Since I’ve been getting serious about saving money to (finally) buy my own home, I’ve been thinking about interior design a LOT. That means a lot of time scrolling through Pinterest and lusting after some of the incredible designs. Interior design is such an incredible way to express yourself and make your space truly how you want it so its safe to say I am SO excited to eventually decorate my own place. If you’re like me and love a bit of interior design, you might be interest in today’s post about a Summer bedroom transformation!

I think the concept of transforming a room depending on the season is really cool. If I had the time or the patience to do this on a more regular basis, I absolutely would. Or perhaps I can do that with my garden office which is getting built this Summer!

And Summer is a great season to get creative with your interior decor because there’s so many gorgeous options to choose from and routes you can go down with a theme / colour scheme and more. I’d quite like to wake up every morning in a coastal themed room and image I’m waking up in a cute little beach house somewhere tropical.

But of course that’s not an option for me – or most of us for that matter! – so we’ll have to stick to a Summer bedroom transformation in our own homes instead. Which can definitely still be a lot of fun!

Summer bedroom transformation

Ready for your Summer bedroom transformation? Here are 5 interior ideas for you to try:

Think about your colour scheme

Switching up your colour scheme is a really easy but effective way to give any room a transformation it deserves. From wall paint to curtains to the decor you have scattered around, everything can play a part in your room’s colour scheme. For Summer, some great colour schemes to consider are:

Cream with pops of bright and vibrant colours

White or cream is always a good colour choice but to really go with the Summer vibe, it looks amazing when you add in pops of bright and vibrant colours to your room. These splashes of colour can be in throw pillows or prints on the wall.

Light, white and airy

A great option for Summer, especially due to the weather. The light, white, and airy interior of a room will make things feel more calming and provide a clean base to your bedroom design. To make a white room more interesting, mix it up with different textures and materials. If you naturally have a fairly dark room, then using lighting will help with this too. You can try table lamps or gorgeous natural wicker pendant lamps, like those from Kouboo.

Soothing blues

I love a soothing blue and this is a great choice for a Summer bedroom transformation. Of course the blue is associated with the blue sky and the sea – both predominant features of Summer and blue is also an incredibly soothing colour. This design can also be complimented with a Grey divan bed.

Go for a theme in your Summer bedroom transformation

As well as a colour scheme, you might also want to go for an entire theme for your Summer bedroom transformation. Think a nautical, coastal, tropical or a Moroccan themed interior, which are all great options for Summer! Creating an entire theme for your Summber bedroom transformation can be so much fun and really get the creative juices flowing!

Home decor for your bedroom transformation

As well as the big things like furniture, flooring, walls and windows, the little pieces of home decor can also make a huge difference in transforming your bedroom this Summer. And let’s face it, we ALL love to go shopping for home decor items, so this part of your transformation process could be really fun. Depending on your colour scheme and/or theme, you might want to think of things like prints, plants, trinket dishes, fairy lights, ornaments, crystals, books etc for added decor in your bedroom.

If you love to create DIY projects, it is also an option to create your own decor items, such as cute summer themed posters. This is a great way to save a bit of money, as you can simply download premium fonts for free or free clipart designs from a website like Creative Fabrica.

Flooring is everything

The flooring of your room can have SUCH an impact of the theme and vibe it gives off. A really dark floor – although looks extremely classy and sophisticated – doesn’t scream Summer to me. However a white wood or distressed wood style floor can be beautifully transformed into a beachy themed room, which is just perfect for Summer. They also make the room lighter and airier – which is ideal if your bedroom is small.

Don’t forget the practicalities

And lastly, I know it’s so easy to get into the design and interior aspect of transforming a room but don’t forget the practicalities of Summer as well. It’s highly unlikely you’ll want a lot of fluffy throws and blankets around when it’s pushing 30 degrees outside. And it’s also worth making some extra room (if you can) for a fan or air conditioner. I don’t know about anyone else but I would absolutely DIE in the Summer without a fan!

  1. Great ideas. Playing with colors – be it wall paints or upholstery are quick ways to transform any room. I also believe that strategically placing indoor plants (in shelves, at corners, window sills, etc.) can instantly lift the mood of the owners and interior space.

  2. We’ve just redone our bedroom and it’s like a completely new space it makes me so happy!
    Some great tips here!

  3. Oooh how timely this is, we’re moving in a couple of months and I can’t stop browsing Pinterest for ideas on how to decorate! I love the idea of giving rooms a bit of a makeover based on the seasons, that’s genius. I also really want a little tropical getaway home now haha. But you’re right about the practicalities, I’d 100% end up with a thousand fluffy blankets and then be absolutely boiling in summer!

  4. i love the idea of changing the decor based on season! Since working on doing my library, my other rooms have kind of sat on the back corner. lol

  5. Such a great idea, changing up your interior to match the season, I’ve never thought of it before! I definitely love the idea of a clean, bright room with splashes of blue or turquoise!

