It’s National Banana Day! I know right, I’m surprised too. Who knew there was an entire day dedicated to bananas? I certainly didn’t! But here we are, celebrating National Banana Day because I don’t know about you but I need more reasons to celebrate. I love bananas and anything banana flavoured, so I’m excited to share some amazing recipes with you today!
Here’s the catch. The recipes aren’t mine. Is this a bit of a cop out? Potentially. But I’d much rather share these amazing sounding recipes from people who actually know what they’re doing, than whip up something particularly gross just for the sake of National Banana Day that nobody would want to touch with a barge pole.
I’m not the best at baking. Cooking I’m alright with. I find it a great way to relax and unwind and I love throwing ingredients, flavours, herbs and spices together without much thought and just *seeing* what happens. But the precision in baking always throws me off. Which is weird, given that I’m an incredibly anal, type A Virgo. You’d think it would be the other way around.
Although I did make these Rocky Road cakes a little while ago which turned out okay but that’s probably because they were no-bake and required no cooking.
Long story short, I suck at baking. So instead, for National Banana Day, I’ve leant on some blogging friends who were happy for me to share their amazing recipes instead. So if you’re looking for some yummy banana recipes, keep on reading!
Banoffee Cupcakes
How amazing do these banoffee cupcakes look? This recipe from Donna Dundas is the perfect treat to make on a rainy afternoon and will definitely impress any guests! The thing I love about banana is that it often goes SO WELL with other ingredients, like the caramel icing on top of these cupcakes!
Choc Chip Banana Pancakes (Vegan, GF)
Something for Vegan or gluten free folks now, Glow Steady is your absolute go-to for those recipes, so I wanted to include this Choc Chip Banana Pancake recipe because it not only looks delicious but caters for lots of people. They look super fluffy and moist and you can top them with whatever you choose!
Digestive Support Smoothie
This recipe from Jenna at A Balanced Belly is perfect for digestive support. Bananas are great for the gut and contain a lot of prebiotics so for anyone that suffers with bloating or food intolerances, this one is for you! Bananas are obviously super yummy but can also aid in your digestion too.
Double Chocolate Banana Bread
We all love a good banana bread after lockdown 1.0, don’t we? So I had to include one in this post and this banana bread recipe from Ellie’s Little World is right up my street because it’s a DOUBLE CHOCOLATE banana bread. Banana and chocolate? There’s not many more perfect combinations.
Banana Cake Squares
Next up are these light, fluffy but ever so yummy Banana Cake Squares from Victoria Austin. This recipe literally couldn’t be easier! So if you’re looking to do some last minute baking – maybe for an event or occasion – then these would be a fantastic option. The perfect little bite to have with a cuppa.
Peanut Butter Banana Dog Treats
Okay yes, fine. I had to include something for all our doggo pals, didn’t it? Doggos love peanut butter! So what better fruit to pair it with than a banana to make these yummy peanut butter banana treats for them from Shed Happens. These treats only take 15 minutes to bake then you can give your doggo a well needed treat.
Classic Banana Pudding
A classic banana pudding is the absolute perfect dish to whip out for dessert after a dinner party. Your guests would be thrilled! This classic banana pudding recipe from Real Life of Lulu is super traditional and brings out all the nostalgic vibes. It also looks insanely yummy and I really want to try this one!

Plaid + Sugar has a great banana oatmeal cookie recipe for you to check out which not only is super duper easy to make but also the perfect recipe for any time you need a quick snack on the go. The ideal treat to grab on your way out the door to sustain you until lunchtime. These sound delicious!
Banana and Blueberry Muffins
You know what I was saying about how banana is a great ingredient to pair with other ingredients? Here’s another example! Banana and blueberry muffins from A Suffolk Mum is a really great and quick breakfast option with a coffee. I love blueberries, so paired with banana in these neat little muffins is the perfect combo!

Thank you, yes I didn’t realise there was a day like this until I researched x
Great ideas! I eat a banana every day and love the flavour in bread and sweet treats.
Yes me too! They’re such great and convenient snacks!
Yup, I’m dreadful at baking, lack the ability to concentrate and forget to add ingredients like self raising flour ha, ha, ha. However, I have managed a banana bread before xxxx
Haha oh dear! Baking is not my forte either x

Yesss it’s so versatile and can go in SO many different bakes!
Didn’t know … and I really don’t like bananas. They are too soft and sweet, nevertheless there is 2 ways I consume banana 1) peanut butter banana sandwich – generous amount of peanut butter on the slice of bread and banana slices on top. 2) peanut butter banana smoothie with chia seeds, I use unflavored yoghurt – 2 bananas, 2 spoons peanut butter and the rest goes by feel and mood. It looks weird, but tastes good 🙂 About baking – I am trying to take up time to try banana bread – so maybe today?
Todays a good a day as ever to try a banana bread!
I had no idea that National Banana Day was a thing before you told me. That being said, our crew of 3 pups are more than happy to celebrate… and with some of the other recipes on this list, I think my husband and I can get behind this celebration too!
Haha thank you for your recipe in this post!
