AD // I’ve become a huge fan of interior decor over the last couple of years, specifically since I designed my own home office. Interior decor designing is super fun and I love the amount of attention and detail that goes into it with finding the right pieces of furniture for the right rooms and decor to complement it.

Lighting can have such a big impact on the feel of a room. It can brighten it up and make it look more modern, it can dim it down to create the perfect cozy atmosphere and everything in between. But there’s a lot of things to consider when it comes to choosing the lighting for whatever room you’re decorating!

In this post, we’re going to look at 4 important things to consider when choosing lighting for your home:

Consider your furniture

If you’re going for a certain style of decor within your furniture then you’ll want to continue that into your lighting choices. Lighting should complement your choice of furniture and decor, not distract from it.

For rooms with darker furniture, bright ceiling lights will open up the space but for light furniture or a more minimalistic style of decor, wall lights are preferred as they can direct light to certain areas of the room or pieces of furniture that you want the focus on.

Think about the room you’re in

Different lighting will have it’s place in different types of rooms. For example, you’re probably not going to want an elaborate and low hanging chandelier in your bathroom. So considering the type of room that you’re in for the type of lighting you’re going to choose is a good place to start.

And whilst we’re thinking about bathrooms, the JCC V50 Tilt Fire-Rated LED Downlight is a great option for bathrooms. JCC are leading developers in LED technology and as you probably already know, LED lighting has a ton of benefits.

With the global need to reduce CO2 emissions, LED lighting is one of the easiest and most effective ways to do that. It helps the environment as well as saving you money on your energy bills.

This particular light option has an angled bracket for easy installation as well as driverless technology. If you have a particularly big house or bathroom and need multiple lights, then these are a great option as they can be placed periodically throughout the ceiling with relative ease.

Their simple and minimalistic design will also fit most bathroom styles and the spotlight feature can be really helpful, especially in bathrooms.

Take into account the amount of natural light in the room already

The size of your interior lighting should be taken into account along with the amount of natural light already in the room. Interior lighting needs to compensate for those rooms that are perhaps in basements or apartments, where lighting might be lacking.

Ceiling lights are great but for rooms with minimal natural lights, you’ll want to opt for table lamps and wall lights to make the room look cozier.

The room size

Obviously bigger rooms need more lighting but bigger rooms can often look a bit unwelcoming, so things like soft table lamps and wall lights again will make a big room feel more cozy and homely.

Smaller rooms or rooms will a lot of furniture will fit best with ceiling lights as they spread the light out more evenly and stop the room appearing small and cramp.

Are you decorating a room soon and do you know which lighting options you’re going to choose?
