check out the new version of Lady and The Tramp, had no idea it was on Disney+

  20. I’ve been resisting getting Disney+ because I have quite a lot of the films I know I’d watch on DVD, but I’m still very tempted! The Lion King and Aladdin were two of my favourites from last year – I remember crying in the cinema during the opening scene of The Lion King and my friends found it hilarious 😂 Aladdin was great too, all of the visuals were so pretty and I think while no one can replace Robin Williams as the genie, Will Smith did a pretty good job and made the character his own. I’m quite keen to give Lady and the Tramp a watch too! x

    1. I totally agree, Robin Williams will always be the Genie but Will Smith did a fantastic job and changed the dynamic of the character so there really isn’t much comparison to the original x

  21. I’ve been debating getting Disney + lately. I still haven’t done it though! I haven’t seen Coco yet either but so many people love it xx

  22. Love this post 💘. Disney+ has definitely saved me from going completely crazy during this lockdown 😂. Love Fairytale Weddings, to be fair I’ve loved rewatching all the Disney shows I loved when I was younger.

  23. I recently invested in Disney plus but I’ve only watched a few things so far – so I’ll have to give these a try! Thanks for sharing x

  24. I’ve been ummimg and ahhing about Disney+ for ages! And I’m still not sure if I should get it!? Even with all the nostalgic Disney shows on their, along with classic movies, Marvel and Star Wars. I really do want to see the Lady and the Tramp remake though! I loved the Jungle Book and Aladdin remakes (not so much The Lion King or Dumbo though).

  25. A lot of these recommendations of yours I’ve heard of it or I’m curious of how good they are before watching. Like with the Lion King, do you think the live action one is better or the animated? I’m a Star Wars fan myself but personally I’m not a huge fan of Rise of Skywalker because it’s a bit of a service to Luke and Anakin and their purpose as the main characters. It may be a fitting ending to the new trilogy but for me not for the Skywalker saga of films that includes the prequels too. Each to their own though. I’m watching Clone Wars and I’m loving ever single minute of it and I’d recommend watching it if you havent already.

    1. I’ve not seen Clone Wars but it’s on my list! I see what you’re saying about Rise of Skywalker. As a film, I thought it was fab. I liked where the story went but I’m very much “done” with the Skywalkers now haha!

  26. I have Disney+ but I haven’t watched anything on there yet. But I love that there is all the animal programmes on there too. But going to have a bit of a self care Sunday this week, so I might have to choose something from Disney+ to watch. I hope you are staying safe xxx

  27. Awesome list here Jenny! I don’t have Disney+ subscription yet but my friend does so I’ll definitely be making use of her membership! haha, I was hoping Coco would be on this list and it was so I’m happy you loved it too! It’s one of my favourite films out of the newer stuff for sure. I haven’t seen a lot of the other ones you recommended but I enjoy Y/A coming of age movies so I’ll check these out! xx

  28. I love Disney+ more than my kid does 😂 Still can’t bring myself to watch Coco cos I have a feeling it will destroy me 😭💔

  29. I don’t have Disney+ as I’ve got the worst internet connection and speed ever. I haven’t actually seen any of your recommendations, but I want to see Coco as I think that, besides Cars 3, it’s the only Disney Pixar film I haven’t seen yet. I’m not keen on the live action remakes but I wouldn’t mind seeing Lady and the Tramp, I loved the original. The Imagineering series sounds really interesting too. I’ve seen quite a lot of the Marvel films and… I still haven’t got a clue what’s going on in half of them 😂 I’m sure I’ll end up getting Disney+ at some point! Thanks for sharing! xx

  30. Oh my gosh Coco was one of the best films I’ve ever seen, and it’s absolutely heart-wrenching and I cry every time i watch it haha. I am so thankful that Disney+ exists! Can’t wait to watch Frozen 2.

  31. Disney was my childhood. I’ve fallen behind with it but will definitely keep it up now. Didn’t know there are so many new ones ! Disney movies are just magic

  32. As a mommy of one we LOVE Disney+! Disney Fairytale Weddings is my favorite watch right now, and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is my daughters favorite. Love your blog!

  33. Hey Jenny,
I don’t have Disney+ but I do love a good Disney film and Lady and The Tramp is my favourite. I would love to see the remake though! I also love Star Wars so would definitely enjoy watching The Rise Of Skywalker! Coco is just such an amazingly beautiful film Jenny, I’ve seen it twice and each time I cry!
    xoxo

  34. I actually really enjoyed star girl and I wanted to watch diary of a future president too but I wasn’t sure if it’d be too “young” for me. Also EVERYONE has told me I need to watch Coco!
    -Kyra xx

  35. This is an exceptional recommendations list. It’s filled with soooo many of my personal faves. Coco, Aladdin and The Lion King. Absolutely love them. I can’t believe a Disney kid like myself doesn’t have Disney +. I feel like I need to fix it pronto.

  36. We are huge Disney Plus fans in our house, it’s been a blessing during Lockdown! I’ve been reluctant to wath the Lion King remake, but I must give it a go. Coco was also one I was unsure of, but the animation and colours look amazing. I just hate getting all emotional through these movies! xxx

  37. I’ve still yet to watch The Lady And The Tramp! I absolutely loved Coco! That movie will always be one of my favorites.

  38. Such great recommendations! More people need to see Coco, I’m surprised a lot of my friends haven’t seen it! It made me cry so much x

  39. I am in love with Disney! I cant believe I haven’t watched Lady and the Tramp yet! I have watched Lion King though and it is one of my favourites!

  40. Oooh my goodness, Disney <3 It's incredible how much the old animations have affected the way I've traveled through life. All those independent princesses were my absolute idols as a child and come on, could there be anything better to influence a child than Disney? I constantly have Disney marathons where I watch the original animations and oh they make me so happy ^_^ xxx

  41. Oh I *adored* The Imagineering Story! If you are into more Disney Parks/behind the scenes action, I’d definitely recommend ‘One Day at Disney’ – it’s a one hour special, and then has a series of shorts to go alongside it 🙂 Rosie x

  42. I’m a big disney fan, but never seen any of the marvel films either, this free time has allowed me to start them though and I’m really enjoying them! The imagineering story looks great, they are next for me

  43. Absolutely love Disney+
Like yourself I am a huge Disney fan!!
I love watching the old classics on there like Pollyanna a film I haven’t watched since I was a little girl and got excited to watch it with my little girls who loved it, the original Pete’s Dragon is also another fav of mine.
