7 books to curl up with on a rainy day

I was taking part in a comment thread on Twitter the other day when I came across Bronia Jane’s blog. Now, ya’all criticise comment swaps (well, some people do – you specifically might not) as “fake interaction” but I may have never come across her blog had I not joined in and it’s quickly become one of my favourites. Not only is it super pretty but she posts fabulous content – right up my street as the type of blog I love reading with a bit of everything thrown in. I promise this isn’t a whole post of me gushing over (isn’t gushing an awful word?) her blog, I’m getting to my point, I just felt the need to grovel a little bit because I’m essentially pinching one of her post ideas. Although she said she didn’t mind so it’s all gravy, baby.

My thoughts on star book ratings

Ever since I started reviewing books in 2013, I’ve always used a 1-5 star rating of some description (although I did change my stars to cupcakes because I thought it was cuter but it follows the same system). Whether it be on my blog, Goodreads or Amazon I was always rating the books I had read between 1 and 5 stars. I thought everybody did that, I thought that was the “norm”. But since blogging more and more, I’ve seen various opinions from people who say the star rating isn’t for them, they don’t like it or they rate books in a different way. Some, not at all.

Quarterly Book Round-up (1/4)

2017 has been a fantastic year for books for me so far. I’ve not picked up a book which I’ve not finished nor have I awarded less than 3 stars to anything I’ve read! With so many others on my to-read list which sound absolutely amazing, 2017 is shaping up to be a pretty spectacular bookish year. So let’s go through the first quarter and take a look at what I’ve read, my favourites and what I’m hoping to read in the coming months!

Ask Jenny: Gaining Book Reviews

Earlier this month, I started a brand new series on my blog called ‘Ask Jenny’, whereby I try and offer some sound advice to anyone who needs it about a problem they might have. Like the agony aunt columns in Women’s magazines, basically. But hopefully better and less generic. My first post in this series got a great response and I was super chuffed about it and many people thought it was a good idea; so like a good little micro-influencer, I took their advice and have decided to continue the series – for a while at least. Until I or my readers get bored.

Happy Birthday Jenny in Neverland

Around this time 4 years ago, Jenny in Neverland was born. 4 flipping years ago. First of all, I can’t believe I’ve stuck at something for so long; I was notoriously known in school for picking up a hobby, being totally engrossed for a month then the novelty wore right off. Flute, piano, dancing, drama, art – you name it. But this isn’t school anymore and this isn’t just a hobby anymore and I had no idea 4 years ago that blogging would become such a huge, important and vital part of my daily life. But it has and although it’s not been completely smooth sailing and there’s been a fair few bumps in the road, I still love blogging now as much as ever. So I’m here celebrating my blog’s 4th birthday and I’d love for you to join me!

FAQ: Blog Tours

For those that know me, know that I run a small book touring business called Neverland Blog Tours. For those that didn’t know that, let me explain. In 2014, after a lot of research, I set up my own online business which would organise and run book tours for authors. I’ll get into more detail about what a book tour is exactly later on but since 2014, my little teeny weeny business has grew and grew and I’m honoured with how many authors put their trust in me now to organise these promotional services for them.

What I Read in July

I set myself a July reading target of 8 books. That might seem like absolutely squat to some of you crazy ass readers out there who get through like 15 books a week (seriously, how do you do it? Time-turners? Magic? Idk) but to me, that’s a hella lot. I’m a slow reader as it is and I tend to let my life and emotions get in the way of my reading a lot more than I should, considering books are there to help you escape from that very thing. But, I tried my best and managed to read a total of 3 books but currently have 2 on the go. I will be reviewing 1 or 2 of them in full but here’s a re-cap of July’s reading list!

What’s the Point of Book Reviews?

What a stupid question, I hear you all saying at the sight of this title. And I agree, it is a stupid question. That’s the whole point of this post to talk about what a stupid statement it really is and the relevance and importance of book reviews. A good year or so ago now, I saw a comment on Facebook I won’t forget and it took everything in me not to start a complete ruckus with this stupid person. The comment, left on another Facebook friends status was, “I don’t see the point of book reviews, they’re irrelevant“. I don’t see the point of book reviews. They are irrelevant. And the person who said this? An author.

25 Thoughts I’ve Had In My Time As a Book Blogger

Book bloggers… We’re a funny bunch aren’t we? Since I started book blogging, back in March 2013 I’ve experienced so many things I would have otherwise been oblivious to. Book blogging is a whole different world and I didn’t quite realise how much there was to it until I was in it.

Best Books I’ve Read in 2015 (So Far…)

Can you even comprehend that we’re in the middle of June already? This year is going by much quicker than I hoped it would but the good thing is, it’s been full to the brim of amazing books. I’ve read a total of 22 books this year so far and although compared to some that isn’t an awful lot (I admit, it isn’t!) most of them books have been 4 or 5 star-ers! So I’ve narrowed it down and below are my best books I’ve read this year so far. In no particular order! Continue reading