  6. Impressed to learn you have a garden office being built! Love the ideas and we always find that, cleaning up, creating space, adding a lick of paint and getting some lovely accessories in can brighten and update not only your room but your mood too. I am currently looking to spruce up my dressing room…and these are fantastic ideas. Not sure they’ll allow me to change the flooring though hehehhe!
    Thank you for sharing x

  7. Wait… do you change your flooring to suit seasons?! Haha, oh how I wish I could change some of our decor. Being in a rented place sucks sometimes. I’ve done what I can with accessories, etc… but I wish we could change our grey carpet 🙁

  8. I loved reading this! I’m one of those people that constantly want to redecorate and change my room around and for summer I’m definitely looking for those blue and airy feels. meg xx

  9. Redecorating is so exciting! I’m looking forward to doing this when we move – I get so bored of things staying the same so have to change them up once in a while! We did the living room recently (swapped the living and dining areas around completely) and it made such a difference.

  10. I really enjoyed this post. I love transforming rooms depending on the different seasons and summer is one of my favourites because it can be so simple yet bright. You’ve mentioned some really great tips.

  11. I love rooms that are light and neutral as i think it’s a sophisticated and relaxing colour scheme. My boyfriend has an all red bedroom and I hate it!

  12. I am so excited to finally be in the position to re-do my room. I have had the same room for 14 years and it is time for a change. I would love to have a white wood flooring with light blue walls – that whole beachy vibe seems dreams! I think realistically I will be going for a grey vibe, but these are all great tips! Colour scheme is everything!

  14. Only if this didn’t cost so much money haha. I’m planning in a whole bedroom makeover, but it will probably happen in 2021. These are great tips! Have a great summer ♡

  15. I’d love to be able to change my bedroom to match each season. My room mainly consists of white with hints of yellow at the moment. I would like to eventually add some forest greens and maybe add some autumn colours. I’m hoping it won’t look weird but I guess I’ll have to wait and see.
Being able to have a bright, airy summery bedroom sounds wonderful though and maybe it could be something I do eventually in my future home whenever I actually get one 😀

  16. I love the idea of being able to easily change up a room with each season, that would be so cool. I love the idea of pastel colours for summer so it’s fresh but not as far as white. I love the ideas you’ve got here – and I’d totally be the one to get distracted by fluffy blankets and forget it’s summer!

  17. I love looking through design themes for bedrooms or any room in the house, but as we have chosen to do up our bathroom, the bedroom will have to wait till next year.

  18. Brilliant advice here Jenny. Advice that has me super excited because as I type, our new carpets are being (noisily) laid which means we will soon be moving in to our new bedroom. I can’t tell you how much fun it has been planning and getting all the accessories right so that we have the perfect space.

I can’t wait to see your new office space when it is completed x

  19. Great tips, especially the one on flooring! It really makes such a huge difference. If I could, I would LOVE to change the flooring in my apartment from carpet to wood as my aesthetic is modern coastal, but it’s a rental so I can’t. When I own my own place I definitely will make sure it’s all wood, haha. x

  20. I’ve never thought about switching up my bedroom for a season, but I guess it makes sense to change some of the smaller details and features. I’m in the loft so changing things can be a little more tricky x

  21. I love the idea of a bedroom makeover! Last year I wallpapered a walk in my bedroom and it made a huge impact. Little bits at a time 🙂

  22. I have always liked the rooms where white predominates. My mother scolded me when she came to visit, she said she felt like she was in the hospital, with all the whites around. 😀

  23. I love the idea of light and airy with pops of color. I find then you can easily change the look of the room by changing the pops of color.

  24. I don’t tend to change my decor seasonally (I think my husband would go mad if I did, lol) but I do favour light, airy and clean bases and add pops of colour. So if I fancy a change I just swap some of the decorative items and soft furnishings like you’ve said. It really does make all the difference. Totally agree that it would be lovely to wake up in a coastal/beach vibe room. It would be like being on holiday. And a fan is definitely a good investment at this time of year!

  25. I love a good summer home revamp! I think having a light and airy bedroom is key and, I love having light curtains to help the sun shine through and wake me up for the day. My bedroom is all white with green accents and cream curtains with leaves all over. I love it.

    Thanks for sharing!

    1. You live on a narrow boat?! That’s amazing! my boyfriend’s Grandparents used to own a narrow boat when he was younger. We were actually talking just yesterday about doing a narrow boat holiday next year!

  26. These are some really good ideas – I never really mix my bedroom up and I should do more of it x

  27. Brilliant post! I’m currently renovating my house and first to be decorated will be the bedroom. I never thought of blue as a bedroom colour but I’m loving the idea! I will be referring back to this when I can do the fun bit of my house 😀thanks for sharing!

  28. So true about the flooring, our bedroom is solid wood flooring so most of the room as centered around that. I need to get some more bits to finish it off but we’re nearly there xx
